Is Ground Zeroes Disturbingly Short?

Okay, this probably isn't what MGS fans wanted to hear.

We know that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is just an appetizer to the main course, which is The Phantom Pain. However, this appetizer - though it may be tasty - is going to be a lot smaller than we might've anticipated.

According to Game Informer (as cited by Kotaku), Ground Zeroes can be beaten in only two hours:

"Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short. We completed it in just less than two hours."

However, they do clarify that the demo actually lasted four hours; enough time to play through the main mission and check out the extra modes. Besides, some players will play more slowly than others. In my experience, the lengths divulged by game reviewers are always much shorter than what, for most, is realistic. I still remember critics saying Heavenly Sword took only five hours to beat when in fact, it took me double that.

Also, don't forget that Ground Zeroes won't cost the full $60. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will cost $40 at retail and $30 for a digital download, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 installments will cost $30 for the physical copy and $20 for digital. ...not sure that's worth only a few hours, though.

Why not it's not a prologue directly placed in the phantom pain, (much like what they did in previous titles) quite plainly looks like a grab for more money. I don't doubt the quality of the experience but their practices over there are worrying.

Side missions 2 hours, Main Mission 2 hours more than enough for a semi open world game.

I'd rathar pay 30$ for a 4+ hour game than 60$ for a 5 hour game

The Phantom Pain only coming for the Current Generation.
Hell Yeah

I imagine the shortness is exaggerated. I almost always end up putting a lot more time in a 'Metal Gear' game than most reviewers claim to. I imagine it'll probably be closer to ten hours or so. Just a guess, though.

True. But I don't think Kojima would make a game of average length and divide it into two just to make extra money. I could end up disappointed, though.

Wasn't there some kind of equipment unlockable for MGS 4 if you went through it in less than 5 hours? I remember doing something like that back then.

Probably like an RPG where the main missions can be done in just hours but everything else will take hundreds of hours like skyrim. 4 hours seems short though, let's wait for an official response.

I'll honestly wait on this game after I read some reviews and get a feel if it's worth it. Two hours for $40 is hard to swallow for me.

I hope it's longer than two hours. Since I'm not a game reviewer, I may be able to get $40 worth of gameplay out of it.

No doubt it will actually be longer than two hours, but if Konami thinks it's okay to charge half-price for a fifth of the length, they need a good hard slappin'. I suppose it won't be so bad if it's fun to replay, like Ratchet: Nexus, but that still seems obscene.

I really hope this will not become a trend for any video games, especially MGS.
It's like separating the Snake part and Raiden part in MGS2.
Then again, it's all in the name of money.

Count me out, Phantom Pain for me instead.

The last time I heard a game would only take a couple hours, I spent like 18 with it. (Not sure how long it would be if I had plowed through it on easy) I never trust these estimates.

Oh dear, I hope this is wrong. $40 for a 2-4 hour "prologue" is scandalous. @World, it looks like your proclamation that this was little more than a glorified demo may be true...
