Everyone Ready For Another Round Of Battlefield vs. CoD?
Okay, now we've got the dates...does this mean Round 1 has already begun?
Once again, the holiday season will play host to an epic shooter duel: Call of Duty vs. Battlefield. This year, it's Battlefield: Hardline (October 21) throwing down against Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (November 4) and for now, nobody is willing to predict a winner.
I'm talking quality-wise, of course. There's little chance the new Battlefield will outsell the new CoD; that just doesn't seem possible based on past numbers. What I'm more interested in is the following: Which will earn better review scores? Which will be better received by gamers overall? Which has the best chance at earning FPS of the Year honors? Will either actually be good enough to be considered for overall Game of the Year in 2014? And if so, which one?
All we've got so far is a couple of trailers and not much gameplay, so it's impossible to say right now which title has the edge. However, I will say this: Both franchises have a lot to prove this time around; BF4 was riddled with technical issues and I don't care what EA says, because that definitely hurt the franchise. Last year's Ghosts was the lowest-scoring CoD we've seen since Call of Duty 3 at the start of the previous generation and in general, critics and gamers were calling for an evolutionary overhaul (ala Modern Warfare).
What's your take on the issue?
