Tekken Goes Next-Gen, Will Utilize The Unreal Engine 4

Yup, another Tekken is coming.

Various sources have reported that during the EVO 2014 fighting competition, Tekken 7 was announced. The logo flashed on one of the projection monitors at the event, and then IGN posted this AOL video.

The latest installment will take advantage of the Unreal Engine 4, and series executive producer and game director Katsuhiro Harada has said they can "rapidly achieve visual quality expected on next-gen platforms and go beyond it." He heaps more praise upon the engine, saying it's powerful and easy to use, and lets them put Tekken 7 "on any platform we desire." Publisher Bandai Namco hasn't issued an official date, nor do we know the confirmed platforms, but that information should arrive soon.

There was a time early on during the previous generation when I thought the fighting genre was done. ...I was wrong.

Yes!

I'm a huge Tekken fan. Been a Tekken fan since Tekken 2 (just bought Tekken 2 on my PS3 for $0.99 on Saturday) so I've been waiting for the latest installment. Getting tired of Tekken Revolution and all the hackers, glitchers, laggers and spammers.

Let's hope Tekken 7 is the best installment in the franchise yet.

ME too! I started with Tekken 2. It was the first game I ever owned on my very first console, the PS1, back when I was 8 years old.

My favourite is probably 3. I also quite liked 4, much to the disapproval of fellow tekken fans.

TTT 2 went overboard with the juggling. All people do online is spam low blows that lead to juggles. It's become ridiculous. I hope they shake things up with 7.

yea, Kokoro, I've never been a big Tag fan. The game dynamic plays too much in favor of spazzing out on massive chain juggles. I'm pleased this is a stand alone Tekken sequel. After the softer response to Tekken 6 and the F2P Tekken Revolution I was getting worried we had seen the last of the traditional 1vs1 tekken games.
