BioWare Considering Mass Effect Trilogy For PS4, Xbox One

If you never picked up the Mass Effect Trilogy for the PS3 or Xbox 360, and you've already got a next-gen console, this news is for you.

BioWare released a trilogy package back in 2012; it boasted the first three titles in the vaunted franchise along with various downloadable content. It was available for consoles and PC.

Now, it seems BioWare is considering bringing this great trilogy to next-gen machines. When a fan asked BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn on Twitter if the Mass Effect Triology might land on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, he responded:

"We have discussed that internally. If we can put solid plans together we'll share. Great to hear you're keen."

That might be a good idea, especially if they decided to release it a little before the new Mass Effect was scheduled to arrive. We know they're working on the next entry in the series and collections are often solid lead-ins to new installments. Maybe the Trilogy would even boast new improvements!

I have to admit. In as much as I loved Sony devs brings HD versions of certain PS2 games to the PS3, I am really not sure I am up for a Mass Effect Trilogy upgrade to the PS4. Granted I do not have the PS4 yet, but still.. not sure its worth it.

Again, I love to play older games and it would be convenient to play it again on a next gen, but not sure its worth paying out the money again. There would need to be greater incentive for me.

Rather have another new Mass Effect with (mostly) or without Sheppard and entourage.

Keep playing!

I'm curious to see how the new one will be now that Shep is gone. I hope it has a new strategy for telling its story.

I agree. Nothing really enticing about a next gen face lift for the trilogy, considering the next ME is going to be an entirely new chapter, but if the price is right, I'd go for it (I missed out on the first).

I've only played the second one so a ps4 collection would be handy so I could play them in order the way they were intended. Have considered buying the collection for pc, but I'm an Origin hater.

It's worse than you think - the first one does not work on origin at all, and you have to spend about 3hrs going back and forth to the webchat people to get it to work! They ended up supplying me with a new code for it to work, but had to sign up to yet another EA website for it to work!

Great games though, and it is interesting to see how the control methods changed (big difference in the first one)

I admit I'd be tempted, but I've played the second one twice and haven't finished the third. So it's be a massive commitment. Not sure I can handle it, ME has a way of toying with my likes and dislikes.

This new generation is turning into a remastered generation. So far that's all that the ps4 has received lately, I do count all the Indy games as not new because they were all available on PC. I want new games.

I already have Mass Effect and will continue to play it on the ps3 if I want to revisit that universe, so don't get me wrong its a good series but I'm not rebuying them.

It's a new generation, it's to be expected. Besides, very few games are released in january and february anyways.

The plan with these remakes is to create a user base big enough on the new machines. This to avoid any potential sequels tanking hard on them.

Considering how much next-gen games are suppose to cost 'em, they're playing it safe.

Well while my first thought was "cool", I probably wouldn't buy it. I'm still bitter it took them so long to release Mass Effect 1 on PS3 and by that time I had finished 2, and 3 and am very satisfied with my outcome. I never played 1 for that reason, I felt like what I did in one may have altered my decisions in 2 and 3. Although It could be cool to see another outcome I ultimately felt like I would have regretted decisions and backtracked and redone things and thats just not how it's supposed to be played. In other words I wouldn't have enjoyed it like I did playing through 2 and 3.

I'm very worried about the next ME. Not that it won't be good but that they won't be able to top the story of Shephard. It's going to be tough and there's going to be a lot of expectations going into it from conaumers.

Fantastic!! I hope this happens! Loved the trilogy and would play through it again on the PS4 with Remote Play on the Vita. This is a huge win/win for PS Mass Effect fans!

What about new games for my shinny new PS4?

Really, I'm getting tired of these HD-HD remasters.

If I want to play PS3 games... I turn on my PS3.

They usually palm off HD updates on unknown companies to whom you normally wouldn't give the time of day.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD is being handled by Virtuos, a Chinese company. The Sly Collection was by Sanzaru Games. The Jak Collection was by Mass Media. Nintendo are just about the only ones who waste time doing it personally.

So don't worry, this wouldn't impact anything new from BioWare or EA.

I remember that when the PS2 came out, many complained about all the Dreamcast ports.

Companies do stuff like this (ports/remakes/remasters) to build a user base on new consoles and to be able to buy time to create something new (thus why most remasters are done by external teams).

Sigh...

Now I'll have to cancel out my most recent playthrough and wait for this to come out. Thanks Kojima.

and all they would have to do to sell it in large numbers is to offer another alternate ending - you know - a satisfying one ...

This could lead the way to Shepherds triumphant return in ME4.

Or not.

Sorry but this is the only time I will say yes Please take my money one more time. I absolutely adore the Mass Effect series and to have it in 1080p at 60fps would be butter on my toast. Please let this be true.

whats the point?
the whole point of ME is its story, everyones already experienced it already so why buy it and play through it again?

But like a good film or book, it never gets old to go through it again. Can't tell you how many times I've watched Indiana Jones or Star Wars. Also you can always change up little aspects of the character interactions and that's always fun.

cant compare those to ME.
the whole point of ME was to see how your actions would affect the universe, after 3 being out for a few years now, chances are people have already experienced that 10 fold!

I can compare them, because the experiences with a movie never change. They've also been out for well over 30 years. With remasters and the likes and people still buy them same films over and over. Just cause you are exhausted with Mass Effect doesn't mean the fanbase or newcomers are. Just saying.
