Ubisoft Confirms: Watch Dogs At 900p On PS4, 792p On Xbox One

At least now we can finally put this issue to rest.

The performance of Watch Dogs on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one has been a much-debated topic during recent weeks. Yesterday, we saw Sony quietly remove the claim of "1080p/60FPS" from the official banner for the PS4 version.

So, what's the deal? Creative director Jonathan Morin has cleared everything up in a new post at the Ubisoft blog: The PS4 version of the game will run at 900p while the Xbox One iteration will only manage 792p. Both versions, however, will run at 30 frames per second. This being said, Morin stressed that these are "just numbers:"

"Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games. But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything. You want to have a steady framerate, but you want to have dynamism at the core of the experience. The same goes with resolution."

Morin further explained how resolution and frame rate benchmarks change depending on what type of game you're making. Corridor shooters, for example, can look amazing with "all the effects on," but you can't get away with that in a big, vibrant, open-world setting. And that makes sense.

One thing remains true, though: It's another multiplatform title that performs just a little better on Sony's machine.

Yay! Neither console can hit 1080p for such a huge, involved game. Can the fanboy crap stop now?

Blame the devs not the consoles.
Maybe another 4 months of development they could hit1080p,well on ps4 anyway!
I say the suits at ubisoft were busting skulls to get this out asap when it became clear the standards set at e3 2012 were not going to be met!

They've already had seven or eight more months than they were originally expected to have. If they can't get it up to a 1080p standard in that time, it's pretty clear not an important thing to them. This is the same studio that delivered the 1080p Black Flag, after all.

Whether the fault of the developer or the console, it doesn't change the fact that neither console is hitting 1080p for Watch Dogs, so the constant arguments about 1080p are pointless and annoying.

same studio, completely different team.
to compare this to ACIV is pretty silly too, this has a metric sh*t ton more effects and things going on screen than what ACIV does!
so of course its going to have a lower resolution.

So, you agree with me that it's the fault of the game?

Wolfeh,
Mine can't. It couldn't even run Gone Home on Medium settings in my screen's random maximum resolution of 1366x768 without stuttering.

PS4 iz soopiria!

not really the fault of the game, but a fault of the nature of it.
its like how people complain when supercars get the roofs chopped off and become convertibles, and inadvertently have worse handling.
or significantly heavier.
its not a fault of the manufactures, just the nature of that process.

yeah i can see where they are comin from and it makes sense so for anyone how wants to complain don't this is the way things are with different types of games okay and if you don't understand the get someone to explain it to you

happy gaming =)

792p seems like an extremely random resolution.

Same as Titanfall. I think it might become some kind of standard for XBO games that are running at 900p on PS4. It's a 10% line increase over 720p, so it's not as random as something like 841p. *shrugs*

what happened to the 1080P 60FPS confirmation a few months ago?
so much for the no, no, the graphics have not been downgraded.
so much for "next gen" consoles, when they cant even deliver watch dogs at 1080P you know your REALLY in trouble!
steamboxes cant release soon enough, wake these idiots up and realise how much they have really been ripped off!

This is the problem with the first entry of a game in a new system.

X months from now Ubisoft will release Watchdogs 2 with 1080P and 60FPS.
