E3 Gameplay Footage For The Order Is All Sorts Of Tasty

Say what you want about it being "just another third-person shooter."

Not every game has to be innovative, and not every game has to break a certain mold. Based on what we've seen of The Order: 1886 thus far, there's really no reason to believe it won't be a great game.

Here's a look at some new gameplay footage shown at E3, and it highlights the third-person combat and a few of the story-related segments. The game appears to move fluidly and the animations are crisp. Don't forget that the narrative has a lot of potential, too, as the setting, atmosphere and characters could all be immensely intriguing. If everything goes well, this could end up being the Uncharted for a new generation. No joke.

Check it out:

Thanks, Zak!

I thought the e3 trailer was one of the best Sony showed at the conference, but I couldn't help getting pissed off at the stupidity of the guy walking through the tunnels, seeing a flesh-eating monster munching away and standing there forever staring at him & observing him, and then getting all shocked & panicky when the monster notices him and starts following him, it's just a little too c-horror-movie-stupid IMHO for this kind of game...

Then the monster tosses him away over to the other room, and then for some reason leaves him alone for a good time enough for the poor hero to heal himself and somehow poor monster then comes jumping in and doesn't know where hero-guy is that he just tossed in there himself...

Oh well, doesn't mean it won't be a cool game when it's all done but seriously why do this stupid stuff? There are a million better ways they could've kept it more realistic & still kept the suspense going...

I don't think it's that bad, we're clearly missing a scene after he gets tossed and you might not immediately shoot a ghoul while illuminating it by bullseye lamp, as a knight he may wait a bit to see what it's up to first.

The time dilation thing seems fitting, even if we've seen it in titles like Max Payne and Vanquish.

That feature is common and often very awesome, but it's definitely time to get more imaginative with it.

What in the world is the guy on steroids doing with his controller?

Anyway, I get the feeling the whole angry gamer community is ready to pounce on this for being linear. As if that was a bad thing somehow.

I don't know. Are they though? It seems there's a growing voice for linear design's defense. Like TLoU has mostly praise, right?

but so it's known, I hang here and Dualshockers so that's all I know by way of gamer voices ;)

It's just a feeling, I think TLoU sorta took everyone by surprise. The Order is gonna get a lot of scrutiny for being a next gen only title and freedom is all the rage these days.

The E3 video made the game look like it wanted to be another Resident Evil style game. That alone turned away any interest I did have in the game.

Still not feeling it.
The graphics - from a technical point of view - looks decent enough, but aesthetically it looks grey and uninspiring. Not that I think every single scene will be in a city like this, but still, it's all I've seen so far.

The gameplay too looks very repetitive and, well, dare I say it; old fashioned, uninnovative.

Time will show if I am horribly mistaken, but I do not see a console seller here.

Unfortunately, I don't think they had Sherwin-Williams, Home Depot, or gay pride flags in the 1800's so.... I think browns, grays, and whites are probably spot on for that era. ;)

I don't think the greyness will be much of a problem, it's part of an otherwise imaginative world. Dishonored had a similar vibe.

I was very impressed with the gameplay video. I think the game looks fantastic and the fact it's a TPS, not a FPS is something that has me stoked. If the games controls are tight and it controls well I have no problem with lack of innovation.

If you make a third person shooter make sure you set out too make the best TPS on the market.
