PSXE Poll Update: Most PS Fans Not Interested In Wii U

We've said in the past that Nintendo's Wii U might be the perfect companion to the PlayStation 4.

Clearly, though, most of our readers don't agree. According to the results of our latest poll, the overwhelming majority say they don't own a Wii U, and they don't plan to own one any time soon, either.

Despite Nintendo's comeback in Japan (and other parts of the world, to a lesser extent), the Wii U hasn't won over everyone. We saw several great games at E3 but obviously, our readers are going to need more incentive. Perhaps the biggest problem is that a high-def version of the Wii just isn't cutting it, especially when compared to the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles. A general lack of software doesn't help, either.

But speaking of the Xbox One, what about that console? Do you own it? If not, do you plan to get it at some point? Or is it just as unappealing as the Wii U? It'll be interesting to see the results because if the majority dismisses the Xbox One, this means most of PSXE readers have decided to stick with the PS4. Not a lot of multi-console owners this time around, huh?

Sony won in my books because it opens up the doors to their exclusives... That I care about. I really don't understand why anyone would invest in a xbox instead of their current PC (where it's applicable). A lot of people are running various trims of gaming capable AMD/Intel CPU/APU that just need a gpu companion, ram, and a DS3/4 driver/emulator. Much less than $400 and close to the same spunk. No need for Xbox in my collection because of that. Ps4 is a different story.

For the record, Nintendo needs to upgrade beyond the wii for serious gamers to come back. Very possible for the market to influence that for the next generation.

To be fair, most PS fans didn't have the brains to buy a 200 dollar system that had one of the most amazing first years ever in this business in terms of software. So, what do they know really? The Wii U certainly has the best exclusives of the next gen systems, hands down. That won't change at least until 2016. And with it comes access to the amazing exclusives of the Wii, since Nintendo actually took the time to add backwards compatibility of all software and peripherals when applicable. Xenoblade, Last Story and the current Wii U lineup is enough to merit purchase for any serious gamer (I mean, serious about playing great games, NOT a dope who only wants mature and 'artsy'), especially when considering the barren landscape of the PS4 and Xbox One. And before anyone cries about multiplats, why would that matter if you own multiple consoles?

You boys are all sorts of ignorant!

"Didn't have the brains to buy a $200 system..."

^Might as well have said, "Hey, I'm an a$$hole"

I haven't purchased any of the next gen consoles because none of them are worth owning quite yet, imo. Of course I would love to own every system imaginable, as a gamer fan first and Sony second. I didn't get a Wii or XBOX because it costs money to own every system. Of course I could if I wanted, but I'm most responsible to my family and spending our money wisely. How can I justify owning multiple systems while my wife has been on mat leave twice this past generation and I don't even have enough time to finish all the games I own on ONE system?

Do I feel like I'm missing out? Absolutely. I might never play Xenoblade Chronicles, for example, my most tragic loss. But I'm also missing out on some playstation games due to time! Sometimes, it's not about fanboysim, gents. Sometimes it's about priorities. Not all of us have the time to do it all. I do work, afterall, have kids, a house to keep up, volunteerism, and actual outdoor recreation. I only get a small window at the end of the day after everyone else has gone to sleep to game.

As for why Playstation over the others, well for me it's because the games found on Playstation are more enjoyable for me than what is offered on the other systems. I also appreciate the quality in variety. (XBOX's strengths are shooters, and I'm not a shooter fan, really. Wii has more things I'd be interested in, but still not as much variety, or in my opinion, quality as the Playstation.)

And before you start yammering on about what game your opinion states is better than anything upcoming, remember I just said I haven't purchased any of the next gen systems yet because there's no need to. And I won't until there's something I feel like I must have.

"Exactly this poll reeked of PS fanboys"

Not sure how you expect a playstation based website not to prefer the playstation brand.... Why must some people like you stoop to petty, baseless "fanboy" outcries just because people don't agree with your point of view? Why must people's enthusiasm for a particular brand bother you? What sort of life experiences cause that level of insecurity to rise in a person?

There are plenty of reasons to prefer a WiiU to PS, and there are plenty of reasons to prefer a PS to a WiiU. What makes the difference is your personal set of priorities and rationale. If you want more options at this exact moment, a WiiU makes perfect sense. It sure as hell better have more options, anyways, seeing as it's been out a whole year longer already. If you're a huge fan of things of games like LBP, Uncharted, or any multiplat franchise that's incapable of being played on WiiU you might prefer a PS4. And heck, maybe others are going on a gut feeling based on previous experiences and believe PS4 will accomplish greatness at some point. (It's hardly floundering now.)

Maybe the better question to answer before you start picking fights with people here for not agreeing with you, you should address the apparent "fanboyism" that is so rampant that the PS4 is outselling the competition by a wide margin. Maybe you should even wonder outloud to yourself why the PS4 has a few million on the WiiU despite the year head start.

