Sony On PS4 Shipments: We're Struggling To Meet Demand

The PlayStation Camera isn't the only "supply constrained" product in the PlayStation catalog.

Sony confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the PlayStation 4 will continue to be in short supply until the summer. Said boss man Andrew House:

"We're struggling to keep up with demand. Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we'll be closer to a full supply situation."

With high demand in North America and Europe, it's no real surprise. Thus far, at last count, the PS4 had sold 6.3 million units worldwide, which means Sony has already topped their goal of 5 million for the fiscal year (March 31). As for the Xbox One, Microsoft hasn't issued a new sales update since revealing the system had sold 3 million units as of December 31, 2013.

Availability is always key. Without any consoles to sell, it doesn't really matter how badly people want it, right? Here's hoping Sony can continue to satisfy demand the best they can between now and the summer months!

No problem for me. I was going to wait for next Xmas, but he additional $50 on the price up here in Canada may deter me for a bit longer, unless that price includes a game (Second Son) or more.

Ultimately I will decide then, for now its just waiting until Xmas arrives and my budget allows it.

Keep playing!

This is another reason i got mine at launch. There were games coming out i knew i wanted like Second Son. Had i waited I'd be without a ps4 more than likely.

I say it's rather smart for Sony to not launch Infamous in November. PS4 gets a good sales boost from the games when they spread them out. PS4 is sold out regardless anyway. Good job to Sony. I hope they can do a good job, maybe we will see the return of 3rd party exclusives soon.

LV,
Actually, although they're the #1 Taiwanese company in China for making motherboards for some company's, and consoles, phones & computer products, etc, for Apple, M$ & Sony products, I don't think you would like any of the 13 Foxconn manufacturering plants in China very much.

There have been many alleged stories of their workers being overworked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week & at low wages, also using workers as young as 14 years old.
And also a 2,000-person workers brawl at one of their living barracks over wages.

And at least 14 confirmed worker suicides in 2010.
Plus a narrowly-averted threat of mass suicide, that I also remembered reading about at numerous sites back somewhere around late 2011 or early 2012, I think it was.

So you'd probably better make that a "fly-on-the-wall" type of "SUPER"-secret tour if you still wanna go.

They could show you, but then they'd have to kill you.

At THIS point they are benefitting from the short supply, there are enough out there to know that it is THE console to have, but it's rare so demand is going even higher.

Not saying they are doing this on purpose, but I do think it helps in the end. When there are too many games to ignore and interest is still high they can release a flood of consoles in time for the autumn games.

"Greatness Awaits." Yeah and it will keep waiting because most of us can't find a ps4 to buy.

I really think they should have seen the huge demand coming. The hype they had, the original X Box One fail and the huge pre-orders were all a sign of times to come.

Disappointing they can't keep up with something that was so obvious it was going to happen...

Thing is PS4 actually had a 2 month production lead they have actually been pumping them out as fast as they can and in a higher amount than Microsoft.

makes you wonder why there is such low stock in the US, especially when were overflowing with stock and have been for a while now.
especially feb had a massive bunch of systems come in and stores have been pretty well stocked since.
looks like $onys grossly overestimated the amount of systems selling here for there to be so much stock left over.

If you don't despise Gamestop, all you have to do is walk in and order your PS4. When I went to buy mine, about month ago, signs said they had them in stock, but they didn't, the employee said they was able to order them though. Ordered on a Friday afternoon, received the following Wednesday.

My Gamestop got about 3 or 4 recently. Not sure if there are any left though. They sell fast, even in my little no where town.

In a completely unrelated note... My boss gave me the old Playstation Vita touch pad video kiosk... The thing is great! I'm gonna load Holy Grail, Meaning of Life, and Life of Brian on one side of the touch panel, and i need to pick 3 more movies to put on the other side. I'll have the idle loop be the "Lets all go to the Lobby" animation. I am loving this thing! XD
