No Plans For Bringing Dark Souls II To Next-Gen Systems

When an anticipated title comes out at the end of a console generation, the fans almost always ask: "Gonna put it on the new systems?"

Well, unfortunately for Dark Souls followers, the developer's answer - at least for the time being - is "no." Edge asked Dark Souls II co-director Yui Tanimura if the team had given any thought to bringing the upcoming sequel to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

"We have not put any thought into this yet, so I unfortunately can’t answer at this point."

This begged the question- How come From Software didn't make DSII for next-gen consoles in the first place? Tanimura explained that they wanted to capture the full potential of the previous machines (PS3 and Xbox 360), and they also wanted to give fans the sequel "as soon as possible." Dark Souls II is scheduled to arrive on March 11, 2014 in North America and three days later in Europe.

This doesn't mean DSII on the PS4 and Xbox One won't ever happen, but it certainly seems unlikely for now.

Once again, soon as the sales slow down they'll announce the next gen version. Did anyone really think the new Tomb Raider is being upgraded just because the new systems or here, or because the sales were completely dried up? I'll probably end up buying it again though if the game stays as it should.

Hope it doesn't. Would much prefer to see From move onto an entirely new version of Souls after II.

Agreed. I want to see what they cook up next.

I'm quite interested to see what the original director of the game miyazaki comes up with.

His next game is supposed to be hard, but more colourful in tone and colour.

As far as I am concerned, this is a non issue. I am still happy with my PS3 and it's performance. That being said, it sure does feel strange to go back to the DS3 controller after playing on the DS4. I really didn't realize how close my hands were together on the DS3.
