Sony Bringing PlayStation To China

Now that China has lifted its 14-year ban on the sale of video game consoles, Sony is looking to get into the market.

After Microsoft announced that they would be bringing the Xbox One to China in September, Sony has revealed that they've partnered with Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group Co Ltd.

The idea is to bring PlayStation consoles to the country, and Sony will own a 70 percent stake in one venture and a 49 percent stake in the other. However, we're not sure if Sony will deliver the PlayStation 4, or they'll create a new machine specifically designed for China. When the console(s) will arrive in China remains to be seen, but at least it's happening. Chinese players should know the greatness of PlayStation, too!

Just bear in mind that even though China is letting games in, there's still plenty of censorship going on. Released games must be "in conformity" with the government, for example, and they've already banned Battlefield 4 for "misleading young people."

That's good news, those people deserve games! I'm sure now we will see a lot of headlines about which games they ban, but hopefully most get through. There are a lot of non-M rated games that are still very good.

It's not about the rating of a game. China is like the U.S. in it's propaganda (except the U.S. is successful enough to allow media), it wants to keep it's citizens in a box and thinking a certain way.

Wouldn't M rated games usually push that envelope?

Nah, World watch some Chinese Cinema plenty is acceptable even some things that would normally be frowned upon here. It is simply the stuff that would perhaps enlighten people about the rest of the world, paint China in a bad image, or possibly inspire citizens to question their government that seems to get banned.

They seem to to be fine with blood, gore, violence, and nudity as long as China is being painted in a good a way.

They need to decide if they wanna be communist or capitalist, it's gonna be hard to keep people from the truth once they learn it.

There will be civil uprising someday, I'm sure. And it will be brutal.

...I hope ninty gets the drop in China before Sony and MS. Considering China has 2.6 billion people there the sales that could go on for a console would be insane. It could easily save Ninty, and further help out Sony.

Highly doubt MS will do well there considering how much the Chinese hate us Americans as well. Especially with all this political bs thats been going on behind the scenes with our current president and the china boss man.

China isn't exactly in love with Japan either, my friend.

Yeah, I think the Chinese may not like the Japanese either, with their bloody history and all.

A number of those surrounding Asian countries don't think highly of Japan. Japan isn't popular in Korea either... North nor South, in fact.

You have to remember the majority of the Chinese population barely gets by week to week.

Considering the economy of the lower and middle classes and the government's involvement in everything, if Sony fails to sell well there I'm sure the Xbox will as well.

If Nintendo gets in that market I think they will sell better than the other two because of the price and game content; banning Mario is kind of difficult, but who knows with those swines at the top.

The successful games there would be MMOs. That and the small indie games would be possible.

I foresee the price of ps4 being too pricey to be a success in the next 3 years. I am expecting Sony to drop PS3 for $149 or PS Vita TV with plenty of indie games/ subscriptions. Maybe that can penetrate the market.

Yep MMOs and F2P games appear to be king in China anything that doesn't require a lump payment and can simply have a little bit of money invested into here and there.
