Everyone Ready For Another Round Of Battlefield vs. CoD?

Okay, now we've got the dates...does this mean Round 1 has already begun?

Once again, the holiday season will play host to an epic shooter duel: Call of Duty vs. Battlefield. This year, it's Battlefield: Hardline (October 21) throwing down against Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (November 4) and for now, nobody is willing to predict a winner.

I'm talking quality-wise, of course. There's little chance the new Battlefield will outsell the new CoD; that just doesn't seem possible based on past numbers. What I'm more interested in is the following: Which will earn better review scores? Which will be better received by gamers overall? Which has the best chance at earning FPS of the Year honors? Will either actually be good enough to be considered for overall Game of the Year in 2014? And if so, which one?

All we've got so far is a couple of trailers and not much gameplay, so it's impossible to say right now which title has the edge. However, I will say this: Both franchises have a lot to prove this time around; BF4 was riddled with technical issues and I don't care what EA says, because that definitely hurt the franchise. Last year's Ghosts was the lowest-scoring CoD we've seen since Call of Duty 3 at the start of the previous generation and in general, critics and gamers were calling for an evolutionary overhaul (ala Modern Warfare).

What's your take on the issue?

Both franchises are tired and lame and, in the case of Battlefield, a bug ridden mess. I find it impossible to care about either, other than wishing they'd go away.

Eh, both can go rot away in an alleyway for all I care. They won't be the biggest games for long anymore.

Im pretty interested in this new Battlefield, I'm an old counter strike vet, so I can't resist the new setting!

I predict Far Cry 4 is going to beat both... And I'm going to remain fundamentally uninterested in all three :)

No way, CoD will still rule.

Godslim,
Nah, I'll hate on Killzone all the same. FPSs are just not my forte, unless it's Bioshock, Portal or Resistance.

Killa,
RE: the beating. I was talking about the questions that Ben asked in the third paragraph about review scores, reception, and accolades.

I actually dig FPS games, Godslim, but CoD and Battlefield are just way too long in the tooth. I'll take Borderlands or Far Cry or Evolve over these tired rehashes.

I'm really interested in the fact that visceral will be doing BF:HL this time! I hope they bring something fresh to the series and the new setting to me looks pretty freaking fun!!! The bank robberies and car chases look in mp look like a lot of fun! I've given up on COD. I really couldn't care less if i never saw another COD again. Honestly, I'm pretty sure shooter of the year will go to Destiny or Far Cry 4 though.

yeah idk this time i'm willing to just say Battlefield cos well after BF4 they kinda lost me. i mean every COD up to MW3 was no where near BF3 that game was FPS masterpiece for it's time. now battlefield has a ways to go to repair the battlefields brands rep(PR) amung us core gamers bf4 was total garbage i bored with this game so fast carpared to bf3 i was amazed i was like i cudn't careless and i was like wow that i didn't really want to play battlefield with bf4 anyways thats why i am worried cos EA might rush this one too and put another shooty piece of garbage.

happy gaming =)
