April NPD: Titanfall Tops Again, PS4 Outsells Xbox One

The next-gen consoles continue to push the industry forward.

The NPD Group has released the US sales tallies for April and for the fourth month in a row, the PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One.

The latter sold 115,000 units and as usual, Sony didn't report hardware numbers. Here's another very interesting factoid:

"Life to date, sales of PS4 and Xbox One hardware have more than doubled the combined sales of facPS3 and 360 hardware through their first six months of sales.vvPS4 software combined with Xbox One software sales are up over 40 percent compared to sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 through their first six months."

Even so, overall software sales fell 10 percent to $227.9 million as compared to the $254.3 million generated during the same period last year. As for the top ten titles for the month, Titanfall again topped the list:

  • Titanfall (360, XBO, PC)
  • Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, NWU, PC)
  • NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC)
  • Minecraft (360)
  • LEGO The Hobbit (360, PS3, One, PS4, 3DS, NWU, PSV)
  • The LEGO Movie Videogame (360, 3DS, PS3, NWU, XBO, PS4, PSV)
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes (360, PS3, NDS, 3DS, PS4, NWU, XBO, PSV, PC)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (PS4, 360, PS3, NWU, 3DS)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
  • Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, NWU, PC)

I'm willing to bet the PS4 will be tops again in May, but after the Xbox One becomes available for $399 in June, the US race will get much more interesting...

Pretty sure Infamous was also announced as the number one selling next-gen piece of software in April. THat's something for us PS-folk to cheer about as well.

Just wish the game was better. Feels like I just keep getting the same 3 powers in every conduit.

I thought it was great. I was far from disappointed with it. Thank goodness it wasn't the total faceplant that was KZ Shadow Fall.

It turned me right off the franchise. I need more power, not less.

I don't know man. Don't know how a person wouldn't like Infamous. It's like not liking pizza or ice cream or something. That's just off.

its not not liking infamous, more like being disappointed with second son.
and after the original how couldnt you be, keeping with the pizza analogy its like you go to a place and they give you an amazing meatlovers pizza, than after 3 months of going there they get new owners and start skimping on the ingredients.
less sometimes is not more.

I haven't had time to scoot around the net, looks like Titanfall is doing... okay across 3 platforms. Do people think it's got staying power?

It's a fun game. Though it tends to get old after a while, just like every other shooter. But with that being said, the first expansion comes out tomorrow, so that'll help draw people that took a break from it, back to it once again.

I take it back. After logging in, it seems it came out today instead. Time to polish up the titan and head back to the battlefield.

I can't speak for World, but I can for City and maybe even the Hood, it's a great game if you're a fan of inFamous. $40 is always better than $60, but it's worth $60 in my opinion.

I'd wait, I preordered and I regret it. The dark and intriguing comic book plot is replaced with a generic PG13 one, the new hero is just an annoying kid and there are a lot fewer powers to be had. Wait for $40.

I think the lower price will lessen the gap but ps4 will still out perform xbox provided they can keep up with demand. Almost every time I go to a store that sells video games, ps4 is still sold out while there are plenty of xbox ones. I don't really think that the only reason for that is the $100. I think most people know which console is better and they are willing to wait.

For a while I was seeing the same thing. Over the past month or two, I have been seeing a couple of PS4's in stock, when I stroll down the gaming isle of a couple of different stores, but there always seems to be more X1 on hand.

I belive that Sony have a joker on their sleave and that E3 leak was conducted by Sony themselfs to show MS that donĀ“t f*** with us and MS freaked out and decided to release Xbox without kinect, but at E3 Sony will blow our mind, cause what have been leaked could be only half of what will be shown.
