What RPG Do You Most Want To Play In The New Generation?

Yeah, I know they haven't announced too many just yet. But are you still hoping to see the official announcement of a "must-have" role-playing game? From your perspective, anyway?

There was a time when I would've said Final Fantasy XV without hesitation, but as that doesn't seem to even qualify as a true RPG, I'll have to look elsewhere. The next Elder Scrolls should be pretty insane, so you can't discount that one, and I keep wondering if we'll ever see the resurrection of an old-school series like Legend of Dragoon or the Chrono IP.

If that doesn't happen, though, I might have to go with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for now. It's either that or Dragon Age: Inquisition, because I'm convinced BioWare will give the fans exactly what they desire; every new piece of information I've heard concerning Inquisition has been awfully encouraging. Big open world, more customization and depth; yep, sounds more like an RPG. As for Wild Hunt, I remember doing the preview for it and being totally blown away by the size and scope of this project. I mean, we're talking revolutionary in terms of ambition, I think.

Can't forget about Kingdom Hearts III, either.  That could end up being the "funnest" RPG strictly from a universally appealing standpoint. So, what RPG(s) sit atop your list?

Fallout 4 hands-down. I'm going to spend every off hour inside that game until it's all finished. 300-400 hours of Fallout? No problem for me, just let me wander the wastes again.

And then Two Worlds III :)

It was a complete mess in almost every way, and yet I loved it to pieces. You can't get that kind of magic system or customization or do-it-yourself fun anywhere else. Not even Skyrim. And the pirates expansion was good times.

Have you tried playing with the engine cheats? It's insanity.

In order,

- FF XV (It'll be a RPG Ben, action one, but RPG nonetheless)
- KH3
- Fallout 4
- Witcher 3

Although If remasters of decade old games count as new gen, the FFX and X-2 remakes go on top of that list, and if they release a new Legend of Dragoon that goes up there too.

Do people really see a KH style game (including KH, obviously) as RPG's?

I don't really think they are even close to qualifying given the fact that the RPG elements present are in practically every game now.

What I would love to see is a FF7 remake. Realistically, I would like to see a proper Valkyria Chronicles sequel on a home console not on a portable.

But if the Vita TV comes stateside I would play Valkyria Chronicles 2 on it.

Call it whatever genre you want but seeing that I enjoyed Mass Effect far more than any other branded RPG this gen I suppose I could vote for Mass Effect next-gen. With less mission breaking bugs please. I literally had to use a PC tool to hack my ME3 save file to fix a known bug. This bug exists across all versions of the game, console or not. Thankfully the PC version can be fixed.

I'm looking forward to a handful of RPGs in the new generation. Such as Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 4, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. I'm also lukewarm when it comes to Dragon age 3 and the next Mass Effect as I have soured on Bioware allot after the disappointments of DA2 and the latter parts of ME3.

I think it might stem from the fact that Final Fantasy franchise is the only rpg franchise that abandoned its original formula. You name it. Every other rpg series has kept what has worked for it in the past except for Final Fantasy .

Nier 2.

The first one was criminally undersold by Square Enix. If they invested a decent amount of resources into a sequel that would be brilliant.

Would need the same composer and singer. The soundtrack was outstanding.

I'd be all for it, Nier is easily in my top 10 this gen. Though I hope they come up with a better structure of side quests as they were dull as dishwater in Nier. But the game itself was amazing, easily one of the most engaging stories in gaming requiring multiple playthrough and arguably the best soundtrack this gen.

who do they think they are, $E!?
fallout 4 a close second, absolutely love 3 so im really excited to see where 4 will go.
just one request, no more BROWN!
ok its a post apocalyptic world, but that does not mean atom bombs destroy the colour range!
i would say ME4, but after the epic disappointment of 3, and how botched and buggy it is, bioware are dead to me!

There's just so much good stuff coming up in the RPG horizon. I don't think we've ever had THIS many titles on the rooster before?

Known/confirmed:
My top pick would have to be either Cyberpunk 2077 for the sheer potential, or Dragon Age Inquisition because of what we do know. I think right now I'm most excited for Dragon Age simply cause it's first up and all we know so far is extremely promising.
And it's BioWare. I love them so much despite their missteps in the past.

No info yet but we just know it will happen:
- The new Mass Effect series
- But above all: FALLOUT 4!!!!!!!!!oneoneone *faint*

Well Final Fantasy XIII was a disappointment for me. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the game. But just not as a Final Fantasy game.

If they do a new Final Fantasy game, but as a real Final Fantasy game, I will buy it from day 1.

But other than that, Elders Scrolls, Thief and Fallout are the RPGs are definitely on my list, and in that order.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure if Thief is qualifies as an RPG. But at least I think it does.

Xenoblade 2 for the Wii-U, Xenoblade Chronicles delivered absolutely everything I yearned for in a JRPG from an engaging story to a huge unique world to explore. It was my favourite game from the PS3/Wii/360 gen and I have huge expectations for the next one, the few teasers shown already show really promise.

