Plus Version Of Driveclub Contains About 1/5 Of Full Game

The controversial PlayStation Plus version of Driveclub has been fully revealed.

Developer Evolution Studios gave us all the pertinent details over at the PlayStation Blog; prior to this information, the team confirmed that the Plus version would be "feature-complete."

But everyone's question was the same: How much content do we get for free? Well, we're getting 10 cars, 11 tracks, and one location (India), which is about 1/5 of what's available in the full game: 50 cars, 55 tracks, 5 locations, and 50 tour events. If you download the Plus version and are impressed with what you see, you can upgrade to the full version for $49.99, $10 less than the normal $60 price. However, it's important to remember that you will only have access to all the content so long as your Plus account remains active.

Driveclub launches exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on October 7.

Bit dodgy that you lose the game if you don't renew your subscription... Also, 50 cars is just a sad figure.

and we have to wonder why Sony is launching Drive Club a month before a whole ton of new PS+ members subscription's are set to expire. As I said below, I don't think that can be as much the case now that we know just how small Drive Club is relative to the real thing, but still, it just doesn't look good to me.

The stink just keeps getting worse surrounding Drive Club. I'm sorry but this was not a smart move by Sony.

I could go along with it if PS+ members could, say, upgrade their gimped copy to the full edition for like $20. But to have to pay $50 in order to do so? Sorry, bad move.

Sony seems to really be dropping the ball so far this gen.......
Both ShadowFall and Knack are well below Sony's normal standard. And here's Drive Club, a game that is being marketed terribly.

EDIT: It's the ONE location thing about this deal that really irks me. 10 tracks all in India could technically mean several modified versions of the same track. Picture something like the Suzuka Circuit from GT. (i love that circuit btw)

btw.. so much for my use Drive Club to persuade PS+ purchases theory... maybe they are to some extent but this is a worse scenario in my eyes.

I believe this is a sign of things to come for PSN Plus.
Gone will be the days of free AAA games, I believe Sony is losing more money than making with things the way they are now.
They spoiled us with some of the best games of the generation for nothing if you were a PSn Plus member on the PS3.
But I think it will be all demos(AAA) from now on, with a few indie games here and there and some HD collection thrown in for good measure...

If Sony users create a big enough stink Sony could do a 180 on this.
It blows me away Sony didn't learn anything from the XO PR disaster.

I think I prefer consoles being in the under-dog position. Because it seems companies don't make stupid money grab ideas like this one when they are.

...and can you believe that little infomercial Drive Club thing they're using for this? The one that tries to clearly explain to us their plan and how we're supposed to interpret it. No. We're not that stupid. We see right through it.

I wish people who bought a launch PS4 would cry Bloody Murder over this. I'm sure I read somewhere that people who pre-ordered it would get the "full" game for free...
I guess we need to start watching PSN Plus very closely from now on, lets see if the stream of AAA games start to dry up little by little.
They might add Exclusives AAA from time to time, but my fear lies with third party AAA games ever making an appearance, like Bioshock Infinite...

It's "free" so WTH...

If it convinces me to purchase the whole game it's done it's job, otherwise I'll think of it as a free trial.

Looks that will be the future of PS+ now that it is mandatory for online play: AAA demos that unlock to the full game for a fee.

I am not ok with spending $50 on the game if I can lose access if I unsubscribe from PS+. This is a direction that is not good for Sony to take, and people will take notice to this anti consumer way.

This just forces you to have digital copies of games for a cheaper price. I have limited space as it is. I don't want to upgrade my hd just yet. I'll play the demo if I like it I'll wait for a price drop for the hard copy thank you. Plenty of other games to play while waiting too.

Does the PS+ has a free day 1 AAA game? And I guess it's best if Sony doesn't have a ps+ version of this game, release it only as a physical copy. In that sense, ps+ subscribers doesn't have an option for a free demo. doesn't have a chance for a discount. That will be nice. PS+ subscribers are forced to buy the physical copy and they don't have any other options.

Up until this point, if I paid money for anything, it was mine forever. I just preordered Wolfenstein on the store for a discounted price. Now if I stopped subscribing to Plus, do I lose that one too. I love racing games. This was a day one purchase for me. Now I'm not so sure.

No, I think you're probably OK with Wolfenstein.

The way I've read into it, it's just the DriveClub game that they're doing it with....(at least so far).
But someone else can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

--------------
I don't own a PS 4 but as far as I'm concerned this new DriveClub situation stinks to high heaven for those who do, or will be.!

PS4 owners were promised & seemingly misled to believe that they'd get a full game free, not a semi-gimped up model.

And given without any restrictions what-so-ever, and there was never any notice or mention that there would be a fuller version for the retail price later.

This was a horrible business strategy that I believe will backfire, with Sony winding up apologizing with the full version for free as a peace-offering(hopefully).
