Sony Reveals Over 100 Titles Headed To PlayStation 4 In 2014

No games for PlayStation 4? Well, that's not really accurate.

And of course, as time goes on, it'll become less and less accurate. Sony has revealed a big ol' master list of over 100 titles that will be available on Sony's new console before the year is out.

The list does include previously released games like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and inFamous: Second Son, and there are a few questionable inclusions. For instance, who really knows if Driveclub will make it this year? But other than that, it's a pretty hefty and encouraging list, and some big-name titles are on there: Assassin's Creed: Unity, Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Order: 1886, and Murdered: Soul Suspect, just to name a few.

I don't see Uncharted 4 on there, though. Maybe they're waiting for E3 to drop that news...

That's a lot of games! Unfortunately, I'm interested in only a handful of them. Well, maybe 8-10 in total. Actually, for one year, that's pretty solid. I'll be a happy gamer, I wager.

90 will be indie games, that's the problem.

As a low-class indie developer, I must actually agree. Indies shouldn't be Sony's main focus, especially when most indie games are more or less the same, with only a rare few standing out of the 2D pixel crowd.

It is rather ironic to have an indie developer diss indie games, but I see most of them as try-hards. They just want to fit within the trend of the year. While not necessarily bad, I just want to see more creative stuff that takes advantage of the hardware in fun new ways. There's only so many pixels I can take before my brain gibs out.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid.
This gen started really slow new games wise. There is no shortage of old games on the PS4 though. Weird.

Well we shouldn't diss them, and I don't think it IS dissing to say that Sony is putting too much pressure on them. I really do buy and enjoy indie games from time to time, but they can't ever be the bread and butter of gaming imo.

That's unfortunate, but I suppose I knew what I was getting myself into. The PS4 for me is a long term investment, and while I honestly hoped for some enticing titles in 2014, I know they will land eventually.

Currently, there's only two games on that list that specifically catch my eye, but there's a few more that I may consider buying eventually, only if the reviews are good.
One such game is Second Son. I actually ended up preordering this, as I had some extra money and wanted an exclusive game worth playing. This game would have otherwise been on my 'maybe' list, but I'm thankful to have bought it. Aside from a few bugs and control issues, the game is surprising fun. (Though I have run into a few game breaking bugs, such as falling through the floor)

As for my must haves, WatchDogs and DriveClub are the only games I'm very interested in. DriveClub catches my eye, not because I want those gimmicky social features, but rather a next gen racing game. It looks solid, and I can't wait to try it.
WatchDogs looks to have a very interesting story, and is a must buy. Though, I may get it on another platform, depending on if Sony decides to sell it at their new unethical rates. (vs One, Wii U and PC, which are all expected to be $10 less)
I may also consider the new Assassin's Creed, but undecided right now.

So yeah, overall this year doesn't impress me. If anything, the last three years in gaming has been mediocre at best. It seems rare nowadays for a game to actually be worth the advertised value, and it is even more rare to find a complete game for less than $100, thanks to the ridiculous trend of overselling dlc.
Last three years of gaming, I can only recall a handful of games worth their weight.. And this saddens me deeply,

Of that 100, I wonder how many are indie and how many are proper new gen games.

I think it's more about how many games are of interest to you rather than how many are high budget, proper next gen games. There are at least 10 of them from the list. There can be 50 high budget games, but would it matter if they're not of interest to you?

But yea lol, just looking at the list, World is about right. About 90% is pretty much indy, but again, if they're to my interest I definitely wouldn't mind. Outlast, Resogun, and such were great for me.

Daus, not meaning to pick on you but it's just that I don't like to see the PS4 power wasted like this.

I mean, my old Windows XP computer can play those indies via Steam. I guess I'm just a Little bitter because almost 5 months into the PS4's life, the only two titles worth owning are Killzone and Infamous.

Yet, the store is filled with ports of old PS3 games and this 100 game list is not that great.

Second Son, Dynasty Warriors 8 Complete Edition, Destiny, DriveClub, WatchDogs, The Crew, and Order 1886. That's just PS4 for me.

PS3, I want FFXhd, South Park RPG, the growth of GT6, Kingdom hearts 2.5, Dark Souls II, and still yet to get Last of Us.

For Vita, I still have Persona 4 to buy.

Add that all up, with the free games PS Plus gives, I'm plenty satisfied. It doesn't help that my gaming time and budget is limited. All that can easily add over $500 dollars. I'm actually glad we're not receiving too many this year. There's gotta be some saved for next year!

