PS4 To Ship In November At $430?

While sources say it's "unlikely" that Sony will announce exact pricing and dates for the PlayStation 4 during today's upcoming press event, the rumors continue to circulate at a rapid clip.

The latest comes from a tipster speaking to Kotaku, and it seems the PS4 will launch in November with an odd starting price of $430. A second model will be available at $530, but the source says these prices aren't exactly "set in stone."

Furthermore, another new piece of information: Supposedly, gamers will be able to control the PS4 remotely via tablet or smartphone. We'll even be able to chat with friends and buy games through their devices, if this particular detail rings true. Additionally, it appears Sony will change the name of their premium subscription service from PlayStation Plus to PlayStation World. Do you like that name better?

Lastly, the PS4 is expected to ship with a PlayStation Eye and a "new spectating feature" that lets gamers watch friends play games from their dashboard, and it doesn't matter if they own the game their friend is playing. Yeah, well, I'm sorry, but that's just a little creepy.

If that "smartphone/tablet" could be the Vita it would be the bomb. Also, I know this is a very VERY long shot. But, Sony should be able to release games with the same format as the Wii U where you can use the Vita for extra stuff, Not much mind you but something subtle that would make us early Vita adopters feel more special about our purchases. Since there doesn't really seem to be that many games coming to it.

Why do that, just download the game from the PSN or "PS World". That would be pointless and I dont think its an essential necessity based on limited HDD space and the re-sell market already hurting developers.

it wont be a piracy issue though, there were tons of rumors ages ago saying you would be able to do exactly this, purchase a game and register it to your SEN account and that account will be able to download the game and you no longer need the disk.
than when you sell the game the RFID (radiofrequency identification) tag will detect the disk is being used on a different console, and lock this feature out.
that way returning the game wont work because stores will be able to check out on this, and if its locked out they will contact you and say hey you locked this to your account so you cant return it only trade it.
only problem i can see this causing that will be hard to fix is how many consoles you can have a account linked to.
if your able to link your SEN account to multiple consoles, than people will abuse that and buy a game, than give their details to a friend so said friend can play the game free of charge.
solution restrict activated consoles to a maximum of 2 per account, yea its a pain in the a$$ if you have to constantly activate/ deactivate a console, but thats a price you will have to pay if you want the feature.

First, NO! Second, I can see it now you buy it install it (which locks the disc to your system) then sell it. Someone that buys the disc gets it home and no game for them. Yeah that will work.

Also if you have the disc your ass is so lazy to get up and change the disc out? Really? Wow. I dont have time to wait for games to finish their 10+GB downloads much less have to wait for the game to install that much data.

Give me a break. Discs will ALWAYS be better (at least in my opinion.)

Not sure everyone is looking at this feature right...

Turn that around and it becomes "a 'new spectating feature' that let's you share your game play with your friends allowing them to watch you beat their high score from their dashboard - whether they own the game or not. Stream game play to your friends and show them how it's done!"

It's all about the perspective. I know a lot of people that live stream gameplay on PCs online, I don't personally understand why, nor do I have a desire to watch it, but some do. Each to their own, but I don't think this is creepy, it's not like you'll be able to silently drop in on your friends and watch them play without them knowing.

Yeah I totally agree - just picture a scenario where a buddy asks, "hey how is that game?" and you go, "hook up and I'll show you". All while you chat via the cross game chat feature.

This is not a bad feature at all - in fact I love it!

Umm, they don't specifically mention anything about spectating "gameplay". Right after talk of the PS Eye (in the same sentence) is the talk about spectating, "new spectating feature will let you watch other friends play games" (Kotaku's words). Sounds like you just watch someone sitting on their sofa playing a game via their PS Eye! Now THAT'S creepy. But I guess those people that are into chat roulette would get a kick out of it.

Okay, so I'm kidding, surely they don't actually intend that, but there is a little voice at the back of my mind that says "don't be so sure". In an age of social connectivity, where so many people knowingly and freely publicize so much about their personal life online (via facebook, twitter, foursquare) for anyone to see, it wouldn't surprise me.

I know these new features seems like a let down and a departure from hardcore gaming but it does sound mildly intriguing to me. Sony has a habit of pushing the boundaries and putting forth new innovative tech and ideas but not following through properly on some ideas. (remote play)
I say if they're doing this, bring it on But give it their all

Well ill be honest many times I had wished I coukd access my friends list from my phone. Why I have no idea. But now I think this whole thing about controlling the PS4 remotely is just whack. I mean I dont know how it would work, but it just seems redundant.

I'm thinking it would be handy to watch your friends play games you don't own, then you can figure out if you want to buy them or not if there's no demo.

By the way, is there going to be a good place to watch sony's big press release or are they just releasing a statement online or what?

I just hope that Australians wont be overcharged regarding the price of PS4. PS3 cost $1000 dollars when it came out here, despite the fact that our exchange rate was on par with the Americans'!

