PS4 Update 1.60 Arrives Today, Supports Pulse Headsets

When the PlayStation 4 launched, it unfortunately wasn't compatible with most headsets.

Sony did promise that a future system update would allow more headsets to be used with the new console, and that update has arrived:

Sony has announced that system software update 1.60 arrives today, and it adds support for 7.1 surround sound headsets like the Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition. The update goes live later tonight.

Furthermore, Sony has revealed an all-new wireless headset. It's called simply the Gold Wireless Headset and it will hit store shelves "early this month" with a reasonable price tag of $100. The unit boasts 7.1 surround sound, custom audio modes created by developers, a noise-cancelling microphone for voice chat, and customizable faceplates. It's compatible with the PS4, PS3 and PC and provides you with 8 hours of use via wireless adapter. The versatile headset even works with the Vita and other mobile devices!

It's time to enjoy better audio when playing your PS4. That'll complete the experience, yes?

I paid 150 for my official ps3 headset a year ago. I think I should be able to use this for my ps4. Screw you Sony!!

Isn't that what this news is about? The fact that you can now?

Yes, UnderDog is right. The original, official Sony wireless, usb-enabled headset was rebranded as the "Pulse" headset. So, the update does include support for all three (original, pulse, and pulse elite).

I received my PS4 thursday night and I was wondering when I'll be able to use my headset. I guess I bought my PS4 just in time.

This is great for all of those who have the Pulse headsets. However, for me, I have the Sony Wireless Headset so it looks like I am SOL. A little disappointed but in my new situation I don't use headsets that much anymore. Would still be nice to have the option if I ever wanted to. I did recently buy a Sony Vita headset so I can just plug that into my DS4 if the need ever arises.

I think it will work with the update. Here is a question and response on the blog.

Question:

"What about the headset that came out before the pulse that’s the one i have. Does it work with the update?"

Response:

"Yes, our previous PlayStation wireless stereo headset will work on PS4 with the update!"

I just saw the youtube video for the gold headset a few minutes ago. I was going to be passed if that was the only one that worked with the PS4. After reading this I'm happy.

As I just tested it, the official BlueTooth Headset (monoaural earpiece) is not compatible after the 1.60 update. I got as far as getting it listed in the BlueTooth Devices screen (by putting it in pairing mode), but selecting it results in an "not compatible" error message.
