I'll Just Ask: The Order: 1886 Delay A Result Of Fan Backlash?
Someone had to ask, right?
For the record, I'm sure it's not the sole reason Ready at Dawn delayed The Order: 1886 until 2015. That being said, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that recent negative feedback could've prompted the decision.
I mean, it's a heck of a coincidence. Mere days after we get that new gameplay footage, which resulted in a bevy of backlash and cries of "generic third-person shooter," the game gets pushed back. Of course, the developers aren't going to change the entire gameplay structure, so the third-person mechanic will remain. And nobody is really complaining about the graphics because they look amazing. So, maybe they delayed it so the team could implement a few fresher mechanics, or something...?
Officially, I seriously doubt anybody at Ready at Dawn or Sony will say the fan backlash had any impact on the game's development and production schedule. Unofficially, I wouldn't be surprised if you heard about some internal dissension after that gameplay footage announced. It's hard to miss the negativity surrounding the video (and a few videos before it), so maybe the studio simply opted to make some upgrades/changes.
