Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark Confirmed For 2014

Ready for another Transformers game?

Activision and Hasbro have announced Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which was just recently announced at a Hasbro preview event for the New York Toy Fair.

As reported by Examiner, the latest game installment will combine the universes created by developer High Moon Studios and the one created by Michael Bay in the movies.

Fans will once again have the opportunity to play as both the Autobots and Decepticons, and we'll also get a cool new playable character, Grimlock. The latter is in the upcoming "Transformers: Age of Extinction" movie, if you're wondering. As for the designers, it's no longer High Moon at the helm; Edge of Reality (Loadout) has assumed control.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS and PC later this year.

Grimlock was also in the last Tranformers, Fall of Cybertron game. This sounds like a ripoff to me. To be honest High Moon created a game fans of the comics can relate too. I'm not saying this will be a bad game but considering it's partly based on the next film means it will probably not be a tribute to the fans of the comics. I guess they haven't realized that the only good Transformers games are those not based on the movies.

Had heard of Edge of Reality before, decided to do some digging to find out where. They ported Mass Effect to the PS3, as well as helped port The Sims and Dragon Age: Origins to both last-gen consoles. Prior to Loadout, their last wholly developed game was the tie-in to 2008's The Incredible Hulk, which critics rated as decidedly average.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is little more than a cash-in on the part of Activision. Shame, considering the comparative quality of the Cybertron games.

On a related note, the 3DS version is actually going to be a strategy RPG. All I have to say on that is: "WHY THE HELL ISN'T THAT THE CONSOLE GAME?"
