Sucker Punch On How The PS4 Made inFamous So Pretty

Developer Sucker Punch has some pretty nifty particle effects in store for us.

When the hotly anticipated inFamous: Second Son launches on March 21, gamers will be treated to a wide variety of very special...um...special effects.

In a new Metro interview, studio co-founder Chris Zimmerman talked about how the powerful PlayStation 4 helped the team build a custom particle system for the game:

"The thing that surprised us most about the PS4 was how many particles we could jam through it every frame. We built a new particle system around the PS4 architecture, so we kind of expected it to work well, but we were excited to see just how well. We can have particle systems with tens of thousands of particles without any trouble, and have up to a hundred or two thousand particles on screen at once in effects-heavy shots. We wouldn’t have been able to do smoke and neon as powers without the sinuous curves that all those particles afford us."

The protagonist, Delsin, will have access to multiple powers, and each should give you a great look at these amazing particle effects. For example, that neon power is all sorts of flashy:

Looks real good, but doesn't look like ingame footage... Still, based on what we've seen before I think this game will look splendid.

I just hope it brings something new to the table apart from upgraded looks, cause I'm not sure if "more of the same" will be enough this time around.

I think for the fans "more of the same" is kind of wanted. At least for me. I'm not looking for a re - booted franchise. I love the mechanics, I love the artistry and theway the games are presented as well as the combat system. We get a new character, a new story and abilities, and probably some upgrades to the mechanics and that to me as a fan is expected, and welcomed not to mention more than enough. The games are super solid already and in my opinion underrated. They have a proven formula and its certainly not stale so...

@big: No no, I don't mean a "reboot", not in any way, but I do crave an evolution of sorts.
Infamous 2 felt too much of an expansion to the first, really. Like Fallout New Vegas felt to Fallout 3.

Look at how Rockstar do it with GTA. They introduce something new and fresh in each entry, while still being very much true to their fundamental concept. I guess something similar is what I want for Infamous too.

And there are some areas I really want to see significant improvement:
AI is topping my list. The mobs really were dumb f*cks in the first two games, only repeating their preprogrammed routines.

I'd also love to see some improvement to handing. It's not *bad* in the former games, but there is something about it that just doesn't sit well. It feels a bit unpolished/raw, I think there's plenty room for improvement there.

Yesterday was the launch event in Mexico City and I got to play for about 30 minutes.

I can tell tha SS feels like inFamous, but better in every aspect.

And it has some amazing graphics, details and particles.

Delsin is something special.

Can't wait

I will be too busy this weekend playing Dark Souls 2. I won't even leave the house unless there's a fire.

Next weekend I'll be too busy playing Ground Zeroes. There's no inFamous on my map until my brother buys it, completes it and lends it to me. I spend my $ on games that I personally think are worth my hard earned money.

Sony released a new eight-minute trailer that is sexy as all hell. Also, seeing the footage and how much water is lying around, it certainly seems plausible that that is one of the powers. I mean, it has to be an element easily accessible.

The game looks very nice and it makes me wonder how far open-worlds can be pushed in the new gen, as well as how good games are going to look in a couple of years with optimisation.

I am so looking forward to this, but it looks like this will be the first in the series that I don't pre-order. Just haven't been able to save up enough money for the ps4 yet. Makes me sad, but at least it will still be available when I do manage to get my ps4.

true, but this is one game I don't mind supporting by paying full price. Only 1 of maybe 2-3 series games that I am willing to pay full price, so still a little sad I won't be playing it next week.

I'm starting to get that gut feeling that this one is going to blow the roof off the internet when it drops.

Someone was streaming this via their PS4 just a while ago. The game looks fantastic. I had to stop watching because of spoilers.

so powerful the games graphics dont look half as good as the reveal trailer?
funny how they always forget to mention that.
no, correction, funny how EVERYONE forgets to mention that!
i mentioned it last year when they showed it off at the eb expo, and now that a few copies have sold earlier on ebay theres allot of reports of it again.
so, why when ubisoft dumbs down the graphics of watchdogs the internet implodes, twitter implodes, and theres a billion and one stories about it.
but when $ony, and one of their games do it?
crickets!
typical!

so powerful that he actually said yesterday that the ps4 probably would be able to do second son 1080P 60FPS at this fidelity, but beyond that is pushing it?
seriously?
im sorry but if the "next gen" system cant do better than this, at 1080P and 60FPS, than you know it most certainly is not a next gen system!
