Second Son Patch Will Let You Lock The FPS Rate At 30

Does a fluctuating frame rate bother you?

If so, you might appreciate the upcoming inFamous: Second Son patch. As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog, developer Sucker Punch will give players a few more options.

One of those options is a 30FPS cap, which lets you lock in the frame rate at 30. Said the studio:

"Internally we prefer the unlocked frame rate, but we recognise that some players find it distressing. So we’ll provide a way to ensure the game is not bumping up over 30FPS, if that’s how you prefer to play."

There will also be an option to disable the on-screen HUD, a chance to change the time of day at will, and future incorporation of "key bug fixes." I don't recall running into many bugs at all during my play time, and I didn't notice much FPS fluctuation, either. But some gamers are pretty anal about that kind of thing, so a 30FPS cap isn't a bad idea.

This patch won't be ready for at least a couple weeks, but it's great that Sucker Punch continues to work on an already excellent experience. Might as well make it even better, right?

The FPS is kind of all over the place but I prefer it that way and always unlocked the Bioshock games. It makes certain scenes more amazing. I might try the lock just to see the difference.

I like that the game uses day and night as part of the story, but changing that at will maybe after completion could be a cool way to check out the better part of the graphics update: the city under various lighting conditions.

I don't understand why people would want to lock the FPS?

So many people complained when the game was said to be running at 30fps, but now that we know the game actually runs well over 30fps MOST of the time, people are complaining again?

I NEVER noticed any issue with the framerate.

Ben, I'm honestly rather amazed that you didn't encounter any bugs during your play through. While the stuff I encountered certainly weren't game breaking, in the sense that the entire game didn't crash or explode, they were rather annoying to deal with.
I remember getting stuck in the ground a couple of times at the docks. I also had severe issues getting past the very first level, since the character didn't seem to want to grab on to anything.

Once I got past all that, the game was nearly perfect. Minor things, but annoying at the time,

I've had a couple minor things too, but the funniest is when the AI forgets about you. I've sauntered right into a base, right in front of the bad guys, pushed them around and they don't do squat. I subdue somebody for fun and that gets their attention.

i think thats actually normal, if you just walk into the base they think your a normal human they wont attack you until you prove your a "bio terrorist".
same thing on the streets, go jump on a DUP car and they wont give a rats a$$, hover over the car though and they jump out shooting you.

Can confirm. That doesn't appear to be a glitch.
The gangs will also ignore you... Well, not 'ignore' exactly, as they tend to yell at you, and telling you to basically run away. Still, they don't usually fight.

I've also found that some of the enemies will chase you around, without actually engaging you. Like, I was walking past a guard, and he yelled at me. Told me to 'hold still' to which I decided to do the complete opposite.
He ended up chasing me two streets before giving up.

Honestly, this is a really cool feature, and I wish more games worked like this.

Oh yeah? Cuz any other time it seemed like getting near those big DUP areas got me shot on sight. Guess I'm used to the last 2 where people are just shooting you 99% of the time.

"Good". It's spelled with a double O: GOOD.

Sorry I don't mean to be the spelling police here but you use that word in every single post you write, so I just had to say it. It's all GOOD.

The first time I got to the roof on the final mission Fetch didn't come with me or appear. I could see her purple marker she was just spinning round and round. I dropped down to where she was nothing. I had to jump off the tower to die. Next thing started on the roof and she was there and the mission was able to continue. Only bug I encountered on my play through.

gotta love how he phrased that.
bumping up over 30FPS.
thats not the problem you moron, the problem is when it bumps over 30FPS, than plummets down causing a freeze frame in the animation, getting your a$$ killed!
so many times that happened to me in the final battle with the red headed b*tch, especially when theres allot of particles flying around the game freezes for a moment.

another thing that really confuses me with the game is they have gone to the trouble to implement quite a clever AI trick where if your DS4 goes flat delsin will run to cover and hide till the controllers reconnected.
why go to all that trouble when you could just PAUSE THE GAME like us normal devs do?
again especially in the last boss battle theres not much cover so instead of running into cover he runs into a wall, still exposed, and you have to start the boss fight all over again because its not thought out very well!
*&^%$#@!#$%^&*()(*&^%$#$%^&*()!!!!! and several controllers went flying through the TV the other night!
like seriously, why is it so hard for developers these days to display at least even a modecum of COMMON SENSE!?
as the saying goes often the simplest solution is the best, and my favorite KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!
why go to all the effort creating a system that controls the character and puts him in what it THINKS is a safe area, to then find out woops its not and the character dies, when you could simply PAUSE THE F*CKING GAME!!!!!!!!!!
i COULD get the water of my windscreen by using my wipers, but nah wheres the fun in that, im going to spend 10 years and 100 billion freaking dollars developing a convoluted laser system to do it for me, and in the end instead of removing the water it instead cuts through the glass, through me, and through the next 5 cars behind me!
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess I'm in the minority because I haven't experienced any bugs at all. The frame rate lock is cool but i like the game how it is now. Runs extremely smooth so far.

I encountered a few small bugs. First I fell through the ground and into nothingness to die within the first 15 minutes of starting the game. Happened in earlier gta games relatively often so not a huge deal.

I also had one mission recently where there was a big gang of enemies that went braindead. I subdued half of them without any reaction. I could have killed them all that way, but some were too crowded for the button prompt to come up. The rest I shot in the leg.
Lastly I had to reload an autosave because the mission got stuck and wouldn't proceed.

Nothing gamebreaking, open-world games are impossible to get perfect.

As far as the update, the day to night change will probably be the only thing I'll use, but it's always nice to see devs polishing as much as they can.