I know this is a PS4 topic, but it's not like the PS3 or Vita is out of it so its a win for me. I can see how it may be a problem is PS4 is the only thing you have. Even that though, it's enough for me.

If you guys haven't try Warframe. It's actually pretty good when you get a good grasp of it.

It looks to be a solid racing simulation, at a similar level to the Gran Turismo series. It's also the first next gen racing simulator on the PS4, and has a ton of potential to be one of this generations most praised racing games. Authenticity is also a goal, just like with GT. So, GT fans are sure to adore DriveClub.

Personally, I see DriveClub as being GT's younger next gen brother.

Batman Arkham Knight
The Order
Dragon Age
Wolfenstein

and the indies Rocketbirds 2 and Transistor.

I guess that will have to do for 2014.

Arkham Knight and The Division. Those are the only things there that I have any real interest is as almost a quarter of the list I've already played. Not really an impressive list to say the least.

Ignitus, while I agree with you regarding the quality (or lack of) in most of these games, you really shouldn't knock all of the indies on there before you actually give them a try. See, while the PS4 is certainly powerful, there actually isn't a correct way to properly utilize this power. Indies and even the AAA studios are simply running code that isn't optimized for the PS4 architecture. Basically, every game on the system right now is running generic code, and relies entirely on the raw capabilities of the hardware.

The core indie nature is to release on as many platforms as possible, so their code is rarely ever optimized for a specific system. In fact, some game engines, such as Unity, make porting to multiple platforms easy and straightforward. You just click a button, and the PS4 version is compiled in an instant. Same goes for Xbox One, Wii U, Wii, PS3, iOS, Android, etc. Little to no changes are required for each port, so writing a game using generic and stable code is an obvious priority. Keeping the hardware requirements low also allows for easier porting, and fewer changes for each build.

So, while you're correct to assume that most of these indie games are capable of running on low end computer systems, as it makes porting easier.
However, there isn't a game on the PS4 that is (to my knowledge) optimized for the PS4 architecture. Full code optimization can take years, as it requires extensive knowledge of the hardware. Even Second Son is poorly optimized, as made evident by the clipping / mesh issues with certain objects in the game. Normally, this is a sign that the game itself was rushed to release, and a rushed product is never optimized for the systems architecture. (Rushed or not, Second Son is still amazing)

So yeah, I see your point. Though, don't hate on them indie folk just because they don't optimize for a single system. :p

Edit.
Wow, what the hell? It didn't reply to the thread... No idea what just happened, but I specifically clicked on the reply button.
Gah, my Android doesn't handle sites normally anymore! This is the second time this glitch happened! Last time was on a blog...

Is it weird that the first game to make me go "OOOOH!" was "Pure Pool"? Something about a good pool game gets me all kinds of excited.

Not at all! Pool is one of the only things I do when playing PlayStation Home.. Well, that and Poker, which I used to be ranked in the top 500 in North America. :D

So yeah, a good and realistic pool game is something I really, really want. Especially if it has good ball physics and stable multiplayer... Unlike the version in Home, which is full of bugs.

Isn't the Witcher 3 due for this year anymore? That's a strange title to forget to mention?

Anyhow, it's all about Dragon Age: Inquisition for me. That's the one game I really really look forward to this year.

ill eat my hat if drive club, the order and dragon age are out this year.
we have seen literally nothing for dragon age, literally nothing for the order and what we have everyones describing as buggy as hell no way it will be out this year, and as for driveclub thats been silent since they announced the delay last october!
and what percentage of that is going to be indie titles?
literally every day the past few weeks weve been hearing about indie titles, i mean dont get me wrong thats great.
but no one bought a next gen console for indie titles, everyone bought next gen systems to have their socks blown off with what AAA big blockbusters will offer.
so when are we finally going to see them?

this has gotta be the first generation where i really regret buying on launch day!
i mean theres always launch droughts thats par for the course, but they always at least launch with some big name games and some truly amazing ones!
i mean even the vita did pretty well, uncharted golden abyss is probably still to this day the best looking most ambitious game on there, and its was a freaking launch title!

It's so funny all I hear is there all Indie. These are Indie developers with a fixed budget. These are games that are and can be amazing. Everyone seems to think that because there are a ton of Indie games that there are no AAA games. That's not true. Also, the Indie games are in addition to the AAA games. If there were no Indie games then you would see the same number of AAA games. Indie devs don't hinder the AAA game dev process.

It's just that we'd rather they claim actual next gen games in their numbers rather than everything under the sun. It's like saying you've got a lot of money because you have coffee cans full of pennies.
