Sony: The PS4 Will Be Our "Biggest Network Driver"
The best way to push the network business?
Sell more PlayStation 4 units! That's what Sony CEO Kaz Hirai told Reuters, and it makes perfect logical sense.
Sony's hardware business isn't doing well when compared to the competition (Apple, Samsung, etc.), and the company just announced a $1.26 billion loss for the fiscal year. More losses are expected for the current year, as Sony continues to restructure. But in the meantime, they need to go after those install-base numbers. Said Hirai:
"We have to rigorously pursue install-base numbers. The biggest driver for our network business will be the PlayStation 4."
This includes the PlayStation Network as well as other music streaming and video download services. Another service is the upcoming PlayStation Now, which is set to roll out in North America this summer. As of now, Sony's network services have 52 million active users, "most of whom" are PlayStation owners, and Network business sales jumped 70 percent in the past fiscal year.
So yeah, might as well pursue the rosy part of the business, right?