Around the year 2000 the Australian dollar was buying 50 American cents. The dollar was weak and it was fair that we had to pay much more for consumer electronics than people from other countries. Since then the Australian dollar has steadily risen to be on par with that of the American dollar. My guess is that sellers of consumer electronics hoped that no one would complain about having to pay so much after this had occurred, but now people have started to complain.

There is also an issue with subjecting the prices of consumer electronics to the volatility of the exchange rate. If the rate were to plummet, sellers would have to increase their prices and this would lead to rebellion.

Recently Apple and Microsoft have had to issue statements to the Parliament of Australia explaining why Australians have to pay so much. They gave some lame excuses like "it costs different because the region is different", etc. They are to be summoned to the Parliament sometime in March. We shall see what happens.

kokoro, you're explaining two different times, when the PS3 was released in Australia (early 2007?), your dollar was still far from par with the US dollar (I looked it up), today it's a different story. Plus Australia may have (or have had) higher import duties/tariffs goods produced in certain countries than the US did/does. Then it depends if a VAT or sales tax (if applicable) is included in the retail price or added on a checkout. Plus the actual cost of doing business in Australia could be higher than in the US (smaller population density).

All I want is a gaming system. I dont want all this mumbo jumbo. All Sony is doing is adding a ton of crap to charge you more.

450 bucks for this crap? Not a chance. But this is how smart Sony is. They will continue making money off of the price drop on the PS3 and charge the hell out of the PS4 for the early dummies who will actually pay that kind of money for a game system.

Then, eventually, they will lower the price of the ps4 as they try to weed out the ps3. So tired of this crap.

You aren't thinking clearly. All these options are bonus material. The PS4 will rock gaming hard. Sony has never turned it's back on the hardcore gamer. There's no reason for Sony not to offer more. This will increase the install base and give Sony more money which means more awesome games. Nvidia is releasing the GTX Titan for $1000 so, yeah there you go. A 10 year life span PS4 for $429/$529 is very much worth it.

This video stream feature to buddies is a tremendous idea! Another great feature for a gaming console.
So we got this, and that 15 minute replay video feature (hopefully), what else will we get? Can't wait to hear more!

Cause these are both features directly related to gameplay. This is a box that is focused on the GAMES and making the best out of the gaming experiences. Create action videos, share awesome gaming moments, what's NOT to like here?

What do you guys want? A gimped, dumb box that's just sitting there idle, fumbling with it's low brows? That'd be Dead On Arrival.

I really, really dig what I've heard so far! This is Sony focusing on making a GAMING device for today and tomorrow. Makin' daddy proud!

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I just hope this whole playstation world stuff is everything but online gaming and the ability to download demos. Those are personally two things that I think should be kept free.

no not at all, it has to get core games, ND, QD, PD, GG, SP, ect, ect, ect are not going to go creating casual only games!
im worried its going to be what the wiiu is, a wii 1.5 rather than a wii 2.
this is by far the longest generation of consoles, so if anything the gap between the ps3 and 4 technology wise should be larger than previous.
but if anything its going to be less, FAR less!
thats what worries me.
games will be fine, what those games are able to do and use is what worries me.

Now I am confused. What do you mean by "what the games are able to do and use?" Well, whatever you mean by that, I don't see how these features can affect the actual games or console for that matter. I don't think you'd have to worry about core games not sticking to their roots, unless you're talking about SE and Final Fantasy. Other than that, it's not like games such as Uncharted, Killzone, Gran Turismo, Infamous, etc. are going to be like facebook games or something.

I like the idea of renaming psn or psplus to psworld, cause it can mean that region restrictions will be flushed away and psworld users can download and buy content without region limitations what we have now.

Does anyone know what time the announcement is supposed to go down? Or if they even said what time. o.O?

I'm wondering if they will be livestreaming it on the PSBlog, which I think they will. Would not make much sense if they didn't though.

Note: Maybe they will announce sometime later that you can rename your Online ID without erasing stuff etc. I have been wanting to rename my account but I don't want to restart everything.

People who complain about social or home networking features are daft. The next playstation needs these features. I've been home networking for a couple years now, and the ps3 can function on home networking, but it's clumsy and lacks features even modern blu ray and receivers have.

So long as the games also advance, and they will, I'm happy.

These added features are necessary. Without them, ps4 would lose the next generation by a large margin.

Hmm $430 bucks..To me that sounds like $399 for the core console and $499 for the superior one. I'm game for that...I'm not too worried about the features..I may or may not use them.

I don't like the name Playstation World though. I'd rather them keep the Playstation Plus name.

The spectating feature sounds AWESOME!

I could really get into that. It would be really cool if you could do it picture in picture style. Then you can play your game while chatting with a friend and have their game up in the corner or something. Like a cross-game chat/ spectatin' mode kinda thing.
