Naughty Dog: Uncharted 4 Won't Adopt TLoU's Dark Tone
The Last Of Us is awfully dark. And the teaser trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is kinda dark, too.
But don't think developer Naughty Dog is stuck in a gritty rut. Despite what you might think, the developer wants to make it plain: Uncharted is a different franchise and won't adopt the tone in TLoU. As Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells told Eurogamer:
"Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons. I don't think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We'd alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we've learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted - in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct."
It's nice to see a developer that truly understands its fans, and realizes that not every game they make will appeal to the same demographic/audience. Personally, I would hate a darker tone in Uncharted; that's a brighter, more free-wheeling action/adventure series as compared to The Last Of Us. Adopting that somber TLoU tone for the next Drake quest wouldn't go over well.
