The Witness Striving For 1080p And 60 FPS On PlayStation 4

So, how's The Witness coming along?

Just fine, thank you, says designer Jonathan Blow. In a new post over at the PlayStation Blog, Blow gave anticipatory gamers an update on his new game, and added a few encouraging details.

First, he revealed that he'd been working on The Witness for over five years and even though we don't yet have an official release date, he says it's getting "closer and closer." This is an ambitious game and "getting it right takes time," added Blow, and he has no interest in rushing the game out the door. He did confirm that the "main line" content is finished, and when it launches on PS4, it should max out at 1080p and 60 frames per second.

That's the target for "many areas of the game" but not all of them. Even so, we have to be satisfied with that, right? The Witness is definitely one of the more intriguing titles on the horizon and we can't wait to check it out!

That's just grand.
I hope they print it in big bold text right where the game title would normally go.

1080p and 60FPS

(in smaller tiny text somewhere below) "The Witness"
THe PS core will just gobble it up like hotcakes.

Really?

This is all there is? 1080/60!

We are saved!!!!

This is getting old fast. Unbelivable how some people got hurt with the ps3 multiplats that have to point out every game that runs at 1080.

Fanboys need to mature.

Why do people act like specs never mattered? It goes back to the 16bit days. It's funny how people pointed out how 360 games ran better than the PS3 counter part, but have a problem that people point out how much better the PS4 versions run now.

it's become ridiculous that's why.
I remember being at Dualshockers and I checked the comments when Watch Dogs was believed to be supposedly 1080p and 60fps. There were like over hundred posts with many guys referencing ejaculating, having orgasms and also posting crude pictures suggesting things of the sort.
It's insane and overblown and disgraceful. It was never like this before, especially during the 16-bit days as you've referenced.

I wish "1080p" and "60fps" would just go away. If my 6-yr old draws a picture and you look at it thru a microscope it's just a clearer version of a 6-year old's drawing. Resolution really doesn't mean that much anymore. We're not dealing with 16k games anymore. And the funny thing is the higher we go, the worse performance we actually get. I mean seriously, with all te tech and advances we have gotten in the last 30 years...why do we still have breakup and slowdown? The more we get, the more we "have" to use it, even tho programmers simply aren't smart enough to know their own boundaries. Just because we had 64 crayons didn't mean we had to use every one in every picture. Now we have 1080 crayons (for example's sake) and we have to use every one of those in every picture.

Frame-per-second is a slightly diff matter but not by much. Yeah, we all like things super smooth but you mean a game running at 57fps is so much more terrible than one running at 60fps? Bring your scale down to the tech you're using and stop using it as the excuse why your game fails.

I have to say, only the Wii does it right. Work within the parameters you're given.

A lot of people are whining about this 1080p/60fps issue as if it is nothing... well I have to disagree. I am baffled at how this is not an industry standard for all next gen games. The PS3 really should have been hitting 1080p but the majority of titles were 720p and the PS4 and Xbox still haven't solved this? I think it just shows they we're still not ready for next gen, even if we've had a long run with the PS3 if they can't take the consoles to the next level I can wait another year until they can figure out how to manage it.

We shouldn't be seeing the resoulation quality being selectively chosen for one title and not the other, it really should be the standard for the system. As I said yesterday, movies are already getting released on Blu-ray in 4k so why is this an issue, if the consoles cannot handle 1080p, then the specs should be better to handle it and as I said before if it is too early to expect that keep making titles for the PS3 until they're ready for next gen.
