Sources: PS4 Will Win, "And Not By Some Small Trivial Margin"

The Xbox One is behind and apparently, inside sources believe it'll remain behind.

Industry insider Ashan Rasheed, better known to Internet surfers as "thuway," has heard some predictions come "down the grapevine," and they're pretty blunt. As he said on Twitter, his sources say the PlayStation 4 will remain ahead throughout the entire generation. And it won't even be that close:

"Xbox One will be behind all generation, and not by some small trivial margin. It will be enough to show up distinctly in exclusives."

Furthermore, he added-

"The PS4 has more left in the tank that will start showing up going forward. It was designed with more forward thinking hardware choices."

During the past week, we've heard plenty of positive news concerning the performance of PS4 software as opposed to Xbox One software. In regards to multiplatform efforts, it seems many PS4 iterations are pushing better max frame rates and in some cases, even better max resolution. Titles included in the discussion have been Watch Dogs, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and last year's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Do you think it'll be close, or do you think the PS4 will dominate as Rasheed's anonymous sources claim?

Not too long ago, people were saying the same thing about the PS3. I think it will be a closer battler in North America, but the PS4 will probably lead everywhere's else..

Oh yeah, I still remember the hate the PS3 got back then. Here are some headlines dating from 2006 all the way to 2009:

"PS3 failed in 2007 - A look at what went wrong with Sony"

"Why the PS3 will bankrupt Sony"

"Nolan Bushnell criticizes PS3 (claims it will fail)"

"Valve: 'PS3 a total disaster on so many levels'"

Ben will probably remember all too well the hate that was prevalent in those days toward Sony and the PS3.

I'm glad that I wasn't on the webs at that time. It's a headache at times knowing more than you should. I'd rather be ignorant and not know why [game] didn't turn out 'this way'. I'd be enjoying my games a lot more if it wasn't for gaming journalism.

Kind of a different situation since PS3 architecture was a pain to develop for and Devs had a hard time tapping into that power but as time progressed the PS3 came out on top. Now, Xbox One is falling massively behind with the weaker hardware and no complicated architecture holding it back like the PS3 did. Ps4 is more powerful and it definitely shows with FPS and Resolution being higher. Also, why isn't Microsoft talking about the power of the "CLOUD" lol They praised it at first but now say Graphics and FPs don't matter lol

Xbox One is toast. This isn't like the last generation, Xbox One doesn't have a bunch of hidden power. It's weak and overly expensive. It will be left in the dust within a year.

I really don't like hating on any gaming console's, but I'm glad this is happening. I feel that the industry will be better if the PS4 is the most popular machine by a wide margin. Best example being how great the PS2 days were. Will we see a drop in fanboy hate if one console is clearly the winner? Probably. Sounds good to me.

Xbox one is just done....not even hating on it just being real...all the multiplat games that are out for it have proven to run at a lower frames per second and resolution than the ps4...to me the specs it runs its multiplat games are last gen..720p?upscaled to 1080??30fps??thats cod on last gen..ps4 is native 1080p w 60fps mostly...its doesnt even let you watch netflix without a xbox live membership..sony is different they would make you be a ps plus member to acess netflix...

I thought the source was talking about performance, not sales. I don't see the xbox one losing sales, as currently it has a unique value proposition for the living room. Until other people enter that space it will capture a specific audience beyond gamers that the PS4 can't and probably wont in its lifetime.

As far as performance goes, I'm sure some developers will learn to use the xbox well. The real question is how bothered are they. I can see Microsoft developing tools to make development easier for the xbox one and helping 3rd party developers get the hang of it much like Sony did with the PS3 last generation.

Predictions are all good and well, but its just the beginning of the generation, we don't know what cards either side have in their hands.

Smart TVs can also do what the Xbone does.

And he was talking about sales. Exclusives only come about beacuse someone is a sales leader, or due to loyalty. But loyalty is all but gone in this industry, e.g. Kojima developing for Xbone.

@Orvisman I have a smart TV. It doesn't do what the xbox one does. I know Tivo and comcast are preparing competitors in that space with a hdmi in and out complete with voice command, but no one else is really there yet.

People who are excited about tech but not necessarily gaming are bound to be drawn to the xbox one, just because they think its cool. I also reread Ben's article, and the went to the twitter account, he was definitely taking about performance not sales.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think for one second the Xbox One is going to catch up to the PS4 in terms of performance, I do however, think it will sell similarly to the PS4 until further notice.

I also am not saying that the PS4 doesn't have a unique value proposition. I'm saying it does but that appeals to our core gamer market more than pure tech enthusiasts.

The XboxOne is clearly portrayed as a Media terminal that plays great Games while the perception of the PS4 is that it is primarily a Video Game system that can also do more. Otherwise the real difference is in the components. The Xbox has some features that cater to a more casual audience, which is exactly what MS intended But I believe that said features can always be implemented later on the PS4. Both play games, one will do it better than the other. (unless the power of the "CLOUD" will magically enhance the Xs having capabilities) ;). So Sonys decision to come on as a strong Video Game system is paying off. It is only the beginning so things can change but nothing is going to change the fact that one system is better specified than the other.

