Ubisoft Confirms: Watch Dogs At 900p On PS4, 792p On Xbox One
At least now we can finally put this issue to rest.
The performance of Watch Dogs on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one has been a much-debated topic during recent weeks. Yesterday, we saw Sony quietly remove the claim of "1080p/60FPS" from the official banner for the PS4 version.
So, what's the deal? Creative director Jonathan Morin has cleared everything up in a new post at the Ubisoft blog: The PS4 version of the game will run at 900p while the Xbox One iteration will only manage 792p. Both versions, however, will run at 30 frames per second. This being said, Morin stressed that these are "just numbers:"
"Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games. But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything. You want to have a steady framerate, but you want to have dynamism at the core of the experience. The same goes with resolution."
Morin further explained how resolution and frame rate benchmarks change depending on what type of game you're making. Corridor shooters, for example, can look amazing with "all the effects on," but you can't get away with that in a big, vibrant, open-world setting. And that makes sense.
One thing remains true, though: It's another multiplatform title that performs just a little better on Sony's machine.
