Custom "GayStation PS4" Up For Auction

This is bound to be a sensitive topic but hey, someone out there will snag a one-of-a-kind PlayStation 4.

As reported by CVG, an auction has begun for a very interesting custom PS4; you can check it out at Tradera.

It's a special "GayStation Edition" designed to support the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights (RFSL). There are now over 100 bids and the total amount has gone over 18,600 (you can do the conversion if you wish). Here's a post from the auction:

"For many young people, the world of games will become a refuge to escape the taunting or worse of real life. On Webhallen, we are gamers in heart and mind, and are keen that as many as possible have the opportunity to feel welcome and enjoy the world's largest and fastest growing interest: video games."

The post ends with the hashtag, "thisisforthegaymers." We're not about to jump into that minefield, but we reserve the right to say that it's a pretty system. And yeah, we could all use more colors for our gaming hardware!

Is anyone at PSXE gay? More than likely. Since all we talk about is games, though, I fail to see in what forum it would actually come up and matter.

Naw being called gay isn't mean, and seriously I'm pretty sure LV is bisexual. Not that it's our business. :)

Ha, cool. I guess. Gaystation though? Sounds about as far as an xbox fanboys insult goes.

Yeah, that brought back memories from like 2 generations ago.

GayStation, GayCube and the Lunchbox.

Now trolls will need to find new ways to insult people. ;)

I always thought "queer" in reference to homosexuals was a derogatory term.

Queer is the Q in "LGBT2Q".

Queer is anyone who doesn't really fit with stereotypes, they may be metrosexual(effeminate men), bisexual, lesbian, gay, transgendered, gender-queer (not specifically conforming to one gender) just about anyone who isn't straight can call themselves queer.

Basically, it used to be derogatory, but now it's a term that has been embraced and reclaimed by the LGBT2Q community as a symbol of pride, representing all individuals who fall out of the gender and sexuality “norms”.

It could be, I guess. I only have one source, that being the dude that did the training I had to attend. It was his own training, so it's not like it's some big organization's official thing.

Reckon it's great that we've come far enough that something like this is happening. Have no doubt it'll rub some up the wrong way, but it's a sign things are moving forward in terms of accepting all people, regardless of sexual orientation :). We've still got a ways to go, of course, but I doubt this would've happened with the PSX.
