Does The Witcher 3 Perform Better On PS4? Well, Perhaps

Many multiplatform games have been confirmed to boast a higher resolution on the PlayStation 4, as compared to the Xbox One.

However, it remains to be seen if CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one such title.

A Russian gaming website claimed the PS4 version of the hotly anticipated RPG displayed at 900p high-definition and 30 frames per second, while the Xbox One iteration ran in 720p/30fps. GameSpot tried to get the developer to confirm this, but the team isn't ready to talk just yet:

"It's just a rumor and we are not commenting [on] rumors. As soon as we will be ready to announce Spec we will let you know."

We know this game requires a huge amount of power and in fact, the developer has claimed that The Witcher 3 nearly maxes out the capabilities of both next-gen consoles. Given the sheer size of the game, it's incredibly unlikely that they'll manage 1080p or 60fps but even so, it should remain mighty impressive.

This is indeed an extremely ambitious undertaking. The question remains, though: Is this another game that just seems better off on the PS4? The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due out in February 2015.

I wonder what makes it unable to run really well, just the sheer size, the number of textures, the object on screen, lighting, the draw distance?

Size shouldn't matter if it's handled right. ;-)

Obviously the hardware is limited or it'd run it better, I want to know what it is about this particular game that is so spectacular it had taxed PS4 down to 900p

Well they created something called ubersampling for the witcher 2 which pushed high end PCs at the time.

So if they have something like this then that could be a reason for it. The other thing is CDProjekt likes to push PC hardware so they might have started doing that before they got next gen kits.

I would say its probably something to do with the anti aliasing and draw distance, also the dynamic nature of the AI and quest system that is supposed to be in place in the game.

Even though the PS4 is powerful for a console, it still is going to be more limited than a beast mode PC, with 16 gigs of ram, and 2 video cards, which some people run with these days.

But I can't say for certain what required the scaling down of things this is just my guess.

"next gen" and it cant even manage 1080P in a massive open world like this, i mean come on this is just embarrassing!
ive always complained these systems are FAR too underpowered, but this is just pathetic!

its funny how were suddenly getting allot of games that dont look as good as what their reveal trailers did, and i guess this explains why.
developers have countlessly said they did not know what the specs of next gen systems would be like until very close to their reveal, so they have created the games on hardware they expected, showed off the games, than realized oh sh*t there no where near where we thought they would be!

it was funny watching the video IGN did showing off the event $ony held to hand out the ps4s they were giving to reviewers, adam boyd accidentally inadvertently let slip that when the ps4 was in early development the code name was indeed orbis, the name the rumors kept mentioning.
and that reminded me of the leaked ps4 dev SDK that leaked ages ago, those pages listing those crazy specs of a cell CPU but with 2 PPEs and 32SPUs, and a crazy high spec GPU, and a crazy high doubled XDR2 memory, it was basically a ps3 but super amped up.
i wouldnt be surprised to see this is what developers were expecting to see with the ps4, than at the last minute $ony was tossing up on whether they could afford to go with a crazy high cost system, or to go with the cheaper lesser designed system, and decided on the latter.
that would certainly explain why so many games just dont look half as good as they did at their reveal, and why games now really are not hitting the mark they should be.
i mean come on PC has been hitting the 1080P 60FPS mark for years now!
and that would also explain why M$ waited so long for their reveal, they wanted to wait and see which $ony went with so they dont needlessly go too much either way.

Uh... I think you got some wires crossed somewhere. The Witcher 3 IS new-gen exclusive.

That's like asking if a game will run better on a $150 graphics card or a $250 graphics card. I think I can guess.

How is 900p and barely reaching 30fps (probably with nothing on screen) a win for the ps4? That's like kissing your sister
