Kojima Worries That The Phantom Pain Is Simply Too Huge

Okay, so the prelude isn't very long. It's not supposed to be.

But the main game is going to be massive. At least, that's the impression we're all getting from boss man Hideo Kojima, who told IGN that The Phantom Pain might actually be too big for players to completely clear.

Believe it or not, Kojima says the main game is "more than 200x bigger than Ground Zeroes" and even though he can't give us an exact mission count, he said they'll have "lots." Well, that stands to reason. Concerning Ground Zeroes, he said:

"It’s not about clearing the story, it’s not about clearing the mission. It's about discovering new elements, new routes, new ways to play."

But can The Phantom Pain really be that big? As big as an Elder Scrolls game? As big as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to be? Or, if we're not talking about world size and simply the number of missions involved, exactly how long and involved is each mission? Yeah, we've got questions...

The more I hear of this, the more I think it's all BS. Quit talking in riddles and so damn vaguely. If nothing else just stop talking it is not helping the title in question. Don't get me wrong I love Kojima's work, but still....BS bro

You have to give this one to Kojima what an innovator! selling us the DLC before the main game!

I wonder if Kojima's comment could be considered trolling? It's certainly hype, and judging from the response, very effective hype.

Yeah, I'd like "200x bigger" to be explained. If it has 15,000 fetch side quests, no thank you.

If the world is so big it makes skyrim look like a pantry, then heck yeah.

Then why is the prelude only 2 hours long? Ever since that story broke Kojima and Konami have been on a damage control escapade. Less tweeting.

I read somewhere that a guy played the prelude for 9 hours and had only finished about 30% of it or some crazy statistic like that. Honestly, Kojima gets a little crazy but this all makes me unbelievably excited. I easily put over 100 hours in each game lol

I don't understand where all this skepticism comes from. This is the sixth 'Metal Gear' title (sixth and seventh, separating 'Ground Zeroes' and 'The Phantom Pain') Kojima has directed, produced, written and designed. And all of the preceding titles on which he has done so have been highly acclaimed.
If you've played 'Peace Walker' and seen gameplay from 'Ground Zeroes', then it's easy to see the upcoming two titles being expansions on the general concepts of the former title. And one could easily put 40-60 hours into that.

Anyway, I'm extremely excited for new 'Metal Gear', and I could see it rivaling 'Wild Hunt' in terms of the amount of content it boasts. But I find it difficult to believe that almost any title could rival 'Skyrim' in that department. But I'll take as much 'Metal Gear' as I can get, regardless.

Peace Walker the only Metal Gear Game I forced myself to end, I'm actually very preoccupied if this it's his new direction.

damn it kojima. i only have less than 200gb of space left on my ps4. if youre telling me that it would be more than the 80gb that elder scroll online game has, there will be a problem. i want to change my drive to a 1tb one but it means i have to redownload everything again. over 200gb in constant download. sony better be working on a wayto move games to an external drive at least temporarily to switch internal drives. that an a damn pause options on downloads. updates auto download whether im downloading a game or not. i want to make sure the thing i want downloads first damn it

So, the story of The Phantom Pain is going to be four hundred hours long? In that case, I can totally understand people not finishing it.

But then it's been said that Ground Zeroes can take over ten hours to "complete", so is he implying that it will take 2000 hours to complete TPP? That's what I call hyperbole and a half. I know that it's been six years since MGS4, but Kojima needs to calm down a bit, because the way he's hyping this part makes it sound a bit like the second coming.

In Guns Of The Patriots, there are many ways to accomplished the missions. Don't worry Kojima, I'll finish the game. And after my first play through, I will enjoy the world has to offer. I'll definitely going to play with the AI, I did it in the past games, they are great. I will make the enemies fall in love with Big Boss. And see if there is a difference if I do the missions in night time or day time. I'm getting myself excited.

one thing that really worries me.
allot of games recently have had open world tacked onto them and its really destroyed the feel of the game.
especially stealth games, its just so hard to build a stealth level large and open enough but still retain that stealth feel.
some of the more open levels in hitman absolution a perfect example, the bigger an area the more cover and paths you need so you can break line of sight and flank enemies.
larger and more open the level is the more and more difficult and complex its going to make the level design.
most developers dont realise this and just treat it as your small tight corridoor when its not, thus totally destroying the game.
really hope his team understands this and has designed around it.
exactly why i cringe whenever anyone says open stealth game, stealth just does not work with open large areas.

Definitely exaggeration but it will still be amazing and massive. Just not as large as he's making it to be.
