Which Franchise Needs To Be Rebooted This Generation?
"Reboots" have become quite common lately. We're seeing plenty; last year's Tomb Raider reboot did very well, and we're even getting another reboot later this month (Thief).
Developers decide to reboot franchises for a few reasons. For instance, if the series has started to fade and it's in desperate need of an overhaul (ala Tomb Raider) or, as in the case of Thief, the IP has been dormant for a long time.
So, which long-running series most needs a reboot in the new generation? Is it Resident Evil, the franchise that once defined survival/horror? Operation Raccoon City was less than mediocre and Resident Evil 6, while decent, really annoyed every survival/horror purist out there. Then again, maybe RE won't need to be rebooted because The Evil Within will hit big, and that'll be the only survival/horror series we require.
Or, does it need to be Call of Duty? Wouldn't it be interesting if developer Sledgehammer Games called this year's Call of Duty a "reboot?" They're at the helm for this year's entry, and that series could use an overhaul. It's hardly unpopular and we see a new one every damn year, so perhaps "reboot" is too strong a term, but CoD definitely needs something. Of course, there's the old standby: Final Fantasy. But Square Enix has their heads so far up their asses, they'd probably be shocked and stupefied to hear that fans want FF to be rebooted. I can see it now: "'gasp' Seriously?! B-b-but...everyone loves Final Fantasy!"
Well, what franchise gets your vote for a reboot?