Maybe, according to your logic and ignorance, you might consider labeling something as inanimate as a statistic as a fanboy, while you're at it.

It would make just as much sense, afterall.

Oh I don't know Underdog maybe I was expecting a little more open-mindedness from this community? Instead the contempt people have towards the WiiU, just because Nintendo hasn't killed their console department off and gone 3rd party. Even Ben wrote about the WiiU being the perfect companion to the PS4 on one of his articles. I don't know maybe I stopped being a PSFanboy since I started gaming on PC and realized that I have all the B/C I want without the need to have two consoles taking up space on my entertainment center, and don't even get me started on PSNow.

Maybe you should look intrinsically if you're hoping to find an increase in open-mindedness. You could use some yourself, apparently.

I game on PC as well, and I don't see how that point does anything other than to contradict your own points about what you find unfavorable about the console "fanboy" crowd.

As for PSNow, it's an optional service, so stop giving a crap about it. That's like bitching at Netflix for offering Netflix subscriptions. What -is- worth complaining about, is mandatory PS+ and XboxLIVE.

I'm honestly not all that surprised about the results. This is a PlayStation fansite after all, even though the editors here don't consider it to be a fansite. The fact remains; people that are highly devoted to the PlayStation brand frequently use this website on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis.

Considering the bias, it's only expected that the majority of PSXE users vote against the competition, just as they'll do with the current poll regarding the Xbox One. Still though, KidPresentable; what you stated is more or less your own personal opinion. You essentially called the majority of PSXE users immature and unknowledgable when it comes to gaming. Hell, you even went as far as to say that they don't have the brains to purchase (or to see the value in) the Wii U. Then you went ahead and insulted people that prefer 'artsy' games, or games that have mature story concepts.

And Underdog, you're no better. You tried to provide some level of constructive criticism, but ended up mixing your own opinions into your comment, voiding your otherwise valid argument.
You personally insulted KidPresentable for his opinion, while you yourself stated your own personal opinions, which are no more valid than the ones KidPresentable expressed.
You enjoy PlayStation platforms because of the exclusive games that you can't find anywhere else. That's a solid reason for supporting a brand, but it's just your own opinion. 'Fun' itself is an opinionated concept, as every individual has a different idea on what is and what isn't considered fun. (though, your reasoning behind not yet owning a next generation system is admirable)

As for your fanboy remark, you yourself appear to be a fan of the PlayStation brand.
"If you're a huge fan of things of games like LBP, Uncharted, or any multiplat franchise that's incapable of being played on WiiU you might prefer a PS4."
This statement of yours is inaccurate, as it claims that the Wii U is incapable of playing multiplatform releases. The Wii U is fully capable of running the latest Call of Duty and Battlefield releases, at least on a hardware level. It really just comes down to licensing rights and development incentives. Nintendo is showing little interest in supporting third parties, so third parties show little interest in developing stable ports for a system that is based off of an entirely different operating architecture than the PS4 and XOne.
Your statement implied that the Wii U was entirely incapable of running the latest third party video games, which is simply inaccurate.

"Maybe, according to your logic and ignorance, you might consider labeling something as inanimate as a statistic as a fanboy, while you're at it."
I'll go ahead and do just that, as one only uses statistics to prove an underlying point; I'm right, you're wrong.

"Maybe the better question to answer before you start picking fights with people here for not agreeing with you, you should address the apparent "fanboyism" that is so rampant that the PS4 is outselling the competition by a wide margin. Maybe you should even wonder outloud to yourself why the PS4 has a few million on the WiiU despite the year head start."

The success of a gaming platform, whether it be the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or Wii U, has absolutely nothing to do with the value of the platform itself, nor does stating sales have anything at all to do with the debate at hand. If anything, it makes you look like you are going out of your way to 'defend' the brand that you are most loyal to; claiming superior sales as some type of victory over the competition.

"As for PSNow, it's an optional service, so stop giving a crap about it. That's like bitching at Netflix for offering Netflix subscriptions."

Yes, PS Now is an optional service, but then again, so is Netflix. Heck, using the PS4 to play video games is also entirely optional. Unrealistic, but still optional.
I personally see no value in PS Now, especially not with the current pricing. Does that mean I'll "stop giving a crap" about it? No. It is a service that I wish to enjoy, but can't given the current pricing structure. I'm not going to complain about it, and rant up a storm simply because I believe the service adds no value to my gaming lifestyle. I will however voice my opinion, which is all that I can really do.

And, holy crap this comment is freaking long! Once I start typing, I can't seem to stop. So, apologies and whatnot. Also, sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes. I didn't do much proof reading. :p

The Wii U, moreso than the PS4, is actually my more desired console right now.

The game industry has has a penchant for underestimating the Big N. Let's not count them out just yet.

About the only thing that appeals to me on a ninty console is Bayonetta 2, other than that the brand or games have never appealed to me, give me an Xbox One any day.

So in a nutshell, Xbox One with the PS4 for me.
