Insider: PS4 Owners Will Get The Best Watch Dogs Experience

This isn't the first time we've heard such a claim.

After rumors that Watch Dogs on the PlayStation 4 would run at a higher native resolution than it's Xbox One counterpart, industry insider Tidux has tried to make it plain: Play the PS4 version.

According to the tipster's Twitter page:

"If you are getting WD on #PS4 you get the best console experience."

He added the following- "that your gaming experience is better on #PS4 is here to stay." You could interpret that any number of ways, but it's all positive for PS4 owners. That's if you believe his so-called inside information, by the way. Some of these guys are often right but then again, sometimes they're dead flat wrong.

Still, let's not forget that last year's Assassin's Creed: Black Flag ran better on PS4, too, and that was a Ubisoft game, so...

I think in general it's safe to expect that all games are going to do this. I'm tickled that developers and publishers have decided not to dumb down the PS4 versions for parity this time. The best should get the best, always.

I agree. What do you think of Sunset Overdrive?

IDK about World but it is probably the one X1 exclusive that seem to hold any promise. My only worry is that they did not really show us any multiplayer and if the whole game is simply killing the zombie-mutant things over and over again I feel it might have a short lifespan.

Also not sure whether to find it cool or funny that game seems to be a huge mash of every other games' mechanic the devs seemed to really like.

Sunset Overdrive is gonna be the sickness. I'm seriously going to get an XBO for it and Quantum Break. Not until after I get a PS4, though.

Not sure about Ubisoft specifically, Caesar, but there is documented evidence of many late-gen games doing so.

They did do it last gen. Sometimes simply by stopping development once it reached the same level as 360 or ignoring the cores altogether. We know development could have made multiplats better on PS3, they just chose not to.

A far as Sunset Overdrive is concerned it looks sorta different and also kind of like a kooky version of inFamous. I wouldn't play it and I wonder if the Xbox audience is the best place for it (non gritty shooter). Probably sell 1 million.

This new gen the tables have turned. Every multiplat will run better on PS4. Hardly a surprise. Why is this news?

Cuz no one got to brag about all the multi-plat games running better on the PS3. And yes a negligible difference is still a difference.

Yeah I guess some people will have to point it out every time to release their lower quality PS3 multiplats trauma.

Most of us will just be happy to play them. I think.

Sony machines have always been the best even if last gen the multi-platform titles ran better on 360 we seen all of the ps3 glory in there exclusives. And now this gen we will see the ps4 glory in both. I will not buy a XBone this gen, i bought a 360 and only have like 3 games while my ps3 has like 100+. I have every gaming console but the xbone and iam ok with that...

PS1 was FAR weaker than the N64 it was simply cheaper to develop for. PS2 was a good deal weaker than the GCN and much weaker than the Xbox, believe it was also weaker than the Dreamcast. The PS2 simply won people over with the multimedia functionality. Why buy a DVD player when you could buy a DVD player and a new gamesystem? It also launched a good deal before the Xbox.

Where did they go, those who said it was such a scandal and catastrophe of Sony to change architecture to the industry standard? There were quite a few doomsday prophets around a couple of years ago...

not some 2008 PC with a premium slapped onto it because it has the word $ony on it.

That's a debatable claim on several accounts, underline.

First off, with multiple manufacturers (and obviously multiple price points) of the Steambox, can it even be counted as a console?

And if so, can a Steambox priced in the same price range of the PS4 possibly be of better performance? I'd say that's impossible for pure mathematical/economical reasons.

So, my prediction is that it will boil down to the age-long question of "how much better than a console is a PC that cost three times more?".
And, well, that discussion is really quite irrelevant and also very uninteresting, in my personal opinion.

@ Ignitus,
That's unworthy.

@ blankline,
Basically what Beamboom said. Steambox isn't really a console; it's a more accessible gaming-oriented PC that is designed to be hooked up to TVs. And from what I've seen, it doesn't match console specs with their price points, in general.

@ Beam,
I think I sided slightly with those calling for bespoke hardware, but I don't regret it. As it is right now, it's a good thing for PS4 owners that their getting better multiplatform games, but without a console with 100% custom architecture it's impossible to say whether it would be a better choice in the long run or not, as there's no point of comparison. And is it even worth bringing up the point any more when the XBO hardware is weaker on paper as well as in reality?

