Evidence That Destiny May Go Next-Gen

Bungie's Destiny is making a lot of headlines as of late, and we know it's coming to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

But is it also headed to next-generation platforms? According to Nintendo Life, the "shared world" FPS might release on the PS4, Xbox 720, PC, Wii U, and even PlayStation Vita.

All those platforms were listed on the developer's pre-order page, despite the fact that Destiny is only officially confirmed for PS3 and 360. There's always the possibility that those other platforms are merely placeholders, but Activision did say that Bungie's next-generation game engine would allow the title to be available on "other future console platforms." So maybe it will happen. And if the game does become one of the first next-gen titles available, it could really take advantage of the extra power in that new hardware.

Personally, my interest in Destiny barely registers, mainly because it just sounds like an MMO. But I am very aware that it could also be an important title for the industry.

I guess he probably has to read articles from all media sources to form an objective opinion, but I agree it is an odd and unexpected place to hear he read this news from.

If you find a roach in your food, you don't throw it out. You eat it. More protein value in your plate doesn't hurt.

Haha - what, you're not interested in an always-online, always-social experience Ben? ;). Destiny looks like it has a lot of potential, but a lot will rest upon it's network implementation, and we won't know what that's like until it's up and running. I'd say it'd be a good title to wait until next gen to play.

Then you should go re-read the previews. Like I mentioned in the other post, it can be played Solo as well. People complainnig about always on connections, seriously, games like Diablo 3 have this....

I seriously don't understand how people aren't interested in this, everyone has been going off about the FPS genre not evolving or people not doing anything different with it, then someone does, and no one wants to know? As a gamer, I am really intrigued by the idea of Destiny, and think it could be amazing if they can pull off their vision.

Aye, and Diablo is more painful to play because of it - if your internet or Blizzard's servers are down, then you've got to play something else. That's why people are complaining about always-on connections, because neither the publishers nor the infrastructure can deliver the required level of service consistently enough to provide a comparable experience with games that allow offline only play. Diablo III's always-on requirement was a gift for Torchlight II ;).

at first, i didn't like the idea of, "always" connected"
but 90% of the time when i'm playing games whether
they're sp only or sp/mp games, i'm always signed into psn.

Just an FYI....

According to Kotaku(today)...

Activision reminded us this morning that Bungie's Destiny is not launching this year, despite retail listings.

Thanks bigrailer,
Yeah, I'm actually shocked that Verizon hasn't dropped the banhammer down on my internet & phone yet.

I'm not complaining, but it still sucks knowing that at any possible moment, my net & phone usage will become history(and probably at the worst possible moment too, while the County has put me on hold for another damned 20-30 call on the phone while I'm actually trying to get temporary help from them too).

I really feel bad for Zipper Interactive. I feel the same way - that this is an MMOFPS. And sure I may really enjoy it. But If this turns out like an MMOFPS it has been done and Bungie is acting like they are building new trails. Now I may be jumping the gun, it could be revolutionary. But really my worry is that MAG did a lot and if Destiny accomplishes nothing more, it would be really unfair the way MAG was treated.

With that said I am actually really looking forward to this game. As I was with MAG!
