I Guess Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is A Next-Gen Title Now
I mean, it's a logical assumption, isn't it?
We've waited almost this entire generation for Final Fantasy Versus XIII to arrive and it has never happened. In terms of progress reports, we've seen next to nothing from Square Enix. Very, very little.
They said they'd get back to it after Final Fantasy XIII-2 was out but lo and behold, here comes Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns, with absolutely no news about Versus XIII. To top it all off, the next-generation consoles are very likely to launch later this year (it seems Sony will announce the PS4 this month) and still, not a peep from Square Enix concerning the long-anticipated piece of vaporware. Oh yes, vaporware it is until the publisher can prove the project still exists.
And if it really does still exist, wouldn't it almost have to be a next-gen title by now? Maybe that's precisely what we should've anticipated for the past year or so; maybe Square Enix has been biding their time, putting Versus XIII on the back burner so their ambitious vision can be realized by the more powerful hardware of a new generation. I suppose that's a pretty good possibility at this point and hey, it just might give the bitter FF fans some hope. I have little faith in the game in question but I've resolved never to give up on this franchise.
Perhaps if it hits the PS4 like a ton of bricks, many fans will be able to forgive and forget...

On the other hand, I could not stop playing Ni no Kuni. I'm yet to get my hands on Persona 4 Golden. There's just too much backlog of games to buy and play it. I will definitely be buying it though.

"You know what, lets make this multi-plat"
"But we've been making it for PS3. It's too good for the 360. It just won't cut it. I really with you'd listen to me."
"Hmmm... how can we get it on xbox without taking away any awesome"
"... you'd have to get them to make a new xbox..."
"I've got it! We'll just have to let them make a new xbox!"
"I miss my friends at Mistwalker."

Actually, from my point of view, this whole generation has been a long list of broken promises from Software developer/publishers. Generally speaking these broken promises hurt PlayStation. If I were Sony, I'd have started stepping on some toes to get them to geek their promises, or make good on commitments.

Asfor the game being on the Playstation 4, if so, I am expecting it to look a lot better than we have ever seen it. This is a game which is looking to have been developed for the entirety of this generation. I can't recall any other game taking this long. Has it been 7 years now? The last thing I saw on Versus XIII was the 2011 January trailer... In the meantime Final Fantasy XIII has simply not been delivering either, they're good games, but nothing in the league of 'Squaresoft's' Final Fantasy's. During this waiting period I have gone on to play other RPG's some which are far beyond what XIII ever delivered. S-E is simply being beat by the competition now. Something I would not dare expect back in the golden age of Squaresoft. Having played Xenoblade and soon to move on to Ni No Kuni, they really put Final Fantasy XIII to perspective, I look at Lightning Rises and compare it to them and all I can do is shake my head.

just nothing shown what so ever, and every time they say oh will start showing it at x time, and x time passes and they dont even comment on why it was not shown when they said it would be.

I think it's fair to be impatient with no news in years and a 6-7 year wait. Soon we'll be looking at a 10 year development cycle before long.
Most games release around 1 year if hearing an announcement.
And when two xiii sequels are announced and released in that time combined with the versus team being regularly reassigned, I think the author here is more than justified in being skeptical.

And by the way, saying it comes out for the next generation is hardly impatience. The next generation will probably start this year.

I couldn't care less of SE, but the fact that they are scheduled to unveil information about a long term project means you should wait.
Next Gen starting this year? like Holiday season right? with 0 games announced, haven't you guys stated that next gen could come next year for the pas 2-3 years? I come here for News, Reviews and information as well, not left handed opinions founded on 2nd or 3rd hand info, or your own speculation.
So chill. lashing out at your readers because they stand against your opinion is not professional.

What great games take that long? Uncharted 2 took a couple years... Even Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 didn't take this long, and even then it wasn't like it was the be-all-end-all you are expecting.
You know what you get when you get a game that takes entire generations to be made? You get Duke Nukem Forever.
No... games that take 8+ years (it will be at least that if not more as we still have no new info) are obviously games that have lost focus and/or direction.
Name one decade-in-development game that was amazing. -ONE-.
Yes games take time... but only 2-3 years. You may have a point in regards to annualized titles, but for the most part...
Hey... did you realize that in the time it's taken Versus, we will have had all 3 Uncharteds and The Last of Us? (If we are going by what 1 company has done) And we -STILL- won't have had Versus in that time. So, you'll have to forgive me for not buying into the "great games take time" excuse.
We aren't being ignorant towards others. If I look and say, "um, why is this game taking so much longer than planned" and "why is there no new info lately?", that's not ignorant... that's observant.
And no one's mad at you... we're just chuckling a bit.

So I think honestly that it will come for the PS3 but will be kind of a swan song for the console.
Now a completely other theory, is that it is next gen and they ported it to the Agni engine and that is why when Kitase was asked about it he said it looked unlike anything we've ever seen and it was stupendous or something. I dunno it was a poor translation but basically he said the game look amazing from a graphics and gameplay standpoint.
So maybe it is being pushed into next gen. But I seriously hope it isn't.

The PS2 sold millions and millions after the PS3 launch, so for the PS3 to do the same with the PS4, getting games like these will certainly be favorable. Also remember the quote from Sony Execs (?) about unannounced, first party and third party games that will further support the PS3 at least through 2015.
I personally don't mind if it releases for the PS3, but I can't deny how much better it would be for the game if it was ported to the PS4. I'm good either way I guess. I just want to play this game.

I honestly want it for the PS3 more because I don't want to buy a PS4 right away. I will admit though I just want the game to release and if that means it goes to the PS4 and I never see it until way later when I get one so be it.

The part that bothers me most is they didn't even have a lot of Final Fantasy to work with. Instead they experimented and played around with a single FF saga for the WHOLE generation. Do they not know pretty much everything they're doing is the opposite of what the fans want?
FFXIII had a PERFECTLY fine ending. This whole paradox thing is a sad excuse to pull off unnecessary expansions in order for them to be able to exploit their "yearly" release experiment. That or they're just overly obsessive into making Lighting an icon like Cloud was.

And Public Service Announcement: While my best guess is I think we'll get a Versus XIII eventually, everyone should realize this company is TOTALLY fine with disappointing their fans, and it's entirely possible they are just going to let the game die a quiet, inglorious death and harvest the best parts for FF XV. Everyone would be do well to expect the worst from SE -- I think they've earned the doubts at this point.

In this waiting time companies have fallen. Uncharted has had 4 overly polished games. We've had 2 Elder Scroll games. 2 Fallout games. We've seen Capcom w*oring out RE. We've seen many HD remakes. Just about 3 bioshocks. Naughty Dog has started a new IP. I reached guild rank 20 in white knight chronicles 2. MGS4 got trophy support. Now, the ps4 is being announced. The longest generation of consoles and they couldnt release a damn HD update.
