Sources: The Last Of Us 2 "In Production," Set For 2015

Undoubtedly, Naughty Dog is currently focusing on Uncharted 4.

But given the popularity and critical acclaim their new IP, The Last Of Us, enjoyed last year, it's likely the studio will return to that universe. We just don't know when.

Well, we don't but it seems a very big Brazilian website knows some industry insiders who do know: The site Omelete claims that their sources say The Last Of Us 2 is already in production and it'll release in 2015. There are several problems with this- firstly, the term "in production" can be subjective, especially when viewed by those outside the industry. Secondly, Naughty Dog has been iffy about the idea of a direct sequel. If they do another entry, it might not be called "The Last Of Us 2."

However, it's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility. If Uncharted 4 comes out this holiday season, it stands to reason that Sony would want another top-tier exclusive for the 2015 season. And who would I turn to for that? Yep, Naughty Dog.

You buyin' or sellin'?

If they do, they should leave Joel and Ellie where they are, and show us a new set of survivors.
I think a sequel set in other countries would be cool, like England, Spain, or some Slavic nation.

It'd be hard for the game NOT to get a sequel after such a strong showing for a new IP. Devs and publishers do need to make money and a successful new franchise is actually a rare thing.

That said I doubt anything official is being kicked around yet. In any case I won't be returning to that world, it felt like wearing underwear 3 sizes too small.

what the heck are u talk'n about?
maybe I'm a little slow but, I'm guessing you're saying the game felt to restrictive or scripted for you? from what you really wanted to do?

The stealth was too restrictive, and if you stepped out of line they spawned a ton of enemies that always knew exactly where I was on their arrival. Thus the tight feeling of the underpants :P

Break line of sight then throw a bottle or a brick in the other dicrection to make em all turn around, then snap necks untill there's no more snapping to be had.

Even when I broke line of sight they had a sixth sense when a brother would slip around the room behind cover. They just gravitate toward ya.

The could call it "The Second Last of Us".

Would prefer ND did something new, but I'd also be very happy with another TLoU, and am confident ND will do something good with it.

Hopefully some of the mechanics are fixed up a little bit. So many times did Ellie walk infront of the baddies and they completely ignore her, but the minute I do something everything knows where I am right away.

This IS naughty dog, and after platting Uncharted 1 and moving into uncharted 2, there is a league of improvements. I keep my expectations high for ND because its damn near impossible for them to disappoint.

The Ellie thing was a conscious decision on the part of ND. They didn't want players feeling cheated by having enemies alerted to their presence by the actions of her AI. Pretty weird, but it makes some kind of sense.

I think I'd prefer another new IP from ND before jumping back into the TLoU universe, but I could handle this. My only concern is the timeframe. I'd rather see it pushed out by another half-year at least. Partly to give more time between Uncharted 4 and it, and partly because I'd like to see the same amount of time given to a sequel as to the original so that we can expect a similar level of quality, along with new mechanics and new ideas.

no way in hell is TLoU 2 releasing next year!
hell ill be surprised if uncharted is released this year!
dont forget the original uncharted was suppose to be a launch title but ND ran into so many problems creating their engine it had to be delayed almost a full year!
i cant see ND getting the coexisting engine into place working well on the ps4, and creating two whole new games, all in time for the systems 2nd anniversary, no matter how many teams they have going!

Really can't see it... I'm not expecting Uncharted 4 this year either, I can't imagine Uncharted and The Last of Us 2 being a year from one another... just don't see it.

Then there is the question, do we want a a Last of Us 2 ... There is potential and the concept of an older Ellie for the lead does interest me... but it just seem too soon to talk about such things.

As much as I loved TLoU, I don't think a sequel would be a good idea, at least not yet. Maybe a spiritual successor in the next few years? The good thing is this franchise will never get annualized and feel old.

Whatever happened to "I really liked the studio's last game and I can't wait to see what they do next." Now that's all gone and replaced with "I really liked the studio's last game so I hope they keep making the same game over and over."

Sigh.

Loved the Last of Us and that universe begs for more stories to be told. I hope they go in a very different direction -- perhaps it stars Ellie this time? Or better yet, have a totally different group of characters with totally different goals. I love BTNwarrior's idea -- you play the guy who's on the trail of Joel! What if you had to play someone who's out to kill him and get Ellie back? Man, that would be incredible.
