Sony Teases PS4 Unveiling With Special Homage Video?

The upcoming PlayStation Meeting set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. EST is destined to be huge. Sony has booked the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC and the rumors keep swirling everywhere.

Now, they've updated the official website for the event with a special promotional video, which you can see below. Is this the lead-in to a PS4 announcement in only a few days time?

This video highlights the dawn of the PlayStation brand, noting how Sony changed the face of the industry in only a few short years. Those who are old enough (and have good memories) might recall the marketing campaign with the headline, "You are not ready," and most long-time gamers will remember the titles on display. Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy, Madden, Metal Gear Solid, and more; yes indeed, PlayStation has always delivered the singular experiences! The brand has flown high from the start.

So what's next? A look back at the PS2 and then the PS3 before Wednesday...? That's a possibility, yes?

Its a cool video, I was watching it earlier with a buddy. Hes convinced the PS4 is still a couple years off and if not it will be a PS3.5. I hope hes wrong on both accounts.

I think in some respects it will be a PS3.5 but that's not really a bad thing, there will be many more bells and whistles that markets are finally ready for, better media integration etc, but the power under the hood, while basically a PC, is still enough to perform much better than PS3 while being easier for developers and it'll surely leave Wii U in the dust.

I kind of assume it wont be a huge leap either. But thats ok. Im more worried about the social media aspect as well as the cell phone games. Thats why I have my phone and so forth. I play games like Uncharted on my console. And not angry birds.

I'm just utterly exhausted right now, but that snippet sent some hype through my body.

So I musta been about 14 when PS1 came out, wow it's been a wild ride. I'm glad Sony is getting out in front of MS this time; they seem ready to take the lead and own gaming again. No more being pushed around by the peanut gallery.

I just like that it seems to be first out and appears to be more powerful than the new Xbox. MS apparently will force everyone to buy a KINECT with their Xbox. puke

I did a Best Buy pickup of Darksiders II today ($15 thank you) and they tried to give me an xbox version despite my order being clearly for PS3. I'm hoping those days are at an end.

Temjin, from what I have read, not only will MS be including KINECT in the next xbox (forcing people to "buy" it as you put it), but the xbox will not even work if KINECT is not plugged into the console!!

Nice score on DS2 though ;)

Simcoe, yah, everything Im reading about the new xbox is just sickening. Windows 8, Kinect etc, blocked used games, is just lame. THey're so far away from the Xbox that defined them in 2001-2004 it's hard to believe they would go so shovelware, pop-culture media forward so quickly.

LOL, $ony are not exactly being subtle now are they?
oh well, at least now its defiantly going to be the ps4.
if it ends up being a revision to the vita, this is going to be THE worst marketing in the history of the universe!
but then, hey this is $ony were talking about, so i guess the skies the limit.
