Here's What A Next-Gen Medieval RPG Will Look Like...Wow
As time passes, we'll get more glimpses of what the next generation has in store.
The latest comes courtesy of former Mafia developer Daniel Vavra, who has uploaded some footage of a new medieval next-gen RPG to YouTube. The game is in development at the Czech-based team Warhorse Studios and is slated to arrive in 2014 or 2015. Yes, it's a ways off, but still worth a look.
Vavra added on Twitter that what we're seeing is running on an old notebook with an Nvidia 555M graphics card, so imagine what it might look like with next-gen hardware... This game is being built using a modified version of the amazing CryEngine 3 (which you'll see on display in the upcoming Crysis 3, set to release on February 19, 2013), and it's only a brief sample, but the possibilities are clearly through the roof. That much is obvious.
You know, this is pretty insane for older gamers. There was a time when we all were amazed and blown away by Super Mario Bros. because we had only been used to Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, etc.

I'd rather they push farther, granted it was on a laptop and early games are never as good as ones released later in the generation, I'm just hoping for more of a leap forward than a step forward. Especially since you know it won't be cheap.

I think it is critical to remember that we talk about a game that is planned two-three YEARS into the future. So this "demo" is merely a realtime camera movement through a modelled area from a laptop - it even looks to be from within the designer tool itself.
So it has to be considered from that perspective. And it's all in the details. The muddy waters *looks* dirty, how plants and trees are softly swaying in the wind, the shadows, the details in the woodwork, how there seem to be no repetitive textures or pixelated surfaces. Ad a fat layer of polish, audio and life to this environment, and we're talking.

seriously!?
hot dam, if there doing that with a 555 than scrap that sh*t, and show us what a freaking 690 can do!
im starting to think all the hot air crytek have been blowing at epic about the UE4, was not actually hot air.
its looking pretty impressive what the engine can do, and yes looks almost as good as epics tech demos!
better yet its available NOW!
one thing i love about crytek, they are always ahead of the ball.
wish they would expand their studios and start going into multi game development, lets see something different a new IP along with crysis.
too good a franchise to end!
makes me a sad panda that they keep saying C3 will be their last paid to play game, everything from now on will be F2P.
well heres to warface falling flat on its face, and changing their whole world domination plan!

It looks like a Skyrim town to me with higher detail.
Make it feel alive!
