E3 2014: PlayStation TV Heads West This Fall, Costs $99
When it originally debuted in Japan, Sony wouldn't confirm it for Western territories.
But as announced at their E3 press conference, PlayStation TV is now headed to North America, Europe and the PAL region this fall. It will come in the standard black color (as opposed to the white we've been seeing since it was unveiled), and the retail price will be $99 for the standalone system.
To further entice consumers, Sony will release a special bundle in North America: This will feature The LEGO Movie Videogame, a DualShock 3 controller, an 8GB memory card, and PSTV for $139.99. PlayStation TV is little, coming in at only 6.5cm x 10.5cm, which makes it the smallest of all PlayStation consoles, and it supports Remote Play, wireless controllers for the PS3 and PS4, and even the upcoming streaming service, PlayStation Now.
The idea is that you can play any number of games in the PlayStation library with this little unit. When hooked up to your TV, you can play everything from the oldest PS classics to the latest and greatest. Obviously, it operates via streaming and not physical software, although it can play Vita cartridges. Flexibility and ease of use is a big trend these days, yes?