So long as a more basic architecture doesn't result in a shorter generation, I'm cool with it.

@Lawless,
because of that performance gap we will *always* get the better version of the games, cause just as they find better ways to exploit the Xbone so will they with the PS4. So I predict that gap to only widen, if changing at all.

I think the legacy of the PS3 really says what needs to be said in regards to exotic system design.

@Underdog,
Good question. I'm not so sure if I want this gen to last just as long as the last gen - I really think that one lasted a year or two too long - but the length of the generation is primarily much in the hands of the manufacturers. If they *want* the generation to last for ten years then it's just to not release a new generation and nobody has any choice but to keep churning out software for that generation.
As long as the sales are there they will feel no urge to replace this generation, as they will only earn more per unit for each passing year.

I plan to be late to the PS4 party. Would suck if it moves on shortly after my arrival.

I thought last gen timing was great. I was against moving on a couple years ago, but now it seemed like a very fluid transition to me. I can't possibly imagine there are people who played everything they wanted to on the PS3.

Underdog,
there were still plenty games I wanted to play, I just didn't want to play them on the PS3. Man, I don't think I've been this tired of any electronic device ever before. :D

But your plan on joining the party late is a good one. I'm with ya. Maybe - MAYBE - Dragon Age this autumn pushes me to get me the PS4, but just as likely I'll play that game on the PC and wait 'till next year with the PS4.

yea id still call them consoles.
it offers all the benefits of consoles, except obviously the set controlled hardware and OS.
whole point of steambox is to give people more bang for their buck and thats exactly what there doing.
and fof course they will give you more performance than both "next gen" consoles!
hell, im in the process of building a friend of mine a new mini ATX system, totals come to $568 bucks, still shopping around for better prices.
thats 18 bucks more than the ps4, and thats at big computer stores i wanted to get most of the parts from MSY who are known to be the cheapest retailer for PC parts, but they dont have them in stock, so if they get them in time ill probably end up shaving a easy 100 bucks off that!
to give you a idea of how stupid cheap this place is, ASUS G750 with the 880M top model normally retails for $3000, they have it on sale now for $2000!
and of course upgrade the parts to soak that up.
it can run EVERYTHING at full HD average around 45FPS with all the bells and whistles on.
most ps4 games are based off medium settings on PC, this gives you ultra settings, extra AA, higher frame rate, and with some games a higher resolution!
and thats me going off a computer store retailer pricing, imagine how much bang for the buck $ony and co get buying in bulk and wholesale pricing!
and add a extra 300 bucks to that 550 buck budget and another friend of mine built his system last year for that price, 850 bucks he spent and hes playing battlefield 4 maxed out highest everything in 2560x1600 resolution and still getting a average FPS of 40!

i cant wait till steambox comes out, its going to make the world wake up and realise how much they really have been ripped off!

best CONSOLE experience!
and hows this news?
1 hows this fact, coming from an "insider source"?
2 no one has ever mentioned what the specs of the xbox one version will be, so how do we know?
3 the devs confirmed MONTHS ago that the ps4 version would be 1080P 60FPS, but couldnt say for other platforms because they were still optimising.
really starting to get sick of the rabid dogs jumping on every fly they see to make the xbox one look bad!
especially when its coming from "inside sources" which could be kermit the frog for all we know!

Getting sick of "insiders" being used for news. Especially limp and obvious news like this. Honestly. We know that Black Flag ran noticeably better on the PS4 than the XBO, and this is developed by the same studio. The Digital Foundry breakdown of Child of Light points out the PS4 as the best console option. Ubisoft has been siding with Sony for years, and are following this trend with several missions equating to roughly an hour's worth of exclusive content. All quantifiable evidence points to this "news" being a foregone conclusion, so where the hell does this 'Tidux' get off thinking that he's offering breaking news?

No offence to you, John; I understand the need to put out all relevant news, and I do realise that you've hedged your bet in delivering the news. It just frustrates me that these guys comments are so widely spread. I suppose we should just blame Dualshockers for filling up N4G with such nonsense and move on. That's a proper terrible site, btw.

I don't think dualshockers is that bad. Besides they state time and again to take those things with a grain of salt. If everyone jumps off a bridge with the news that's not their fault. It's pretty much a given at this point that multiplat games will play and run better on PS4. So I can agree we don't need a constant reminder.
