The Witcher 3 On PS3, 360? Impossible, Says Developer

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most ambitious titles of the new generation. So crazy ambitious, in fact, that it couldn't possibly work on the current video game systems.

That's what CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski told MCV India in a recent interview. In regards to the idea of the massive new RPG on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, he said:

"It’s impossible. It would have to be a different game--a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is slated for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, so you had best have a new console (or a worthy PC) when this bad boy launches. Furthermore, don't expect to see The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on the PS3 any time soon, either. Said Iwinski:

"We definitely would have loved to, but The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year. The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half."

These things take a while, obviously. But did you notice that he said the PS3 was less powerful than the Xbox 360? That isn't really true, is it? As for the PS4/Xbox One versions of the anticipated RPG, Iwinski said they'll be similar to the PC version because in truth, the new consoles are "actually brand new PCs," anyway.

Whatever. I just wanna see it.

The Xbox 360 was not a more powerful system than the PS3. Idiots.

He may have been referring the GPUs.

I never owned a 360 but I'm sure it had it's strengths and with it being easier to port games to than the infamously complicated PS3, I'm going to say that's what he was referring to. Or maybe not, I don't know. But there definitely where games that were cross platform during the last gen that played better on the 360, so it did get something right.

But hey...Sony Rox Blahhhh!!!!

I wasn't bein fanboyish there, just saying that's an ignorant thing for a high profile developer to say due to the factual inaccuracy.

A bit better GPUs and a radically more flexible memory handling. That might be what he refers to, and if so then he's right.

oversensitive much?
beams right, the higher powered GPU made the 360 the more powerful machine.
we never really saw that though because all the xbox exclusives were running on really old engines, hell halo was running on a heavily modified engine designed for the first xbox!
it never had the luxury of custom engines that the ps3 did.

No I'm not oversensitive, believe it or not I can type responses while remaining relaxed.

And no the GPU doesn't make it higher power, it makes the GPU better. You have to ignore the entire cell to make that claim.

nor does the cell / CPU.
and the CPU on the 360 was very similar performance wise with the cell, and it was allot more user friendly so you could use more of it more of the time.

I own the first Witcher game on Steam but never played past the first couple of missions. What I did play though was so badass that I can't wait for this new game and that it's not being built to accommodate the last gen consoles is just so much more appealing to me.

This game sounds more exciting the more I hear about it. If Skyrim was gargantuan little rascal, I can't even imagine how this one will be.

He should have been a little more specific in regards to the 360 being more powerful than the PS3.

I want to hear more developers say ”We cannot make this game the way we want on the last gen hardware”.

I'm right with you, this is precisely what I want to hear of games on more advanced hardware.
