Assassin's Creed: Unity Confirmed For Next-Gen Consoles

As expected, we'll get a new Assassin's Creed entry this year.

Ubisoft has released a new video today announcing Assassin's Creed: Unity for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. "Next-gen starts here," the video says, and the publisher reminds us that this project has been in development for over three years.

The settings of each franchise entry have been huge highlights, as this series excels in presenting an immersive, historically accurate atmosphere. So, where are we going this time? The French Revolution. There's all sorts of political intrigue in this time period, and I love the idea of France during that era! Ubisoft promises "more exciting details" in the very near future, so we can look forward to those.

No release date yet but I'm betting it'll drop in October or November.

If the rumors are true, there will be a second AC game releasing for last gen consoles.

So another 2 AC games....

I like that era.

Of course, I'll probably have to try AC:4 at some point. I'm thinking it should be under $20 soon.

I sold my Assassins Creed games recently... I'm just far too behind on the series now and these annual releases just make things worse.

I think they're taking a fairly stand-alone approach to the series, so it shouldn't hurt to skip some. I haven't got around to Black Flag yet, but have heard you really don't need to have played the other games to get into it.

Yeah I sold mine with the exception of one and two. Haven't played 4 though.

Yeah Axe, I didn't play through 2 or 3 or Liberation, and I had no trouble with the plot line for 4. I think you can jump in and out of this franchise with ease.

I liked AC Black Flag because I haven't played an AC game since II. I really didn't need another one this soon to be honest. And looks like I was wrong in my setting prediction.

Hoping for more investment in plot and character development. The French Revolution is a great backdrop for this but for the love of God, Invest in your characters and how they interact! AC4 was great but I just couldn't care less about anyone except maybe for Adiwale.

Looks very impressive and can't wait to see some actual gameplay. I wonder if there will be major improvements to character movement?!?!

I loves me some AC - while one a year is a lot, there's also nothing like it (unlike CoD/BF/Wolfestein/the next arcade shooter), so as long as they keep the quality up, I'll be happy playing them. Also dig the setting :).

an AC game tends to always get nominated for game of the year somewhere. It's doing something right

French Revolution? I'm interested. Definitely a cool time to be able to tool around it, but this is getting frustrating. I want to get into the series, but they just keep announcing new entries, so I'm not fussed about getting to them. And if the rumours are true and they have two separate games coming out this year, Unity and a PS360 version codenamed Comet, then that only makes matters much worse. :/

Oh, but that trailer looks fan-diddly-tastic.

There just isn't enough there with the AC series to keep my attention. I admire the open-worlds and admire that they aren't afraid to try new things, but I just can't get into them.

One interesting bit of information that I think most haven't noticed quickly is the lack of a number in the title...

I don't think they can link this era with any other on the franchise unless it involves time travel, or dare I say, memory travel?

I was kinda disappointed. My most wanted era is medieval Britain.

I really hope they do something amazing with the setting, it already looks and feels like the Ezio games. Which got very old by Revelations.

I am a little disappointed since we went through one revolutionary period, of sorts, and that game was disappointing, good, but not great.

This game should have been AC3, maybe.

I would have liked Britain in the Victorian era, industrial revolution and all in London and the UK in general. Hmmmm there are so many myths and things going on with the latter 1800's. I had always thought it would be cool to be in London at the time of the Ripper. The Ripper being a Templar agent insanely enough, the prostitues assassins, murdered with some Royal intrigue/connections. Heck, maybe a young Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, assassin, secretly investigating the Ripper. Assisted by an imaginative HG Wells or possibly bring in Jules Verne. Just thought at the time. :)

Of course I still for China dynasty adventure or should I say pre-China, before it was united.

I think Ubi won't touch either of these, the UK being the more obvious UBI won't bother with, but heres hoping that they MAY eventually get there if this series continues.

Keep playing!

love the local, its about f*cking time ubisoft brought back the architectural beauty the franchise was synonymous for!
i just hope they put allot more effort into the characters, character development and story this time.
they really havent hit the right character since the ezio trilogy what made that so great was you got to see him change so much over not only AC2, but then even more so in the rest of the series.
connor and edward really are faceless uninteresting cardboard cutouts, really no personality behind them, zero character development.
exactly why i actually really liked IVs DLC allot more the slave themes and characters added allot more meaning and heart to the story.
and that leads to the other side they really need to improve on.
AC 1 was one of the most tedious frustrating boring games out there, but so many pulled through it and finished it and replayed it and finished it countless times because of the amazing intricate complex story it had.
just goes to prove as long as a persons engaged in something thats all that really matters, there willing to forgive anything as long as there still engaged.
everything after 2 just felt lympwristed, half a$$ed, like their dragging their feet and seeing how far they can stretch it.
how long can we dangle people on before they loose interest, and im afraid that answer went and passed LONG ago!
they NEED to stop teasing things, they need to stop hinting, they need to stop with the ooooo surprises, than nothing comes with them, and actually GIVE us something!
so many times in ACIV, especially in the later bits where you get locked down the basement, i thought oh crap im going to be suspected, oh crap im going to get in trouble, then you start hacking the computers, you get the ever so slightest glimpse of a explanation of whats happening after 3, what happened to desmond, and how the story of the gods is continuing, and just as you get the ever so slightest glimpse, its snatched away faster than it came!
then you finish the game, and you have characters come to you who i swear look exactly like shawn and that IT chick who were helping you from 2 all the way to desmonds death, come and say to you your doing great please finish hacking all the computers.
leading you to think oooooo if i do that than maybe ill finally get a explanation of what happened at the end of 3, what happened to them and to desmond, to that temple, and how the gods story continues from here.
but nope, you get jack!
come on ubisoft enough stringing us on, we have been waiting to understand minerva and her plans, and the gods, and all that gobbledygook, since f*cking 2009 i think thats more than long enough!

a bit disappointed, this just seems too similar to ezio's environment, maybe some interesting political plotlines i guess. when they teased all the possible settings in ac4 i was really pulling for thirteenth century egypt or fourteenth century japan, just something to really switch it up

I'm always ready for another AC. I suppose I could get tired of it at some point, but waiting 11 months for another AC is long enough for me! Bring it on!
