I'll Just Ask: The Order: 1886 Delay A Result Of Fan Backlash?

Someone had to ask, right?

For the record, I'm sure it's not the sole reason Ready at Dawn delayed The Order: 1886 until 2015. That being said, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that recent negative feedback could've prompted the decision.

I mean, it's a heck of a coincidence. Mere days after we get that new gameplay footage, which resulted in a bevy of backlash and cries of "generic third-person shooter," the game gets pushed back. Of course, the developers aren't going to change the entire gameplay structure, so the third-person mechanic will remain. And nobody is really complaining about the graphics because they look amazing. So, maybe they delayed it so the team could implement a few fresher mechanics, or something...?

Officially, I seriously doubt anybody at Ready at Dawn or Sony will say the fan backlash had any impact on the game's development and production schedule. Unofficially, I wouldn't be surprised if you heard about some internal dissension after that gameplay footage announced. It's hard to miss the negativity surrounding the video (and a few videos before it), so maybe the studio simply opted to make some upgrades/changes.

Who knows?

I wouldn't be surprised if the reaction made them decide to pick some of the more original ideas that got cut for the release schedule up off of the cutting room floor to be dusted off and implemented. Nothing radical but something to improve the game.

Missing the holidays could hurt it, but not competing with the big multiplats could help it too.

Whatever happens, they need to show something at E3 that creates a wow factor to repair some of the damage.

They need show stuff at E3 that will get people excited for things that will come out *this* year.

But at least it's good to know there will be an avalanche of games in 2015.

Many felt the game wasn't ready for the holidays to begin with. I just hope Sony has something in store for us other than Driveclub and Last of Us Remastered.

Is generic so bad if it plays well, is well executed, has top notch graphics and fluidity, etc?

In my experience, it's not like shooters are well known for not being generic... You can invent new, fancy weapons, new enemies, etc... but it's still going to be a duck 'n cover experience. Especially for a genre who's most popular title is the very definition of "generic".

The decision to delay the game requires meetings with higher ups and countless others on both the developer and publisher side of things.

Making the assumption that a decision like that could be a knee-jerk reaction to a spatter of backlash online and could happen in such a short amount of time is simply flawed thinking.

It has been going on for longer than the recent issue though.

MS will have some serious room to make ground if Sony has nothing this Xmas season.

Yeah probably. Thanks to the loud cry babies they're going to turn it into COD with werewolves. Good job you self entitled little babies, you ruined what could have been a fantastic game!

Nah, just want to tweak some stuff and add to it. Probably give us butt view gears of war style. Cause we all know gears is the best 3rd person shooter ever and uncharted only wishes it was in the same league as it

Well, if we for a moment create in our mind an imaginary stage at E3 where they put a side-by-side playback of the happy-go-lucky sparkling fresh and FUN look of Sunset Overdrive and the damp, grey, railed and low-key atmosphere of The Order, there really is no match. No match at all.

This whole situation of the consoles this new generation is really quite interesting. It just is so insanely different from what we have become used to, on ALL accounts!

Agreed that there's no match, but in a different way. Sunset Overdrive looks like cartoony silly inFamous-for-children fun, which isn't really where people would go for shooting. The Order looks like dark, brooding, supernatural adult cinematic shooting. Closer to The Last of Us and Uncharted.

Although, TLOU was quite colorful. Great landscapes, imo. Not like Enslaved colorful, of course. But still.

We haven't seen much of The Order yet so it may well have more variety and color at places, but honestly, I doubt it. I mean, industrial-age London was really bleak. American friends, look up what the "London Fog" actually was if you don't already know...

TLOU and Uncharted looks far, far more colourful and vivid than this - we talk another division colourful here.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer here, but even the *characters* look grey and dull in this game. And that's not what we can say about the characters in the ND games.

Yeah, I agree with World. Sunset Overdrive does look cartoony and silly, which isn't necessarily bad, but not very interesting, at least to me. The Order, on the other hand, looks a lot more appealing. More of a dark, cinematic and deep experience.

What Telly is saying is true: the fog and the industrial era in London will definitely not make the game look like Disneyland.

Well, too be honest, they did show parts of the game that was pretty basic. And not to mention most, if not all gameplay videoes are in an area which seems too be in a extremely tight corridor. That part was the first thing I noticed and didn't like.
Had Naughty Dog started showing Uncharted in the same way, I wouldn't been that impressed either.

I sure hope this game great, but in my opinion they showed the wrong parts of the game.

Really, REALLY like the setting in this game, so hope I'm wrong.

That's why I think they made a mistake by showing that part. The public is fickle, if you are going to show gameplay to hype it you need to compile some scenes into an exciting trailer showing cool scenes without spoilers playing to great music. You can't just show some boring basic shooting scene.

Yeah. Most of us play those games carefully picking a part the enemy. So you can't run through all crazy/actiony and survive. They should have gone with a montage of high action scenes that really show fluid frames and animation.

I believe they only showed that part to let us in on some gameplay. E3 is soon and why blow their E3 with anything else? Maybe it wasn't the best choice but we went a long time with knowing very little and I believe their intent was to just let us peak through the cracked door. ...until E3.

how could the delay be due to reactions from the trailer, the trailer which released only DAYS ago!
you do realise decisions like this are not made by a single person while eating dinner with his family one night!
if it was delayed to change a few things they wouldnt of announced it for quite a while still.

That's a really good question -- and yeah, I have to think it played into it a bit. If everyone was stoked at what was shown, I have to think they were REALLY hoping to get this out in time for the holidays. Let's see what they announce at E3 but at the moment, looks completely barren in terms of third party exclusives (oh, we do get Driveclub, whoop-dee-doo :)
