Red Dead Redemption 2...Any Time You're Ready, Rockstar

Seriously. Any time you're ready. We're all just waiting...patiently...well, sort of patiently.

As much as I love Grand Theft Auto, I might've been most impressed by Red Dead Redemption. There are several reasons for this lasting impact.

First and foremost, I had severe reservations heading into that game. Rockstar and Take-Two had dumped over $100 million into the project, and it had taken more than a few years to complete. Whenever that happens, one wonders what roadblocks the development team hit, and just how unrealistic our expectations had become. Therefore, while a critic is always supposed to enter into every review with a "blank slate" mind, I have to say I was skeptical.

Secondly, I'm not a fan of the Old West theme. I don't care about Westerns (movies), I never wanted to be a cowboy as a kid, and even the southwest design motif just sucks (a lot of sickly browns, grays and greens...blech). Therefore, I had no existing interest in the game of RDR; in fact, one could argue that I had a pre-existing bias against that setting. However, before the game was over, I did want to be a cowboy. I finally understood a bit of the mystique concerning the Old West.

Therefore, now that GTAV is out, I think it's time to announce RDR2. C'mon, Rockstar, no more staying quiet about your next project. Let's see that epic blockbuster, and let's see if you can once again capture my imagination.

100% with you Ben. Being a cowboy never interested me and when I heard about RDR I said "meh."

Turned out to be one of the greatest games and had one of the greatest stories of the entire generation. Super good. Go play it if you haven't.

Red Dead Redemption is by far one of the best open world video games ever to exist, if not one of the best of all time.

I honestly had little hopes or expectations going into it, and while I absolutely adore Rockstar, and made it my eternal mission to own every single game of theirs, RDR was really just 'meh' to me.

Then I popped it into my Xbox 360, and fell in love! I still play it to this day, and would absolutely love to see a new next gen adaption! Larger western landscapes, more wild animals, more everything!
Though I swear, they better keep in that poker mini game!

I concur. My love started with Red Dead Revolver though. Yeah, it was linear, but it had appeal and offered a more engaging story than - well - any other Western I had seen at the time. Just hearing that Redemption was open-world sold it for me, and the excellence that was the game was just a heaping scoop of frosting and ice cream on the cake.

So yeah... RDR2 - or just a continuation of that universe - should be next on the docket.

Can we please allow them to finish Agent first before starting something else? Thank you.

Yea, no. I can wait for RDR3. Would much rather see R* kick off the new generation with either a new IP that does something different, Midnight Club (just because it's been too damn long since LA) or Manhunt 3 (just to stir the pot a little). Don't get me wrong, RDRedemption was great, but with the number of open-world action games that are dropping, I just can't get excited about the prospect of yet another, even if it does come from the best.

there next game is not red dead, its a new IP.
as much as id love to see another red dead game im glad its a new IP, we need something new after the long drought of same old same old.
but first GTAV NEEDS to hit PC, come on i just want to see what it would be like on a decent machine.
hell a straightforward portover would do because then the community ICE mods will start flooding in and god i cant imagine what it will look like.
if GTAIV can look as good as it does with those mods, i cant wait to see what V will be like!
and Vs actually half decent and fun, so you will actually be able to play it instead of putting yourself to sleep after 10 minutes!

surprised and disappointed we havent heard of any expansion packs yet, GTA has always had awesome expansion packs giving a new story and even new locals and characters!
this is EXACTLY why people have a hissy fit when a SP game gets MP, not only the concern that the campaigns now going to receive less attention resources and budget, but also it pretty much destroys any chances of SP DLC!

I think that one of the reasons this game is so highly regarded is the fact that it didn't have too high expectations beforehand.

I mean, objectively speaking I see RDR as little more than "GTA in cowboyland". Same basic formula of insane characters, openness, mission structure, mini-games, etc.

Personally I rate GTA higher. But yeah - it was awesome.

It's fair to say that we won't see another Red Dead for a few years. I loved Red Dead Revolver and look how long it took just to get Redemption. I can wait for a new one. R* delivers quality that is worth the wait

They probably have something HUGE in mind with the next game, say like a mini mmo or something, and are taking their time with it.

These sandbox games do nothing for me. Too much space... Too much point A to B and back again zig-zagging. If it wasn't for Assassin's Creed's story and architecture, I would never have gotten into it. Thank goodness for those sewer warp zones in Brotherhood....

I'm the same way Ben, not much interest for the wild west & cowboy movies. .....

....but OH, I've got much love for Gun, RDRevolver, RDRedemption(& it's Undead Nightmare DLC).

So yeah, I def' want to see another RDR some time soon, along with another Bully, & a Agent launch trailer too.

This is kind of funny, Some of the first books I read were my dad's Louis Lamour books, so I've always liked the cowboy theme. However, although Red Dead was a great game, I never thought of it as being as fun or as hectic as the GTA series which I enjoy playing more.

It may have something to do with the fact that in RDR I never laughed hysterically from running head first into a bus on a motorbike...

Although I would play another Red Dead, I think a new IP would be more interesting to see.
