The Witcher 3 Will Have Intrigue Around Almost Every Corner

Typically, the stories in any huge open-world game aren't exactly memorable.

But The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt RED swears that we'll find "stories around every corner" and additionally, it'll be 20% bigger than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. During an OPM preview, gameplay designer Maciej Szczesnik spoke about the game's incredible depth and sense of immersion:

"We fill each region with stories that are just around every corner. Itís something very characteristic to Slavic mythology that partially inspires the game. In Slavic mythos, you donít need to venture to far away lands to experience adventures Ė something really amazing can live in a nearby forest or hide deep in the cave you pass by when you travel. We populate the world with adventure and this glues everything together."

This hugely ambitious project is scheduled to launch later this year, but we don't have an exact date yet. Given the sheer size and scope of the project, we wouldn't be surprised if the team needed more time. What they're planning to present is downright mind-boggling, and I'm all the more interested in the mythology and narrative, both of which could be very, very interesting. At this point, it's no surprise to me that CD Projekt RED needed the power of the next-gen systems, 'cuz this game is massive.

Exploration coupled with lots really intriguing plots, storylines and character development. Sounds good to me.

I cannot wait for this game. Been looking for a nice long solo adventure of this kind.

If it's 20% larger than Skyrim, I'm even more excited. That's a tribute to the new generation I believe, because I think Skyrim was pushing the limits of how big of a game the PS3 and 360 could run. Shaping up to be an exciting game.

That leaves me even more excited for the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout game. I love an open, big, and fulfilling world.

Looking forward to this, I sure hope it lives up to what they've been saying about it, because that would be downright amazing.

This'd be my most anticipated game this year. The Order and inFamous are up there, as will be Uncharted if it launches in 2014 (not my expectation), but Witcher 3 is on top - these guys know how to make good games :).

Hope it's to my taste, I like big but without the same freedom of choice I'm still not sure how it will work out.

That's my reservation also. It might be 20% bigger but without freedom that might not matter.

I hope my love for the Witcher 2 doesn't over hype me for this game. I'm so excited for this game I just hope they can deliver.

I have no reason not to trust them, these guys get it done, and support their games for a long time post launch.

yea thats pretty par for the course, CD are one of the very few developers who actually always make really good stories!
i just hope the combats allot more complex and in depth though, witchers combats pretty much like skyrim, ie so simple and basic a retarded donkey could master it!
id do ANYTHING to see a amazing world like this mixed with the amazing varied complex combat system from kingdoms.
not only the combat system but even the vast majority of weapons too, there were weapons in that i havent seen in years!
adventure games are not all about axes, swords, and magic, there are other weapons out there!

There is one single thing that worries me about this: A world can become *too* filled.

Partially because I just can't leave a quest be unresolved so I will go bonkers, but mainly because one element of a "realistic" world is that there are stretches where *nothing* of interest or significance is found, and most people you meet are just plain uninteresting individuals that have no reason or motivation to communicate with you.

This is what makes roleplaying in GTA so fun (yes, yes I do roleplay in those games. Call me geek all you like). GTA offer a world where everyone carries on with their life and not care one bit about you unless you hassle them.

If they are real clever they will also have (unrelated/unchained) stories that you will see evolve *without* you being engaged directly into it.
If they are able to create a world where not everything that happens rest on your shoulders, well *then* we talk about taking open-world gaming to the next level.

20% bigger than skyrim? I don't think so.
