inFamous: Second Son Generates PS4 Sales Spike In UK

It helps when great new exclusive software arrives, doesn't it?

According to a recent MCV report, the recently released inFamous: Second Son has generated quite the sales spike in the UK.

A "trusted retail source" claims that sales of PlayStation 4 consoles jumped 106 percent last week due to the launch of the anticipated PS4 exclusive title. inFamous is currently #1 on the UK sales charts as well, which isn't a huge surprise. Comparatively speaking, Titanfall caused Xbox One sales to leap 96 percent when Respawn Entertainment's game launched a few weeks ago.

We don't have any official sales numbers for the new inFamous just yet but supposedly, it garnered the most number of pre-orders of any next-gen game to date.

That's great news though, glad to see it selling. Hopefully it can sell over 5 million copies.

But I thought the ps4 were more or less sold out anyway? How can they then handle *twice* the demand?
Something smells fishy here...

Was there a UK shortage, too?

Yeah, I don't think the shortage is nearly as bad in the UK as it is the US, but then, we don't really get a whole lot of news like that out of the UK/EU anyway. Who knows?

I'm not sure but I imagine I've read so? I see the UK branch of Amazon list 4 left in stock...

It's sold out here in Norway by the way, one of the bigger online merchants reports on their site (I just checked now) that they are sold out and expect new shipment 25th of may(!).

So yeah, doesn't look like the merchants are anywhere near able to handle a 100% increase in sales at all - unless they all had huge stocks right before the launch of Infamous 3.

Now I'm not accusing anyone of anything here, but something's just not right in this picture.

Two months before the next shipment... Oh lordy, I hope you're not waiting for one Beam ;)

If what you've found is indicative of the larger picture, that certainly does raise some questions. Of course, we can probably take the initial statement with a grain of salt. Anonymous source immediately sends up flags, regardless of whether they're "trusted" or not.
Guess we'll just have to wait until we can get whatever semi-official figures leak out. Unless Sony comes out trumpeting, which I don't really expect to happen.

I'm actually thinking it's not that impressive if it's just the UK, but also because it's just a 100% increase over the previous week, which I believe was pretty small.

Does sound impressive in a headline, though.

Nah I'm fine Lawless, I'll probably not get me a PS4 until Dragon Age Inquisition is here, and by then it should be easy to get one.

So what were the PS4 sales figures of the week prior, and how do they stack up to the XBO sales of the week before Titanfall?
It's easy to throw percentages around, but how do they stack up in terms of actual numbers. Glad that people are buying inFamous, in any case. Based on the earlier games, there definitely needs to be more awareness of these titles. Pure fun.

Just as an addendum, I've been checking VGChartz every now and again of late and I've noted something interesting.
Since the launch of the PS4 and XBO, the PS3 has been outselling the 360 by a ratio close to 2:1 almost every single week. That's the worldwide figure, though, as the 360 generally remains on top in NA from week-to-week. Not sure why I mention that. It seems significant for some bizarre reason.

Sony said it's a 10 year machine. I'm sure the PS3 will continue to sell through to 85+million.

The PS2 continued to sell another 20 million after the PS3 launched. I highly doubt those numbers will happen again, but another 5 seems reasonable to me.
