Will PlayStation Finally Get The Witcher Next Generation?

Thus far, The Witcher has only been available to PC and Xbox 360 players, which is unfortunate for RPG aficionados who game only on the PS3.

But maybe developer CD Projekt RED is looking to branch out in the next generation, as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been officially announced as coming in 2014 to the PC and "high-end platforms." ...well, the PS4 would qualify as a "high-end platform," would it not?

As revealed by Game Informer, it appears that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a source of inspiration for the developer, as Geralt's third adventure will be more open-ended and won't feature acts and chapters. In fact, the world will actually be about 20% bigger than Skyrim (which sounds daunting, to say the least) and they claim it'll take 40 minutes to traverse the entire map from one end to the other...and that's only if you're riding a horse.

Plus, a new version of the proprietary RED engine boasts new streaming technology that will minimize load times. As for the game's quests, they're being utilized in a three-tier structure with Geralt's main objective sitting at the top and then feeding into the invasion of Nilfgaardian, and then into simpler missions that might involve monster hunting. The latter should prove to be more in-depth, by the way, and CD Projekt will be tweaking other things, such as skill trees, magic signs and inventory.

So here's hoping that when they announce the intended platforms for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the PS4 will be included.

I got a strong feeling this is one of the positive consequences of Sony shifting to the x86 architecture.

I really am happy about this news, The first two Witcher games are excellent RPGs.

The Witcher franchise is just awesome in every way. Well the combat of the first one was kinda clunky, but part two fixed that problem.

"High end platforms." Plural.

The Wii U being out of the equation since it's anything but high-end, the only ones left are the PS4 and Next Box.

I hope so! I passed on The Witcher 2 because there was a rumor going around that it would come to the PS3. The Witcher is one of my top 10 games of all time. Here's hoping for CDPR giving the Playstation Brand fans some love by releasing The Witcher 2 and 3 for the PS4! They are all about fan service.

The Witcher 2 is awesome. It'd be great to have it ported to the PS4, running in all its ubersampling glory!!! :D

I read that Witcher 3 will be the last in the series. Might that mean we get the entire trilogy on PS4 in one sexy Deluxe package? :)

Also, even *more* exciting than the Witcher is their next RPG project. THAT looks good.

I am ecstatic that we get this developer over to our platform with the next gen!

Sexually Transmitted Disease'less, meaning naked lady photos. The Witcher has some beautiful women to show you! :)

well, I had my brother describe to me the game. He said a Witcher is a genetically modified dude, or something, who can't get a disease and can't have offspring. So the game has a whole ton of boinking around with whomever, wherever, don't matter. end of story

Aha! Yeah there's most definitely women found in these games whose outfits clearly are decided by grinning geeks behind a keyboard - to put it that way.

Not that I mind. Not one bit. Oh no. :)

Oh, yes, I see what you mean now Temjin001. Your brother is correct. Witcher's are looked at as non-human as well.

I'd like to play one of the Witcher games. I've heard they're fantastic, I've just never been a PC gamer.

i doubt they will simply because there such a small team and are already working on two projects, thats enough work.
not to mention the games are so story driven so it would be really difficult to follow on if you havent played 1 and 2.
and i cant see them porting them over.

How much work can it really be to port them now that the PS is x86 based. If Microsoft don't have any sort of exclusivity rights to the first two I think there's hope.

does not really matter, there only a small studio and there already working on 2 games thats enough.
they cant work on cyberpunk, the witcher 3 for all platforms, and work on restoring 1 and 2 for the ps4.
for the sake of the very small percentage of people who own the ps4 who will purchase it.