It all boils down to the time the decisions were made regarding how both companies were going to enter this generation. I said it before, may have actually been my first comment on PSX, MS has awoken the sleeping dragon which is Sony. They are preparing to breathe fire onto the industry. They must. It is what they wanted to do with the PS3 but that was almost a fiasco. Maybe I was few years early. Lol...

I appreciate your digging into the twitter to verify the info. It compelled me do the same so now I am monitoring thuway for some inside info if and when it breaks from a closer source. Twitter is very useful that way.

Isn't there a smart TV that uses motion controls and voice input to control the TV. I swear I saw a commercial for it. From Samsung maybe?

Anyway, I also have an Xbox One. I don't care about its media capablities. I have not hooked it up to my DVR. Heck, it cannot control my DVR playback. I got it for the exclusives. Xbox One = exclusives; PS4 = exclusives and multiplats. The same 360/PS3 combo I had last gen.

If he WAS talking performance, then I think his assertions are off. No one does THIRD-PARTY exclusives anymore, and they sure as hell don't do them based on technical performance. The only way to get an exlusive is to be the clear market leader or pay for it like M$ft does.

Xboxone has no chance at all:
Now-they are released the same time,
-hardware IS better/stronger on the ps4
-multiplat games are better on the ps4
-ps4 is 100 cheaper than xboxone

and ps4 did beat xboxone in the uk and has even got the lead in the usa[the rest was already ps territory]

Don't forget the ps3 sold better than the xbox360 allready worldwide:1 year behind and now in the lead or at least equal

There is a point in saying that nobody really knows what'll happen in the future (and any definitive statements about it, moreso such 'predictions', should indeed be taken with a grain of salt). But, back then, things were a bit different.

The PS3s architecture was radically different when it launched almost a year later than its competitors, which may already have had several engines and tools developed specifically for it (A sample result of this would be that it enabled the 360 to have a much more wider acceptance rate from a lot of studios. More studios making games for the system = more games people to choose from = lots more potential for sales). During that time, the PS3 wasn't even considered a 'weaker' machine than the 360. In fact, several exclusives have already proven that with time and focus, the PS3 is not one bit less powerful than its rival.

Come today. Come the era of the PS4 and Xbox One, could you really say it's the same scenario? :)

This is why these 'morons', as you'd like to refer to them (xD,) probably do have a slight edge and a bit of 'actual' basis for making wild predictions.

You can't have "sources" that know the future of sales. It's an utterly ridiculous concept. He was clearly talking about the edge the PlayStation 4 has in performance. And again, "sources" unnecessary as anyone with a calculator and a basic understanding of computer architecture can tell you the PS4 is a more capable machine.

I think I might be misinterpreting your comment Orvisman. Are you saying only better selling systems have the most exclusives released for it? Or that only the best selling systems get the best exclusives?

In either case, I disagree since the PS3 had the greatest number of AAA and 9+ scoring exclusives despite spending most of the generation in 3rd place.

Since there's no huge 'development learning curve' for one system over the other this time around, it doesn't make sense to compare PS3's rocky start to any questionable rocky start for Xbox One. Gaming-wise, it's hard to say the PS4 can't do anything the Xbox One can (minus silly Kinect-specific stuff), but Sony seemed to have kinda dropped the ball on media capabilities, so it depends on what all features each system eventually provides and what consumers are looking for. As others have said, Sony will likely win the worldwide market, but the US market could be a different story...probably not as favorable to Xbox One as the 360 was, but an even race MIGHT be the best Sony could hope for.

I still don't understand how the 360 did so well after gaining the title of least reliable consumer electronics ever made. If I bought a TV that kept overheating and had to replace it every three months, warranty or not, you better believe I would never touch that brand ever again.

Hell, I already have that resolution with LG phones thanks to the last one I had. And that feeling has bled into their TVs. Never again LG. Never again.

It's not that simple. When you buy a different TV all of your stuff still works with it, consoles aren't like that. If you bought a 360 and it failed during the warranty period you'd get a new one for free vs. switching to another console which would cost hundreds. And if it broke out of warranty then switching brands would result in the loss of hundreds of dollars worth of games and accessories that don't work on the other console. You could maybe recoup some cost by selling discs and controllers but any digital investment would be right down the drain. And if you were at all attached to your account's stats and history (achievements and whatever else) then that all disappears too. That's why "ecosystem" has become such a buzz word the last few years. People get locked into a choice based heavily on legacy reasons.

Can you imagine if for Multiplats, Sony would give the matching trophies away? That would help make an easier transition if you are at all attached.

Or what if all you lost were the exclusives?

That might help a tad. But The stats and achievements part of that problem is the least important piece of that very tricky puzzle. And even that is more complicated then you might think. Sony would have no way of verifying that the Xbox account you say you want to recover your achievements from is actually yours. (Nothing to stop someone from finding the achievement leader in the world and saying "that's me!".)

PS4 can win but for different reasons the first is the hardcore fans, second the price and third it is designed for gaming (I mean the technology) and it's not just a high end PC like Xbox ONE that can easily be compared to steam machines!
