PS4 Owners: Get In On The FFXIV Beta Fun This Weekend

Need your MMORPG fix on the PlayStation 4? Get ready for a fun weekend.

Not only has The Elder Scrolls Online launched, but Square Enix has revealed that the PS4 iteration of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has entered its second beta phase. It's currently live; just go to the Store, download, and give it a try!

It's technically a beta, but the game does connect to the same services PS3 and PC players are using. Officially, the game launches on April 14, but that doesn't mean you can't get a jump on the epic adventuring, right? Just remember that this "beta" test ends on April 7 at 1 a.m. PT/4 a.m. ET, so you better take advantage of this weekend's offer. If you miss out, you can get Early Access by pre-ordering the game; that kicks off on April 11.

Obviously, Square Enix wants to give you as many reasons to play as possible. You gonna give it a shot?

I should try this out, I'd never pay for it but it could be a mind opener.

As far as MMOs go it is pretty solid. I would play this if there was some F2P option.

I've been having some fun in the beta so far. It actually has a final fantasy feeling story to it, which I like. FF11 actually had an amazing story, its just a shame that it took like upwards of 100 hours to see the main plot and there was a lot of grinding in between. But man was it awesome.

They must have put all their creative writing talent on this project and let the janitors write the other games :)

It's super solid. It's convinced me that it's worth a subscription for the time I'll be playing it. I also like that PS3, PS4 and Windows players can all play.

I love it.

I get not wanting to play a subscription game, though. On the other hand, I -really- think this is the wrong game to try some sort of F2P model. I would not touch it if it were F2P.

The closest I'll get to F2P is on PS+.

I love the game, but if it ever went F2P then I wouldn't touch it ever again. F2P needs to just die.

For myself I'll probably play this game a bunch for like 2-3 months. So with a $40 buy in, free for the first month and $15 there after, in 3 months I'll only be into the game $70. Not bad really. I just don't see myself sticking to it once The Elder Scrolls online and Destiny release. Rather I don't see it worth me paying for after that because I won't be able to spend as much time with it.

A lot of games go F2P, but I don't think Square Enix will follow that model. They need MONEY.

These games are cool. I played FF 14 up until a month ago. Got old. It makes me appreciate Skyrim all that much better.

You don't have to put up with trying to get a group up. You don't have to put up with putting up with GOLD FARMERS OR SELLERS soliciting all day. You don't have to put up with being called a noob for making one mistake when playing with ELITISTS and YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY 15 bucks a MONTH!

Think about this. You pay 60 bucks for the game to play for one month. OHE MONTH. Any other game you get to play it for as long as you like. Then after that month you have to pay 15 bucks a month just to play the same damn game.

Tired of paying to play. I will stick with the good old regular games or free stuff.

If Skyrim has any sort of monetary system, you can be sure there will be gold sellers. ALL mmo's do.

You can blacklist anyone trying to sell. It's so easy... I never get spammed. One message, and blocked. Done.

I never get yelled at for being a noob. Instead, don't join groups that say they're looking for experienced members in the party finder... join a newcomers welcome group or start your own newcomer group if doing a fight you're unfamiliar with. It's common courtesy to not join a group that says they're looking to beat it quick if you have never really done it before. Guess what? I get super upset if I start or join an "Experienced only" group and someone comes in, we start, and they go "first time, btw"........ >.<

60 bucks? wtf? You buy the game for (I don't know how much but not 60 bucks) and you get a month free.

Free to play would not work with this game.

Im not paying fifteen dollars a month for either Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn or Elder Scrolls Online no thank you. I avoid subscription basic game like the plague. especially when you cant pay for the subscription with Psn cards. I hope some day soon both games go to free 2 play real soon. till then i'll be enjoying warframe, DCUOnline & my regular games.

I don't think you guys realize the foundational difference F2P vs. P2P makes on how the game is made, run, and played. You can't just make a game that is one day P2P and on a whim switch to F2P.

The way they do updates and expansions is too different. The community is too different. It's just... yeah, too different. Any experience from say... both SWKOTR and FFXIV:ARR... two games that are similar in a lot of ways, makes it painfully obvious how much different they are.

F2P models are only great for the first few levels until you hit a wall.

Also, I truly feel I get value for a subscription. The last update last week was massive. Compare the boosts we got with the last two updates with what you get from DLC for the same cost... It's just great value, and everyone is on equal ground. No advantage to be had from just buying anything.

have you tried playing Warframe? I've played for over 80hrs so far, and there's no wall. The only thing that's bothersome is waiting time for crafting items, but I don't mind the wait if I can just earn it through the game. It's endlessly supported, no silly advantages for those that don't pony up the cash, and lots of fun.

If every F2P was like warframe, no question I'd prefer it over monthly subscription.

Palmetto, it's not functionally the same. The support is crap and there's a huge disparity in the community and access to content in DC Online.

I don't know if it's working for them financially or not, but the game itself exists in pieces. I might play this chunk of the game, while other people go play that chunk. I don't understand what is so hard to see here.....

Daus, the waiting time for crafting items is one of the functional differences I'm talking about... You have to pay to have complete access, but in pieces that add up. I also dislike the fact that I have to play a certain way if I choose not to pay. I should never have to dig out my wallet in the middle of playing a game. That's just so distracting and dirty.

Again... functionally different in operation and support. Warframe does NOT get the same size updates that FFXIV and other subscription models get. Not even -close-. When you say it's supported well, I know what you mean. But it just simply is not the same at all.

Played for 5 hours last night and I really enjoyed it. Level 8 was achieved and my Gladiator powers are good not great. May try Marauder next when it releases. The game is huge the graphics are beautiful. I need to get stronger with a better sword and armor. Right now I have a cloak. I also need shield. I will be disappointed if I cannot dual wield. I can see myself playing this for a month or two. I only paid $10 for it so that's good. The enemies look great. I have to constantly look down right to time my powers for maximized effect. This causes me to miss some of the fight. I have to get use to that. Love watching my character cleave up the enemies. Great game so far as I really think this game has some legs and will never go F2P.

You can't dual wield, but the next update will introduce the ninja job which can dual wield.

I have all my crafting classes at least to 30 with 3 of them at 50. If you play on Malboro, I can craft you some high quality gear for your level if you like.
