Batman: Arkham Knight Pushed Into 2015

This delay is gonna hurt a little, especially if you're a big fan of the Caped Crusader.

Warner Bros. has announced that Batman: Arkham Knight has been delayed until 2015. They didn't give us an estimated launch window, unfortunately.

As for why developer Rocksteady is forced to push it back, marketing manager Guy Perkins told GameSpot that they just want to make the best game possible:

"We just want to make this the best experience that we can, and that takes time. We feel that we have an absolutely awesome game in the works, and we want to make it as great as it possibly can be. We just need more time to do that. If we didn't give the team more time to do it, then we would be releasing something that we weren't happy with. We want to make sure we're absolutely nailing it 100 percent."

Perkins clarified that the team's full vision for the new Batman just wouldn't have worked on last-gen hardware, as he cited the Batmobile and character models as factors that weren't possible on the PS3 or Xbox 360. We've seen some amazingly impressive footage already and we'd have to agree that yeah, you really can't do that on the older systems. Added Perkins:

"Having these current-gen platforms [Xbox One and PS4] allows us to really flex our muscles in terms of art and animation, and we're building everything to make it look as good as it possibly can. The beauty is our engine team can now say yes to our artists; before they were always struggling with what they have available. But now it's more a case of, 'What can't we do?' and, 'Where can we push it even harder?'"

We did, however, get a new Batmobile Trailer, so we can take solace in this:

This was the only game that i am looking forward to in 2014. Looks like PS4 will be a really dry year for me.

Something tells me that this delay has to do with Microsoft's under performing sales, so Rocksteady had to delay it until a higher install base is here.

or that the new cod is releasing a few weeks after this games original release date therefore they dont want the thunder to be taken away.

I would not doubt that, but its still on the game developer. This game was not delayed for improvement obviously. They have been working on it for four years already.

With all the delays I'm starting to wonder why I bothered jumping to next gen already. I'm loving Infamous Second Son but it's not going to tide me over till 2015. This is sad news because I was truly excited for Arkham Knight and kept saying "this is why I got a PS4" every time I see new info! I kind of wonder if the delay is so they can get the Xbox One close to par with the PS4. Or is that being too biased?

I think that it's par the course. It's new tech, first of all. I know it's easier to develop for, but it's still new. I would imagine you're bound to hit a few unexpected snags.

Also, while there's pressure to get something out, I think there's even more to make sure you don't release a pile of poo when with such few number of games, your title is what they'll talk about.

Everyone is delaying releases, and it's not uncommon for AAA titles to historically have a delay or two. The first year of PS1, PS2, and PS3 weren't so hot either, afterall.

@Underdog15
Can't really remember PS1, but PS2 had DMC, Onimusha, Ico, GTA3, FF10, Jak $ Daxter, MGS2, Rayman, Red Faction and a host of other games released its first year. So you are wrong.

PS3 had Resistance, Motostorm, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ridge Racer, Folklore, Ratchet & Clank TOD and Warhawk its first year.

That was also a good variety of games to play. AAA means nothing as we just want to play games. This game will be no better next year than it would be this year.

I got to keep my PS3 hooked up because of crap like this. All of these companies complained about generation fatigue and this is what they do or they make the games cross generation.

Off the top of my head PS1 had Resi Evil, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Loaded, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Ace Combat and WipeOut. So, yeah, he's pretty off on his "this is how it always is!" defense. And these, and those you listed, were generation exclusive.

First thing I thought too was that the Xbox One version might be part of the reason for the delay. Of course, that's just speculation and in the end the real reason why doesn't matter, the is the game is delayed and that sucks.

Darth, almost all those PS2 titles were not year 1 releases. A simple google search will show you lots of internet outcry about "no games" in the first years of PS2 and PS3. Internet wasn't as huge at PS1 release, so I couldn't find anything there in terms of popular opinion.

Same thing for kid about PS1, though. Most of those were not year 1 releases.

Next time you guys decide to try to prove me wrong, please look up your info first. Have a little faith, guys. I won't letcha down. And I don't usually say anything in threads I don't know anything/much about.

*first year of PS2. Didn't mean to put on the 'S'. Games started coming out in droves after the first year came and went.

Wasn't expecting this. Too many delays lately. Not the greatest time to be a next-gen adopter.

I haven't gotten a PS4 because I did expect this sort of thing to happen. It happened the last bunch of generations, I don't see why it wouldn't happen again.

I guess I wasn't paying that much attention to previous generations. Or maybe it's because gaming news (or news in general) has had a tremendous increase in the last years.

Yeah, that's definitely true!

I remember PS2 clearly because a friend of mine got one at release and complained pretty much every day about there being nothing out yet. Things finally started to release around the 1 year anniversary. He wanted FFX badly, but that didn't release until year 2.

I bought a PS3 at release... that's how I remember that one... I played PS2 for like a year and a half almost exclusively after I bought my PS3... I dove in occasionally for Resistance, but didn't get back into the system until Uncharted.

I suppose 2014 was destined to be a pretty slow, uninspiring year for games after 2013 was the best in personal memory. Really looking forward to next year, though. Between the games that have been announced for 2015, delayed into it and just yet been made public yet, it's going to be a bloody monster year.

I will be buying this game, like MGS5 when it is $30 bucks or it hits PS+. They made a mistake with this delay, especially after lying last week that it was not delayed. Not cool at all.

The game would've been a huge seller if Rocksteady hadn't dropped the ball, especially with how dry this holiday season is. I hope with all the competition next year this game doesn't get half the sales it could've. No reason why with a three year development cycle this shouldn't have been done, especially when it's the only game Rocksteady is working on. 'We need more time' bs. At least with MGS 5: The Phantom Pain, there has never really been any timeframe for a release date. Kojima said something along the lines of it will be out when there are a lot of PS4s in homes.

I`m getting tired of this to be frank. It all looks and feels like they doing this just build hype for the game.

I mean, they JUST announced the game!

1. Announce game.
2. "Delay" the game.
3. Build hype - hence more sale.
4. Release.

Or am I just sillywilly thinking this?

sigh.
seriously, now, whats left?
really starting to think im going to have nothing to play but sunset overdrive come the end of the year!
yes first years of new consoles is always slow, but not THIS slow!
even more worrying when $ony keeps blowing out oh we showed off the ps4 to developers WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY early!
right, so if it developers had access to it so early, why such a drought of games!?
