Embittered CoD Fans: Will This Year's Entry Win You Back?

Call of Duty: Ghosts didn't go over well with a lot of long-time CoD fanatics.

I know several who said it was a definite step back, and they remain skeptical as to the future of the series. Therefore, the big question is: If you count yourself among the CoD faithful, do you have confidence that this year's entry will restore your confidence and excitement in the series?

Granted, we don't really know anything about it just yet; I mean, aside from several bold claims from developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision. They've released some pretty lofty claims to the press, but that's not really anything new. They tend to do that with every new Call of Duty, so we can't put much stock in such boasting. However, will a new studio infuse new life into the franchise? Sledgehammer isn't exactly proven, although they have worked on the Modern Warfare games in the past. And Activision wouldn't hand the reigns of a billion-dollar franchise to an untested team, right?

Because it isn't Infinity Ward or Treyarch, will we really see something new? Perhaps it won't be innovative, but will it at least feel fresh? When you see the new CoD announced, what will you have to hear to make you happy?

What the hell else could cod bring to the table? Battlefield runs the fps world.

Welllll

I wouldn't call myself a fan of COD, but I am an FPS fan.

I bought COD Ghosts because I have loved everything Infinity Ward did for the series previously, little did I know that the game would be total crap and not worth the price I paid. The only thing I enjoyed was the Extinction mode and I can't even play more of that because it is DLC :/

This is Sledgehammers first game, and they are meant to be pushing next-gen quite hard according to some insiders who saw the game at the PS Destination event, so I will probably give this years entry a chance, depending on how it looks at reveal time.

I will probably always have a soft spot for COD, and will always be willing to give it a chance. I spent countless months and years playing MW and MW2.

I'm thinking, could it be that the franchise that inevitably at some stage will take over the fps throne will be Titanfall?

My impression is that Titanfall have some of that same mp "feel" as COD, only a bit more fancy with the titans and all.

I think you under estimate the attention spans of 95% of COD's fan base.

They will forget all about COD Ghosts and everything before it the moment a new COD becomes awesome again.

It is SUCH a shame that EA screwed the pooch with Battlefield 4, this was the year they REALLY had the chance to beat COD.

fanbase has been there in droans thats not the point of the article.
the point of the article is will the people who constantly hate on it because they have been churning out the same crap for years stop.
and thats the answer no they wont, its going to take allot more than one go.

You can order one but it's got to be a CashOnDelivery payment only, when your delivery boy puts his hand out for the tradeoff.

I liked black ops a lot. I thought the story was genuinely good, the multiplayer seemed to have great balance and the maps were well planned out. So I guess the next one should have that stuff I just said. Oh, and fewer homophobic, trash talking 12 year olds that totally pwn everyone. Nothing worse than those high pitched little bastards.

I believe those squeakers are part of the COD experience. Can't have a COD game without 'em!

12 years old....that old huh?
I guess they most be blooming a bit later this gen, LOL.

(The trash-talking rugrats I've heard always sounded to be about 5 years old....6 years old, tops).

If that's part of the call of duty experience then I'll stick to my verbally silent dark souls games.

Well... knowing a majority of COD fans, I don't think it takes much to win them back. A lot of them were ok with minor or no improvements at all with each new entry, so Activision doesn't have it too difficult.

to win me back, it would probably take a reboot of the games e.g new engine, real next gen graphics and a new direction for the game.

Its going to still sell a lot, and not change much of the formula.

To win me back it would be awesome for them to make a story that spanned from WW1 lets say, to the Black Ops future.

Make missions more open, give several different ways to complete missions, and to tackle objectives. Don't put it on rails just so you can script micheal bay moments into the game. Make the story interesting with a villain who has good motives.

That takes care of single player. Sadly I don't think they could change enough to make me play multiplayer again. It is just too floaty, to casual, to much aim assist, and too unbalanced to ever be fixed unless they start from scratch which we all know they wont do.

But I guess I would actually enjoy this MP if they had less perks, killstreaks and that sort of thing. CoD MW1 was really well balanced with only a hand full of perks and killstreaks that supplemented your gunplay.

Now MP just feels like this mess of spray and pray, or snipers camping to get godly kill streaks.

They'd get me to play a COD game if we went back in time to a real world war. Like WW2 or earlier. Thats the type of war game I could get into. Historical stuff in a video game = good

Ghosts was just a camperfest. They need to go back to high paced smaller maps and nerf the campers. Then I'll fall in love with Cod all over again.

Why do people have such a hard time rooting out campers? I think they have a rightful place in games. You just gotta not be an idiot rushing into places without checking your angles.

You think campers don't exist in real warfare when holding down a secure area?

yeah - this a video game mate - very little about it is realistic. Rooting out campers takes time and patience - when I want to slowly clear corners and creep around rooting out snipers I play battlefield - when i want a quick blast of adrenaline I play cod - given the complaints i've read - Ghosts just strayed to far from the fast paced COD formula and attempted to become a weak BF clone - minus the vehicles
