Microsoft: The Online Hate That Infects Gaming Should Go Away
With the recently revealed sales numbers (and further scrutiny concerning the lack of exact PS4 stats for the US), the fanboy wars are on.
However, one major Microsoft player says this kind of petty nonsense "infects gaming" and really should disappear. Speaking on Reddit, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb argued that we should be focusing on the industry's long-awaited upswing rather than who's "winning."
"Both new platforms are off to a great start. We all should be celebrating a healthy, vibrant industry. Sony has done a good job and they should be commended. The hate that infects gaming in the online space needs to go away. Sony will sell a ton. We will sell a ton. The industry is doing well...and consumers have choice."
First and foremost, of course he's right. I've been saying the same thing for years. The inanity and uselessness of sales battles and who's winning what is utterly pointless. It adds nothing to the enjoyment or entertainment factor and last I checked, this was supposed to be a fun hobby. Therefore, Major Nelson makes a valid point and one that, in my estimation, should be repeated over and over.
That being said, is anyone else sensing a little downplaying going on? I mean, would this guy have said the same thing if the global sales numbers (4.2 million for PS4, 3 million for Xbox One) were reversed? Yeah, I'm not so sure...I smell a major PR spin from "Major Nelson."