Then there is Final fantasy XV, I just can't help it... The trailers were impressive and I do want to play it. Action RPGs don't bother me I enjoy games like Kingdom Hearts and Nier, it seems a lot more polished than Lightning Returns - which quite frankly doesn't know what it wants to be much like Resident Evil 6, as an action game it is weak and as an RPG it is weak also.

Despite not getting along with Ni No Kuni, I am still interested to see what Level-5 will cook up next gen, along with Atlus but most of all Mistwalker. They gave 360 Lost Odyssey, then the Wii The Last Story, could the PS4 finally get noticed this time, if it is the Wii-U I will be happy to, but devastated if it's an Xbox exclusive, Lost Odyssey had no place on the 360 :(

Cyberpunk 2077. Jumping into The Witcher at the third entry doesn't appeal to me. I'm a little worried that Lords of the Fallen won't live up to its promise. KH3 is too far away and I'm perfectly willing to wait on FFXV/Versus because Nomura's made me wait this damn long. Kingdom Come could be good. I can't get excited by DA: Inquisition for some reason... Pretty much everything else that is properly announced is either online or indie.

But there are the unofficial ones: Level-5's next, ME4, Fallout 4, TESVI: Elsweyr. The one that would most excite me is Valkyria Chronicles 4 but I don't think that's happening ever... I'll stick with Cyberpunk, even though it doesn't really have my attention as yet.

Now that most RPGs have merged into "action games" I can't think of any on consoles I'd want to see on my PS4 that would really come. I think the only one might be Eye Of The beholder or a true D&D game. I was raised on RPGs having parties, not just one guy/girl who can do everything in the world. Don't like 'em, won't buy 'em (tho I did give in to Skyrim which is still an incredible game). For real RPGs I'll stick with Nintendo (Fire Emblem pretty much beats every RPG I've ever played on a Playstation).
Who knows? Maybe SSI will make a return to the industry and reinvent their classics...sigh, a man can dream, right?

Elder Scrolls definitely. I played Skyrim for 200 hours on PS3 and platinumed it, and I basically built a gaming PC just to play it and now I've got over 400 hours into it on that platform. I'll get the next one day 1, bugs and all lol.

Fallout 4 should be pretty excellent too. Another day 1 purchase for me. I just hope it's not brown again.

I've got the Witcher 2 but haven't got around to playing it yet. I really should make time for it but I've just got too darned much other stuff to play. Everything I've seen so far about Witcher 3 sounds fantastic though.

I hope the next Dragon Age turns out to be good. I kind of have my doubts with EA demanding everything be an online multiplayer focused pile of (probably broken) junk aimed squarely and exclusively at 14 year old's. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Then there's the next Mass Effect, I've only played the second one so far but I loved it. And the next Final Fantasy. Hopefully they'll come up with a much better gameplay mechanic this time and make it much more open world.

I finished the Legend edition of Skyrim a while back which was good.

I think a new Fallout would be greatly received by me. I was hesitant in buying the Fallout 3 GOTY when it came out hearing about the bugs, but picked it up and had a hard time putting it down. It was fun. Again could be a bit repetitive, but exploring a post apocalyptic world using a rifle to a laser gun was... fun. A few shivers up the spine on occasion.

Granted, I do not have a PS4 so might be a longer wait for me. :/

Keep playing!

Right now persona 5, I adore both p3 and p4.

Next to that interestingly is Inquisition, I trust bioware to bring the best of both worlds from origins and 2. Wild hunt comes last only because while its looks good I have no direct prior experience with 1&2.

fallout 4 hasn't released anything tangible just yet to be bouncing off the walls but fallout 3 is by far the game in my ps3 collection that I have put the most hours into.

I gotta admit... I'm a huge Kingdom Heart's guy. I've followed the incredibly convoluted story despite my sick gut reaction to it always being an exclusive title... to different consoles. lol

Nevertheless, I love the story and am really looking forward to the third.

HOWEVER.... It is completely brand new news to me that it is an RPG. Any RPG elements present exist in basically every non-FPS game out there. Can we now call most games RPG's now?

As for me, I don't have a vote (considering I can't really agree with KH being an RPG). None of the other titles announced interest me, and I have a hard time imagining who is going to step up to the table in a way I'd enjoy. I'd like to say FFXV, but I'm not convinced it won't be an Action/Adventure, yet.

I think maybe as the RPG genre has changed over the last generation, I'm perhaps becoming less of an RPG fan. Give me something from Naughty Dog. And action or TPS type game with interesting characters is what I want. Don't care about the genre it will be.

More likely Fallout 4. I would say Witcher 3 if the other 2 were on PS3/PS4 with save continuation I would get the series on PC but even with my gaming laptop I could barely hit MED graphics on the Witcher 2 let alone 3. =S
