Sony: Console Wars Are A Good Thing For The Industry

"Competition is always healthy."

That's precisely the reason why these PlayStation vs. Xbox wars are actually a good thing, according to Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida.

During a recent GameSpot interview, Yoshida said such a battle is "best for the industry and consumers;" it creates a back-and-forth scenario where one competitor attempts to match and subsequently top the other. Then again, you don't want your opponents to do too well. Said Yoshida:

"So I don't want Microsoft or Nintendo to be totally unsuccessful. At the same time, I don't want them to be totally successful [laughs]. So I think we can kind of help each other by healthy competition."

Of course, it helps if we can keep such debates civil. When they slide into the realm of hostile immaturity, nobody really benefits because gamers just come across as egocentric douchebags. We get the general competition concept, though.

I'll be fine with MS and Ninty being unsuccessful to make room for someone else to push the limits of the console wars. Crappy consoles don't make things better.

Um...Wii U and Xbox One certainly arent crappy. If games make the console, then they are all pretty even with the Wii U having a slight lead.

I guess it depends on your version of crappy. If next gen means a console that has last gen tech to you, then you might disagree with World.

At least their acknowledging competition is good. This shows that they're not just looking at numbers. They want provide the best they can give the consumer and a lot of times you got to see what the other guys are doing.

Shame MS would rather bribe and cheat than to play fair. I swear, everytime Yoshida-sama says something, its the words of a great leader.

Competition is good regardless if the market debates civil over it or not, that's irrelevant.

Even if there was just one machine on the entire planet that did everything, I can promise you there would still be uncivil debates and hostile stupidity.
