Uncharted Actor "Recast," Perhaps Due To Obvious Reasons?

More shake-ups at Naughty Dog.

According to IGN, the developer has chosen to ditch actor Todd Stashwick. He says his role has been "recast," and he was playing a significant part, too.

Interestingly, Stashwick recently revealed that he would co-write the new Star Wars game with former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig. She joined EA shortly after leaving Naughty Dog and it appears Stashwick followed her in some capacity...and maybe the developer isn't a big fan of that "capacity."

Stashwick had been working on the new Uncharted since at least last November but now he's gone. Wonder if Naughty Dog will provide an explanation for this one... Don't forget that the studio has lost several high-profile employees in 2014.

I get the feeling that this is making a mountain out of a molehill. The guy was a voice actor (I don't think he helped with the script on UC4); it's not as though he's as crucial to ND as Amy Hennig. Same goes for the hullabaloo over the departure of Nate Wells. The guy provided artistic direction since 2012, which basically means the very end of TLoU and Left Behind, nothing more.

Maybe he was recast because he doesn't work there anymore?

Depends what significant means to the actor. Maybe it's not all that big of a role?

A crisis because a few people have left?

Lately i've been getting a bit annoyed at the gaming community, I mean, everyone is acting like these high profile AAA developers are basically one man shows.

Like, one person leaves and the whole studio is about to fall apart.

Seriously, there are SO many people involved with creating a game that just ONE person leaving won't have a devastating effect. Generally it is the companies way of doing things, not one single persons. Even with writing, yes the new UC will probably be different from the previous ones, BUT this would have happened even if Amy Henning stayed. The whole reason why she left was apparently due to creative differences on UC4. Which illustrates how the company as a whole influences each aspect of the game.

Because EA, LoL and Sparrow are working on different things, that the rest of the industry isn't.

A new Star Wars game, LoL, and whatever Sparrow are working on.

Sometimes people just want a change of scenery. It isn't the end of the world, of ND for that matter.

i dont think so.
judging by all the developers whinging about how controlling EA is i find both quite unlikely.
plus, id much rather get paid less and work on an amazing ambitious project out of ND, than be rich and a star wars game which has about a .00000000000001% chance of being as good.
but that is extremely unlikely, i cant see EA paying that much better than $onys paying their best most awarded developers, hell the survival of $ony hangs off of ND!
weve never seen an amazing star wars game, and visceral are hardly the pedigree developers ND are.
not to mention their only experience is with dead space which couldnt be anymore different!
theres allot more to this than meets the eye.

In my opinion based on work experience in the real world, it's not necessarily "extremely concerning" as people around the net say.

Mind you, I don't work in an industry at all related to technology, but nevertheless... in my experience, staff leaving is typically bad when it's large numbers of frontline and mid-management staff. Not the higher ups.

Often, the highest paid staff are statistically the most transient. The primary reason being, their expertise is in higher demand, and they can usually make more elsewhere.

Now, if significant numbers of their staff also leave in a showing of support...

Man, I don't like the sound of any of this. I have no reason to think Naughty Dog is in trouble or anything, but clearly some bad stuff went down behind the scenes for so many people to leave so abruptly in the middle of a major project. And now the voice actor is gone??? That REALLY is surprising. Look forward to a reporter figuring out what really happened eventually.
