Sony Shares Some Big PS4 Stats

Sony says over 100 games are currently slated for the Vita.

Well, another 100 are headed to the PlayStation 4 in 2014. Or so says SCEA boss John Koller, who recently held a State of the Business Address at a PlayStation Media Preview event (as attended by PlayStation LifeStyle).

Koller said over 100 PS4 titles are scheduled for 2014 (an impressive number), and he also provided us with other key stats:

  • 1.7 million hours of gaming has been live streamed.
  • There’s been 172 million hours of online gaming.
  • 34 million hours of gaming are spent per week globally on the PS4.
  • 90% of all PS4s in the United States are connected to the internet.
  • There are 48 million monthly Shares captured.
  • PlayStation Plus memberships have grown over 90% since PS4 launch.

Yes indeed, the PS4 is off to a good start. The most important number, for me, is 100. Over 100 titles in 2014 alone? That's what matters; the games.

No wonder MS is having seizures about making more first party games.

Still though how many of those 100 are what I would consider "real" games?

I'm curious about that, too. How many are AAA? How many are quality $15 indie games? And then how many are junk games like pinball? I mean, I kinda like pinball, but in 2014, that's not what I'd consider a real game.

Even if it's 100 AAA games, I wouldn't want that to happen. AAA games needs to be spread out and come out sparingly, not frequently... imo. It's what makes them AAA and unique. I wouldn't want an AAA game to be a one hitter or come out every year cause quality would come down and the game becomes saturated.

That said, we shouldn't expect anything too high with AAA titles anyway. Hardcores should know that numbers can be a tool for the casuals to believe in. I'm confident that we'll get a lot of quality games this year though. 10 would already be a lot for me.

I'm a little surprised by the fact that Plus memberships have increased by 90%. That would mean that Plus didn't have much draw if you consider the size of the PS3 install base. Plus is an amazing value for the money so I'm scratching my head over why more people didn't take advantage.

more importantly out of those 100 how many are exclusively playable on the vita?
because thats what really matters, why would i play a game on a tiny 5" screen with awkward controls and a 3 hour battery life when i could play them on my 60" with 7.2 surround sound with a much better controller with twice the battery life?

nice to see a big fast adoption to next gen systems.
i just hope publishers learn how to spreat their titles better.
so frustrating seeing indie titles release up against the AAA big boys, i mean come on of course their going to get slaughtered!
then we never see a sequel, or in a matter of fact, never see that concept ever again!
hope AAA titles get better spread out too, f*cking frustrating sitting here for 3 months being board sh*tless, than in the space of 3 weeks, feb 27 to mid march we have like 10 games releasing!
almost THREE MONTHS gives is ONE game, THREE WEEKS gets us a dozzen or so!
WTF!?
not to mention you feel forced to rush through everything to get it done in time thus destroying your experience with it!

Those are impressive numbers. I guess the wait will indeed be worth it for those who adopted the PS4 early.

I figure those numbers probably include any small digital indie games. BUT won't know until the years end exactly.

Impressive numbers based on what Sony suggesting.

Keep playing!
