Killzone: Shadow Fall Confirmed As A Launch Title For PS4

We saw a lot of games during Sony's unveiling of the PlayStation 4, but only one - Sony Japan's Knack - was actually confirmed as being a launch title.

We'd certainly like to assume that other games, like DriveClub and inFamous: Second Son, will be launch software as well. Those haven't been set in stone yet, but a very important one has: Killzone: Shadow Fall.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla's latest will indeed be available the instant the PS4 hits the market. Said senior producer Steven Ter Heide:

"It has been an amazing journey for us so far, being offered the opportunity to be a launch title for the new PlayStation, and the subsequent mild panic to figure out how to best handle all of that."

The setting is 30 years after the events of Killzone 3 and we'll be playing as an all-new hero. If you missed the nearly 8-minute gameplay presentation from the PlayStation Meeting, it's below...and it's all sorts of tasty. Can you imagine having Killzone: Shadow Fall and inFamous: Second Son as launch titles...? Hell, I'll take that. Maybe toss in Uncharted 4 to make it the bestest launch lineup in history.

I am just glad people can stop asking if what we saw was real in engine gameplay. When they played it on Jimmy Fallon, they were horrible at playing it. Like looking at the ceiling for a minute.

They played Killzone SF on Jimmy Fallon? Do you mean Uncharted 3? I remember Jimmy playing and being absolutely terrible. He does a great Jim Morrison impersonation though ;-)

I'm glad this is a launch title. But the game better fill me in properly about what happened the last 30 years. Given the way Killzone 3 ended I was waiting to see a certain somebody return in the next Killzone game..

I was wondering if this title was really a "Killzone 4". The way that Killzone 3 ended it seemed like Killzone 4 would start up right where #3 ended off.

Yea im not sure about that either. KZ3 did end rather abruptly. Like you said hopefully theres some good filler in there.

As much as I want Uncharted 4 as a launch title, KZ and inFamous alone would make a strong case as best launch line-up ever.

This KZ looks a lot better thab the others so far. I really liked seeing a more futuristic gun, rather than a carbine type gun, or the usual automatic weaponry. Because there wasn't a lot of that in KZ3 and even less in KZ2. Thats kind of what made Resistance so awesome were the weapons. So many different types of ammunition. Although I would never say KZ had a lack of weaponry. I would just like to see some MORE unusual stuff.

I'm not the biggest KZ fan, but I gotta admit that this game looks to be an awesome kickstart of the new console.

But my #1 is Watch Dogs, no doubt, with the new Infamous firmly placed on #2.

Either way, it's three damn strong titles.

Ben you just made my day! I was so hoping KZSF would be a launch title. I almost assumed but didn't want to make that mistake. I am happy with Knack and KZSF for launch as I won't be able to afford anymore than 2 games with the console and extra controller purchases. inFamous Second Son would be welcome too for a few weeks or month later. But if Uncharted 4 is a launch title then that takes precedence over all others!

I like the new color palette. I was a little taken aback that Killzone and inFamous are jumping off of their numbered entries though, I hope we can still expect those to continue. Maybe the future will be in multiple spin-off universes to recoup some big dev costs, which is fine by me, Kojima already expressed interest in doing a "The Boss" prequel in World War II.

The ps4 is definitely a d1p for any great news like this makes me incline to by two! Ben i thought i read somewhere that Watch Dogs was also going to be a launch title and also a timed exclusive. Has anyone heard the same?

I liked how in the silly Jimmy F comedy show that the GG director attributed the more open levels to the massive increase in RAM. Citing that he could climb up building sides and flank the enemy from the sides as a result of the memory (this can be interpretted many ways, but the point is that what ordinarily would've been kept tunneled, now isn't). This is a nice and welcome change to the more ordinary corridor feel of KZ3.

I already established that I'd be getting the PS4 on day one, but this is the icing on the cake! So far, the lineup (not necessarily just day one) that we know for the PS4 is looking extremely impressive! Take my money now, Sony!

I just saw a youtube video of Jimmy playing it. Man he's horrible and Anthony Anderson was worse!! You cant kill guys by shooting the air conditioners and screaming at the screen lol

Day one purchase. I just hope the hard drive is user replaceable. The spec sheet just says "HDD Installed". Makes me wonder if their going the MS route. Outrageous price for an upgrade. I paid $54 for a 1TB HDD in my PS3,(pre flood prices). I hope I can do the same, if needed, in my PS4.
One more thing. Watch Dogs is $99 on Amazon.

Wii U games had a placeholder price of $99 on Amazon too, and someone at Sony already mentioned the $60 price tag for PS4 games in an interview. I actually read about that on this site, search for the article.
