Kojima, DICE, Bungie Wowed By Tom Clancy's The Division

If Hideo Kojima really said this, Tom Clancy's The Division just became one of our most anticipated next-gen games.

In development at Massive Entertainment and set to be produced by Ubisoft, The Division is getting a lot of attention among industry insiders. This includes Metal Gear Solid guru Kojima.

According to The Examiner, Massive Entertainment Managing Director David Polfeldt talked about people's reactions to his team's game at E3 this year. Among those who were impressed were Kojima, DICE, and the Destiny developers (Bungie). Polfeldt describes Kojima's reaction:

"What meant more to us than maybe anything else, is that we had every single competing developer come over to our booth and asking for a show. Two minutes after E3 opened, we had Hideo Kojima come over to the Ubisoft booth and he said I want to see The Division. Then the press guy said politely, ‘okay so do you want to see the other Ubisoft games?’ [Kojima replied] ‘nope I just want to see The Division.’ The very first presentation we did at E3 was made for Hideo Kojima and his interpreter. Then he leans forward to his interpreter and he says ‘you guys are so good, it makes me want to quit my job.’"

That's a pretty hefty statement, wouldn't you say? However, we have heard Kojima heap high praise on Western developers before, and he has admitted that Japanese game makers are indeed lagging behind their Western counterparts. Still, Kojima knows what he's looking at and if he said that...we wanna see more of The Division ASAP.

Kojima is a god amongst developers, but I swear, if his stories start to suffer because of his intense interest in pushing freedom of gameplay (and I'm not saying that complete agency is a bad thing), I am going to be p*ssed. I love the idea of role-playing Snake in The Phantom Pain, but I'm just not interested in the story of The Division because it doesn't have a story. It's an MMO with a narrative backdrop. Keep that s**t to yo'selves, Ubi.

What I've seen from the division has totally blown me away. Only problem is that it's an MMO.

Late reply but.

All of you seem to be misinformed yes the game has to be played online but it does not have to be played with other people, there is no forced grouping, the story mode can be finished completely solo without ever stepping into one of the multiplayer only PVP zones, and I believe it was limited to only 8 players per zone, someone will need to confirm this but I believe it was 8 players+2 drones allowing for a full party of friends+an equal number of potenial enemies.

You all need to start thinking of this game as more of a realistic Borderlands on steroids than an MMO. Both Destiny and Division are more of this than an actual MMO.

Yes it shares a lot of characteristics of an MMO and there was a lot of bumbling by devs around E3 who called it an MMO, which has now been withdrawn. This is a "quasi-MMO". The only areas that will have a massive amount of people on screen at once are the "Hubs" where you will go for rest after missions and traveling, etc. and is where you will be doing most of your trading and talking.

Also I believe I stated this before back around E3 but this was the only game at E3 2013 that truly made me go "Wow! This is next-gen."

told ya this is going to be big!
just a shame its a MMO, really pissing me off how many creative cool wow thats awesome i cant believe we havent seen that before games are finally starting to seep through, but their all f*cking MMOs!
titanfall, destiny, this, the crew, hell even NFS rivals was a cool game ruined by shoving everything online!
makes me really excited for ubis E3 show this year though, how are they going to top the last 2?
maybe patrices new IP, you know that game ubisoft bought off THQ after they went belly up, than patrice left wanting to take the IP with him.
or maybe there FINALLY going to unveil rainbow six patriots, i really hope they have not lost that amazingly personal emotional feeling the reveal trailer provoked.
ive never been so impressed and emotionally involved in a reveal trailer before so it was really disappointing to hear its gone back to the drawing board.
rainbow six is such a unique cool franchise, it would be such a shame to see it die.
obviously FC4 is a no brainer it will be there, but im not really so sure of the rumored setting with rideable elephants.
i mean what made FC and FC3 so amazing and awesome, and what made FC2 so dull and boring, were their settings.
1 and 3 so full of life, really did feel like you were lost in the middle of nowhere and had tons to do.
FC2 was far too barren, it felt like the country areas of GTASA.
FAR too big, and so empty and deserted you felt like you were in the middle of the desert, not a country field.
i can just see FC4 forgetting all the things that made 3 so amazing, and worse repeating all the things that made 2 so dull, repetitive and boring.

I've said it from the very get go. This is by far my most anticipated game of the new gen. I absolutely loved ghost recon future soldier. Was it flawed yes. Were the servers shitty? absolutely!!! But man when that game ran well it was an absolute blast to play.
